Blindfold overdrive pedal challenge with Carsten Stepanowicz at

- Today I’m joined by my trusting friend - and all-round awesome guitar guy - Carsten Stepanowicz at 42 Gear Street Five for a blindfold overdrive pedal challenge featuring five of the very best J. Rockett Audio Designs drives: the Archer, the .45 Caliber, the El Hombre, the Dude, and the Hot Rubber Monkey!
Get the Archer here: thmn.to/thoprod/351954?offid=...
.45 Caliber: thmn.to/thoprod/381430?offid=...
El Hombre: thmn.to/thoprod/542545?offid=...
The Dude V2: thmn.to/thoprod/462813?offid=...
HRM/Hot Rubber Monkey: thmn.to/thoprod/571558?offid=...
Now, Carsten is very much a high-gain player, and he tends to get his grit from his amp itself (currently a Peavey 6505)… so he’s never really been much of a pedals guy. He also has no clue about J. Rockett - and these are two things I definitely wanted to change!
J. Rockett makes some fantastic drives, and some, like the Klon Centaur-esque Archer, have become iconic for their tonal excellence. While the Archer is famous for its transparent overdrive goodness, the .45 Caliber is basically Malcolm Young of AC/DC’s tone in a box - it’s a wonderful take on the Marshall Plexi/MIAB thing. The El Hombre, meanwhile, is a thick, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top-inspired overdrive, while The Dude and the HRM are Dumble style dirtboxes, with the Hot Rubber Monkey being one of the late, great Howard Dumble’s legendary amp mods.
So, for this video we got a blindfold on Carsten, handed him some choice guitars (with humbuckers, P90s and single coil pickups all covered!), and I tweak the pedals as he plays and tried to find the best J. Rockett drive for him. I have to admit, I was extremely surprised by the one he chose as his favorite!
Let us know which of the pedals you thought sounded best in the comments!

Excellent! Thank you for sharing, just what I needed.... ^^
Thanks for watching, and glad you enjoyed it! This was a fun video to shoot, and I have a feeling at least a couple of these pedals will find their way into my rig at some point in the future ;)
@@RichWordsMusic Hehehe.... Honestly, faster than a Rockett speeding like a bullet, the .45 Caliber and the Silver Archer sure as hell found their way on my pedal board : D
@@feuersturmomega5000 Ha ha, these are the two that may or may not be rocketing towards my home soon as well! ;) Very excited.
Great sounding pedals! I have to try out these with my baritone.... 🤘
Oh yes, I think this would be a great match! I was hoping to find some baritones to try at 42 Gear Street, but no luck (well, not for the kind of baritones I was after!). I am quite new to J. Rockett and I loved these pedals... hopefully I can get some more in for dedicated videos soon!
Carsten is the man ❤Awesome Video 😮
Habibi! 🫶🥳
@@schorschharrison 😍🙏
He certainly is!
16:15 was a bit too wet for my taste but the lips felt silky, which I liked. That pedal challenge was fun! 🤘❤
This comment is itself is a great review of Henning's kiss game! I found me to be light and airy, as if the volume was rolled down to about 4 ;)
@@RichWordsMusic 😂🙌
👍🏻👍🏻
Many thanks for watching as ever!
Too many bees in the can.
There were a lot of bees around that summer, I remember ;)
Metal police sez play the P90s!
Ha ha, you're right! I will force Carsten to do that more next time ;)
