Brilliant. It's a testament to the effort you put into your channel, that more than 8 years later, people like me are still finding your older videos really clear and useful. Thanks very much! 👍
Followed this tips in this video today. Got away with just replacing the piston in the syphon. Total cost £1.20. Sorted! Mine is not a close-coupled toilet, so didn't have to remove the cistern which made it easier, as mentioned in the video. A tip I picked up is that you can now buy syphons which are in two pieces which means you can repair or replace just the moving bits without disturbing the pipework or the cistern. Why they weren't all designed like this in the first place is a mystery.
I stumbled across this video while watching home improvement videos. In the US our toilets use a flapper with a chain hooked to the flush handle. Those syphon toilets you guys have look way better than ours. The US now requires low flow toilets, and they clog very easy. My fill valve broke in my toilet, so I bought a kit and replaced everything. The kit's overflow tube was taller than my original so I just set the fill valve higher. Now the flush is more powerful and it hasn't clogged up since.
This is such a great video, thank you! I've just changed the syphon in my toilet, followed your superb advice and completed the job with no problems or leaks. Awesome! You have a real talent in explaining and demonstrating using high quality video and sound which makes tackling plumbing jobs so much simpler and safer. Thanks again
I've had issues with the flush on my toilet for a while. got a plumber to come and take a look and of course it worked fine that day. After a few days of taking a few times to flush, it finally packed in altogether on the bank holiday weekend. This video was an absolute lifesaver for me. Without it I would have had to wait several days for a plumber and find someone to wait for them whilst I was at work. Having watched the video several times, I made a list f everything I might need, then went on the Bank holiday Monday to buy it all. Had a lot of difficulty getting the cistern off the wall because of rusted butterfly nuts and so had to cut them off. following the video though, everything else was fairly straightforward, even for someone like me who does as little DIY as possible. Great tip on the syphons that don't need removing in future to replace the membrane. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for a very helpful video !! Was tiling the bathroom floor and decided to remove the toilet (I had ZERO plumbing experience) Your vids really got me out of a hole and even had me talking like i knew what i was doing :D
I watched this video a few days before replacing the syphon, the “ home maintenance technician “ that my niece pays an insurance premium for said it was a difficult job, the cistern would probably crack and a new cistern and replacement tiling would be required!, and wouldn’t touch it I bought a new syphon and close coupling kit for £15, the old wing nuts and bolts snapped off when I used an adjustable for leverage so I was fortunate because I don’t have a small grinder, after that everything was comparatively straight forward, many thanks for a very informative video
Just want to say thank you so much for this video. Today I did my first Syphon repair many many thanks for your guidance in this video. Brilliantly done video.
Cheers Mate. I have just successfully changed the syphon in my loo, and after a couple of attempts at getting the tightness correct underneath the syphon. All is working perfectly. Thanks Again. You saved me money. Total Cost was 19 euros, and an hour and 15 minutes of my time.
I've been putting this syphon replacement, off, on our close coupled toilet for ages due to the thought of it being complicated and there's water involved! But after watching your video, it was a breeze! I did have to have 2 goes at it because I had a very slight leak on the first go but i put a little bit of silicone under the syphon seal second time round and no leaks! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge 👊
This worked great for me! I had got a few quotes from plumbers that were way too expensive; so found your video on TH-cam, and decided to do it myself and saved myself a small fortune in the meantime! Cheers fella! ;)
Thank you for this thorough video!! I watched it this afternoon and tonight have accomplished the task. Couldn't have done it without your help! Thank you!
Very good, clear instructions, easy to follow. I now feel confident to fix my non flushing cistern. I see you have one dislike, I can only assume that must be from another plumber. You know, the type of plumber that likes to draw breath through his teeth before telling you it ain't going to be cheap. Well done, great video.
superb video - even 11 years after you made this video it helped me have the confidence to do replace my own syphon with minimal fuss. you saved me a fortune for a plumber visit. all in all, £30 bucks to get a working toiley again. Well done !
