QX is caused by Marteilia sydneyi, a parasite. It was unknown when the disease was first observed nearly a century ago. There is a summary of information on M. sydneyi here www.agriculture.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/infection-marteilia-sydneyi.pdf but there is a large body of work on it. Many aspects of its biology are unknown. The parasite occurs wherever there are Sydney rock oysters, but it only causes disease in some places, typically where there is human-caused environmental change and water quality impacts.
Thanks fellow Aussies for doing your part to try and help
Cool
QX is unknown? Who is investigating it?

Just like all seafood, soon it will be too expensive for the average person to purchase 😢
