    Great to know Dr. Tam!
I have also left the academe in the previous year after teaching for 5 years. I would really admit that working in the academe was the most stressful and the most toxic I have been. The pressure of completing academic requirements, dealing with difficult colleagues and students, and not being able to pursue my passion had affected my mental health.
Last year, I made the decision to take the risk of leaving teaching in the academe, leaving my hometown and moving to teaching in nonformal education in an established nonprofit in another city.
I am glad to be able to live for myself, balance my professional life and personal life, and pursue my passion for nonformal teaching and charity work.
Your channel has been a great help for me. Looking forward to your future content!

Great to hear from you again Kenneth -- I hope you've been well! Any specific challenges you're facing in your new role?

@@DrJonTam Hi again Dr. Tam! Right now, the biggest challenges I am facing are homesickness, as I now live very far from my hometown, and cashflow issues, as my expenses have shot way up in the past months due to the high inflation here in the Philippines. These are still manageable, though.

@@KennethPorio sorry to hear that… yes, it’s always difficult to leave your home town. I’m now in Seattle and missing Toronto so I understand how the lack of friends and family makes it super tough…. And yeah, inflation is hitting everyone hard. Hang in there - you got this! 💪

Considering making the jump too. Any regrets or things you miss about academia?

I miss working with the students. And also the freedom to talk a lot about topics you’re passionate about (but even that gets old after teaching the same lectures several years in a row). Another thing I miss is writing about your favorite socioscientific topics, but games are more exciting for me. What’s stopping you from making the jump?

jesus...you want to stop being a career coach??? please re-think about it... I find that your career coaching contents are one of the best on TH-cam.... I'm in the middle of my plan of switching career and your contents give so much clarity to me... again please re-think about it...