You made this video in 2011 and it's a valid today (Christmas eve) as when it was made. 24/12/2016 and my toilet cistern breaks - I have a family what do I do!! Well I watched your video. I dropped down to screw fix, who had all the bits you showed - now I have a fixed toilet for Christmas day ---- THANK YOU :) Never would have done this if it was not for your video :)
I'm glad the video helped Ian ;-) The first time I ever replaced a syphon was at a similar time of year (I think it was Christmas eve) in about 2005. Thanks for the comment
It's people like Ultimate Handyman taking the time to share their knowledge and experience that keeps me coming back to TH-cam to learn more and more. I'm typing this with the cistern on the floor and parts around it. Although I've done this before, I find there's always something to learn, like why not to use Silicon, and paying attention to good clean up before assembling things back together. The £18 device looks well worth the money to save the hassle and time it takes to remove the cistern, clean it all up, and install it again for the sake of a small plastic disc.
A first class, well presented, no nonsense, accurate and straightforward video tutorial. Helped me every step of the way on a like for like replacement. And no "mate" this no "hey guys" that. No unnecessary awkward banter. One of the best I have seen. Thank you.
Great for you! Not many people can do that. This is a joke.....Suppose your husband is the jealous, not trusting type..he might not believe you did this, and think you might be having an affair with a plumber or someone with that skills.....LOL. Great Job keep it up.
Very useful video - saved me from calling out a plumber! A lot of useful tips you don't get with standard instructions or DiY books - eg how to get the water out of the cistern if the toilet won't flush at all, without getting water everywhere. Realised my problem was that the doughnut washer wasn't on properly (one set of instructions told you to put it in the pan rather than on the outlet from the siphon). Once I'd pushed it fully onto the outlet pipe, no problem.
Imagine my surprise when I realised that - that toilet is EXACTLY the same as mine LOL . . . . . . But I must admit after seeing the reason you've gone for the more expensive flusher unit you've convinced me that's the one to buy this morning before I crack on !
Thanks fella. I am essentially useless at DIY and with this video I have just replaced the Siphon in about 45 mins - only took that long cos I kept coming back to your video to check stuff. Absolutely spot on. Cheers.
Thank you so much for that video! It told me almost everything I needed to know. I didn't know beforehand that I would need a new close-coupling kit. I certainly needed that! The membrane on the original siphon had indeed broken. I got a £20 replacement from Screwfix and installed that. Now I have dual flush (good for me, being on a water meter) and also an internal overflow (the external overflow is still there, of course, but it won't be causing harm to my building if something happens). The new one is, like yours, far easier to replace than the old type if there is a problem in the future.
Excellent video. 1. Clarity of explanation: A 2. Accounting for the unexpected: A 3. Dealing with problems: A 4. Comprehensive instructions:A I was all set for a long job on mine. But after watching this video I realised I had a 3 part, that just disconnects and lifts right out. Nice. Great video. P.S: My membrane was ripped. It is a sad fact that they don't make it easy just to replace the sheet of plastic, environmentally irresponsible.
I needed a new syphon for our toilet in our static caravan and after watching this video i was able to visit the local plumber and return with everything i needed and instal it with no problems what so ever, great video.
My toilet stopped flushing and your video helped me both identify the problem and fix it myself with a new one from Screwfix. I needed to change only the blue part because luckily I was replacing an old Dudley Turbo 88R syphon so was able to leave the column part in place. I am female and 70 years old. Your video was instructive and reassuring. Thank you!
Thank you for saving me the cost of a plumber ! I have now successfully fitted a Dudley 88 in place of the cheap piece of kit fitted by the builders 12 years ago. Frankly I'm surprised the diaphragm lasted that long, but I'm not surprised the builders didn't fit a descent syphon in the first place. Thanks for an excellent and very helpful step-by-step approach .....fortunately I didn't have to angle-grind the bolts off, but I did take your advice to fit a new coupling kit as well to be on the safe side. Thanks again.
Ultimate Handyman In your expert opinion, would this help solve having to press the handle down hard and fast every time to activate the flush? Due to weak diaphragm?
