- Here is a video of me playing my Gibson Les Paul '58 Historic with its new OX4 pickups! I am playing through a Marshall 1959SLP Plexi head CRANKED!! It was so loud we had to keep the door closed!!

This vid convinced me - put a set of OX4s in my '58 Historic Reissue. I'm exceptionally pleased with the result - very much like this video. I've been through all of the usual suspect PAF-style humbuckers.

@@TheBenScarr I was just flicking through the website. Classy AF. A lot of good press out there, but they still seem relatively unknown compared to the likes of Bare Knuckle? I will see how I get on with the new hardware and Jumbos before I make any other upgrade decisions.

Damn! Thanks for bringing back my GAS for a plexi marshall, just when I thought I had got over it. I also have OX4 in a couple guitars, great pickups!!
Well I've had my Ox4s for about a month now. These are incredible pickups. I have had many many humbuckers in my time. These are probably in the top 2 of any I have owned.

+morbidalex666 haha glad you like it man! The plexi's channels were jumpered with volume on each at about 8, everything else on 10 except the bass which was on zero and presence on 3! These older marshall sound best with everything maxed!

They are also quite flexible despite what people say.
I've built a clone of the 1959 circuit (100w non master) and put a PPIMV in the back so I can play without going deaf.

What magnets and windings are these? Want that tone! But as they say tone is on the fingers! This is a prime example.
I reckon they're low wind with A4 magnets. Just ordered a set myself.

Jeremy Hendricks thank you for the kind words Jer 😊 Both sets of pickups are fantastic but to my ears the alnico 2 in the bridge just takes the edge of the high end and has a slightly different mid range punch. The A2/A4 set is in my R9 and that’s the best LP I’ve ever played! I’ll have to get a video of that up here...
I agree with regards the A2 vs A4 for the bridge. Although fine and not harsh, the mids and top end have a more tapered and smoother feel and tames the bridge a tad with the A2. A4 or 5 for the neck is a fine way to bring more top end to the potentially wooly sounding neck puppy.
Vintage tone, I would like to know whick pickup is better? OX4 or lollar imperials?
肖晓飞 OX4 all the way. Lollar, DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan...all of them are no match for the OX’s if you’re going for PAF tone.
Hey there, great tones. I have a '07 R7 goldtop with a one piece Honduras mahogany and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and i am looking for a more rocking tone and not so much a blues tone. Would you suggest the OX4 4 magnet or 5 magnet? And what would you suggest for the bridge? I play hard rock 70's-80's. Thanks

Dagger 323 yessss, I like them a lot! Nice crispy treble, good punch... I changed my Throbaks for them. Now I am trying to find the perfect pots and caps for them.
MW47742 awesome. I recently discovered the CreamTone wiring harness. They use vintage bumble bee capacitors because apparently they really improve the sound and don’t react the way modern ones do. It’s a steeper price but for me it was worth it, and I noticed the difference immediately. They’re nice and bright and the roll off is phenomenal!

What's the model number / serial of the pickups Ben? I'm seriously considering ditching my SD Antiquities for a set of these but there's so many different types of OX's :/ These sound great and just what I want....I think hahaha :)
Gaz Hunter these are the alnico 4 low winds in this Les Paul. Just got a new set for my '59 alnico 4 in the neck with a 2 in the bridge they sound amazing! Mark makes killer pickups mate you can't go wrong with a set!

Ollonskog thanks man! They sound great in a ES335 plus Mark makes a 60’s set which are designed after old early 60’s PAF’s.