Top man for putting this video up. I'd done three quarters of the job but got stuck on which way up to fit the doughnut washer before I found this video. Good advice telling people to buy a replacement close coupling kit as well. If I'd found this video before, I would have saved myself another trip to the diy store. My downstais toilet is now working after 6 months ! Thanks very much !
This helped me after more than a decade! My toilet had coupling bolts that went through the cistern, and my siphon was a button type, but this gave me the confidence to tackle the job. Thanks Mr Ultimate Handyman!
Thanks. I had done this job once before in another toilet and had to get a plumber in eventually as I couldn't t stop the inlet from leaking. This time I bought a Dudley Duo, on the advice of the helpful plumbers merchants (before viewing this clip) and managed to fit it perfectly this time with confidence after watching this very helpful demonstration. I even refitted the rusty close coupling kit I had removed as I hadn't bought one to replace it, though I did use LS-X jointing compound just to be on the safe side.
A very in depth and clear video that made it so easy to replace the syphon... And it saved me £70 to get it repaired... Thank you so much for posting this video.
I couldn’t leave TH-cam without complimenting your video. Very thorough and meticulous step by step instructions. I actually came here looking for guidance on how to change inlet flow system but ended up watching how to change syphon system and watched your video till the end as it was not only entertaining but educational too. Thanks for taking your time to make a such a great tutorial video. You now have another subscriber. Cheers!
I realise now it IS possible to remove rusted wingnuts and bolts without cracking the cistern. Two plumbers have doubted it could be done. I've never used an angle grinder before but tempted to buy (or borrow) a cordless one and repair my occasional leaking cistern. I made the mistake a number of years not using a new donut-washer when I replaced the flusher. Which later resulted in rusting bolts. Thank you so much for such a well presented video.
Coming up to Christmas 11 years on from your video and I've got exactly the same problem. 20 years worth of rust, so I took your suggestion of the angle grinder and it worked a treat. Thanks for this mate, you've saved my bacon and I owe you a pint! I very much doubt it, but if you ever need any help with something chemistry-related, drop me a line.
How do you tell what the capacity of the cistern is, 7l or 9l When I visit my family in Australia, they have normal light switches and sockets in their bathrooms and I have not heard of any accidents, so you can grind away with a mains operated angle grinder until your hearts content in Aussie!! Thanks for the video, it was very well explained with attention to detail
+icespeckledhens Sometimes it says in the cistern, but if not you can measure it when emptying it with a jug etc. They also use 230v in most of Europe and you often see light switches and sockets in bathrooms abroad, but I guess you can never be too careful as there are some really stupid people out there that might try and use the angle grinder when taking a bath LOL. Thanks for the comment ;-)
I too have a Dudley Turbo, which I fitted years ago. For some months it has been misbehaving, and the whole flush unit swung up as it flushed. I planned to replace the whole thing, and watched this video to remind myself what I did last time - and right at the end, as you reassembled it, you said "that needs to clip in at the bottom first - EUREKA! 2 minutes with hands in cold water and problem fixed! Thanks 👌
Thank you so much for taking the time to upload this video, I've just replaced a broken diaphragm with the one in this video. I followed the instructions as directed and I'm delighted to say everything went well. Anyone watching this should know that if I can do this diy job successfully, then anyone can. Just follow what this guys instructs. Many many thanks.
Hiya pal! Toilet wouldn't flush properly for a few days now. I watched this video last night and today i've carried out the repair. The membrane had gone- got a replacement and then put it all back together without a problem. I didn't need a coupling kit and the syphon was ok to re-use! £7.20 + vat for membrane, silicone and silicone gun. Many thanks! Top Man! :-))
about 6 months ago I was shocked to get a bill from a plumber for £450 (he also had to be called back 3 times as hadnt actually sorted the problem)! I was there when he did the work and I would say in total he was at the house for about 2 hours. He tried to pass the cost off on parts but the bits listed I could by for about £30. Fast forward 6 months and toilet stops flushing.....Im not getting a plumber this time I thought! With the help of this video I managed to do it all myself for a total cost of £22. So annoying as replacing the siphon was actually more involved then the jobs I paid the rip off plumber for! Thanks so much for these videos. Really great content
Very detailed with simple easy to follow instructions. I watched it twice and replace with Dudley turbo height adjustable system from B&Q for £23.00, coupling kit was £3.97 and a new washer instead of using the old one which cost £2.04. Total cost was £29.01 exactly and 2 and half hours of time. I had to cut the bolts off from old one as well and good cleaning took time. Just to say thank you for the video and could not have done without it since I didn't have a clue about this before.
me and my son just fitted a new dudley system after watching this video, i am not a DIY person at all and this was a great help. we followed your instructions and got it done. a big thankyou for the video, saved a fortune on plumber bills.
Sorry about that, my mistake, thanks for the advice, its very gratefully appreciated. I am now considering my next DIY tasks, I have a leaking radiator valve downstairs, and in the airing cupboard, and also a shower that hasn't worked for a while, and I wonder if it is just a simple electrical problem, anyway, I have started looking through your videos, off now to continue watching/browsing. Thanks again.
This may be an old vid but its still helping people, just replaced a syphon in a close coupled toilet, after watching this made the job easy. Thank you
Hi there. Many thanks for taking the time and effort to make and share this video. I've managed to fix our toilet without a plumber and was well prepared for the task before I started. The builder of our house left us with a legacy of shoddy plumbing work and through learning how to put right the wrongs myself I've managed to save some money and gain new skills.
11 years later and this is the exact information needed. Thankyou. Guess which toilet system we have? Yes, the hardest one. Time to break out the tools.
Watched this on Friday night, purchased a new siphon & coupling kiting Saturday, stripped and repaired our toilet. Brilliant video, easy to follow, perfectly explained. I feel like a DIY God now 😄
Changed our faulty syphon today after seeing your tutorial. Perfect instruction. I was that confident i even changed the bottom fed inlet after i stripped the thread!!!! Thanks for putting this up, very grateful.
Stephen Wood You are welcome. Often jobs don't go smoothly but you never find out until you start the job. I tried to cover most things that could go wrong. Thanks for the comment ;-)
Amazing video tutorial... you sir are a star! Plumber wanted £120 to replace our syphon... I followed your video steps and done it myself without any problems (thank god).. Cannot thank you enough for your efforts in producing this video...
Quite simply brilliant video. I'm useless diy er but managers this in 25 mins this morning. Now I need to do a second toilet. Thanks very much, saved a fortune I reckon.
Thank you so much for putting 'How to replace a coupled toilet syphon Dudley Turbo' online! You have given lots of detail and the step by step instructions were brill .
Thank you so much for this instruction video. I have just replaced a broken syphon with the Dudley 88 on my closed coupled toilet. Worked a treat. One thing I did do, before I removed the metal bracket on the underside of the water tank, I used a Sharpie to mark the outline of the old bracket, so made positioning the replacement easier. I did measure the position as well, just to be sure. Again, thank you so much for this instruction video.
OMG!! I have just returned from B&Q with a new syphon and have taken the old one out and replaced it.!! also added a push button and removed the handle so is now a dual flush. I would not have dreamed of doing this until i saw your video, so i definitely owe you a beer, or have two and use my loo ... great
I'm not a plumber but as another handyman (a few miles north of you) I've done loads of these but am using drop valves nowadays rather than syphons (Fluidmaster Pro seems to be one of the best). I love this demo because it shows all of the common snags. My usual disaster is that when I flush a toilet for the first time the doughnut washer is too small to make a proper seal and the water pi**es out all over the floor. Everything has to come back out again and we're back to square two. Deep joy!
Fluid master seem to make some decent stuff. Jobs like this can be a real nightmare, as there are so many things that can go wrong! Thanks for the comment 👍
It was good to see a genuine repair job, complete with the problems of dealing with rusted nuts and showing the accumulated grime. It made a pleasant change from seeing people easily disassembling shiny, brand new kit. I'm certain that without your video, I would have taken much longer, spent a good deal more and ended up either injuring myself or breaking some porcelain. Cheers.
The very best video on here for this type of repair/replacement. Thank you for saving me a fortune having to call a plumber. I followed your instructions to the letter using a good quality syphon - and it’s perfect now. Thank you again👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi, I am SO pleased that when you decided to make this video, you made it from a realistic perspective not using a brand new toilet in a fake scenario. I had the same issue with the wing nuts and had to reach for the angle grinder. Thanks very much for this, I really appreciate your efforts.
@@ultimatehandyman Job is done, no leaks, no mess (well, not enough to make the wife kick off) and no expensive plumbers bill. I definitely owe you a [virtual] beer or two :)
Thanks for the detailed video Chez! - Did the job yesterday, which was a bit of a swine - without your video I wouldn't have attempted the job. Leaks on re-assembly was the real PITA! - Late night trip to B&Q to get sanitary grade sealant and a few attempts finally worked....Cheers!
+1954BJohn You are welcome John ;-) I know a few people now that have followed this video and done a job they would not have normally attempted. Glad you got it sorted in the end ;-)
Thank you so much for making this video. I have just successfully replaced the syphon on my own close-coupled cistern by following your guidance. You’re a hero!
What a superb video. Just replaced my syphon following your guide on my laptop as I went and it all went smoothly, just a minor leak which I spotted quickly and rectified. Many thanks for your help, I reckon it's saved me at least fifty quid! Now for a bath and a couple of beers. Cheers!
Thank you! Excellent video. I have a compact cistern so fitted the smaller Dudley 'Turbo Edge' (adjustable height, flush volume and still does dual-flush). Old one (Freeflo) had been in 16 years before diaphragm failed, so cistern had to come off the wall. Took the opportunity to fit new flush plate, doughnut and full seal kit from Ideal Standard for Quiet flow input valve. I now shouldn't have to remove it for a very long time and replacement of Dudley Edge syphon diaphragm in future will be simple. Also fitted a quarter-turn isolation valve so I'm not fumbling for the slot with a flat screwdriver. I could now have the cistern off the wall faster than a McLaren pitstop, but I don't need to, having an easily-serviced Turbo Edge. Many thanks also to John at Wolseley Plumbing, New York Way, North Tyneside industrial Estate.
Fantsatic posting. Thank you! The job took me only about half an hour because of the clarity of your video. Being a typical Yorkshire man, I stripped the syphon down and made a replacement diaphragm from an old camelback (cycling accessory) I had in the garage. Therefore, the job cost me nothing! A great help - many thanks.
I followed this to the letter to replace the syphon diaphragm and it was so easy! I have kept a strip of kitchen roll underneath the toilet just to make sure that there are no leaks but after 5 days it seems fine. Thanks ultimatehandyman, I am going to change a washer on the basin tap next weekend.
Excellent video. Perfectly explained. Amazing that this video is 12 years old and my brand new toilet is installed in exactly the same way. Funny how some things don’t change. Your instructions helped me a lot. Thanks again 👌😎
I had to replace the syphon, nearly bought a full new one, however, after watching this video I realised I only needed the one part without dismantling from the wall. Absolutely great info and thanks for sharing. PERFECT!!
Thanks my man! I've been messing with my toilet for days... but now I'm almost done! The water inlet's hissing and leaking now, the old parts weren't Dudley Turbo parts! And whoever installed it all previously was a full rhinestone cowboy!
i live in the U.S. and watch your videos mainly for entertainment even though most of what you post will probably not help me much here but I have gotten a lot of great tips from you. I never thought just how different american toilets can be from U.K. toilets. Our toilets have not changed much in a long time, nearly all of the guts in american toilets are universal, only thing that could be different would be the size of the flapper, which is what releases all the water into the bowl, but even then there are only two sizes and its easy to tell them apart. There are a couple of different styles of toilets but most (as in about 90 percent) are the same, white porcelain, with a 2 or 3 inch flapper (3 inch being post 2005 and 2 being pre 2005) and a single fill valve. Great videos though!
What a star. I've got a toilet exactly like that and I've had to change the diaphragm twice in the last eight years and it was a horrible job each time. That two-part syphon is a revelation and I'll be getting one. Thanks!
brilliant step by step guide, it gave me the confidence to have a go replacing my ancient syphon which was misbehaving for the past few months. some great tips in there and I got the whole job done in just over an hour (longest job was removing the fittings and fixtures which had been there for about 30 years), thank you so much for this as it has improved my health immensley (mainly cured earache from the wife!! LOL).
I can't afford a plumber but i could fix this problem thanks to your great video. I have just changed syphon and inlet valve. My wing nut screws were SO rusty, 24hrs with penetrating oil on and they just fell to into little rust flakes. At first i could not move them at all! Thank you again.
Thanks, toilet wouldn't flush and I didn't have a clue. Watched your video and thought I would give it a try. All the parts cost me £13 and about one hour later a perfectly working toilet. Thanks a lot, great video and easy to follow.
Thanks so much for this, sir! Got the assembly done in about 30min, but at the “checking for leaks” stage, the inlet seal failed so I had to end up getting a whole new inlet pipe and washer for the connection... water everywhere 😩 Got it fixed 100% in the end, and you gave me the confidence to complete the job, so appreciate this video SO MUCH!! Wishing you all the very best!! 👍🏼😃
Thank you!!! You saved me the cost of a plumber. Replaced the siphon, tried to use the old coupler - FAIL! Got a new coupler kit, instructions on the bag were absolute rubbish. Watched your video, toilet now flushing and not leaking at all Cheers!
Oh wow, you saved me hours of time, as I hadn't realised I had a two part syphon. Really glad I watched the video as otherwise I would have taken it all off the wall. Still love the explanations in your videos.
Hiya mate, I'd like to thank you for this great video you have made. I have never looked under a toilet cistern until this video and for the first time ever I was able to take apart the whole toilet system to replace the syphon and get my toilet working again. Thanks buddy, full credit goes out to you!
Thanks a bundle ~ I have changed the flush Syphon and the intakes on several toilets in the past, but never a Coupled Toilet ~ just looking at the set up made me pause (for a long time ~ then I found your Video ~ Outstanding ~ even got hold of a "Dudley Duoflush (about £20 in 2013) Split Syphon" so that next time the diaphragm gives up I don't have to take everything apart ... I am now sitting here waiting to check for any leakage (15 min & no signs) Once again ~ Thank you big time
Many many thanks - I got as far as the part where you explain that some siphons can be split apart and realized that all that was wrong with mins is that the retaining pin had come out. So job done in about 3 seconds. Wish I could buy you a pint!
You are a Leg End!!!! I braved it using your video saved me a wedge calling someone to do it. Couldn't find the same siphon as yours but still does the trick!! Have a great Christmas & NewYear!!
The video was posted 12 years ago and I found it very useful in 2023, thank you - it was very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Brilliant. It's a testament to the effort you put into your channel, that more than 8 years later, people like me are still finding your older videos really clear and useful. Thanks very much! 👍

Just found this now and still doing the same job 👍🏻. Thanks for the great video, helped me right out
Followed this tips in this video today.

Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Fabulous !! I have just repaired the toilet whilst my husbands away on business as a surprise !!
Great for you! Not many people can do that. This is a joke.....Suppose your husband is the jealous, not trusting type..he might not believe you did this, and think you might be having an affair with a plumber or someone with that skills.....LOL. Great Job keep it up.
Winston Clifford ahahahaha I thought the same ,
But fair play to fixing the toilet 😉
Cheers.
I'm glad the video helped ;-)
Thanks for the comment
Thank you so much for that video! It told me almost everything I needed to know. I didn't know beforehand that I would need a new close-coupling kit. I certainly needed that!
The membrane on the original siphon had indeed broken. I got a £20 replacement from Screwfix and installed that. Now I have dual flush (good for me, being on a water meter) and also an internal overflow (the external overflow is still there, of course, but it won't be causing harm to my building if something happens). The new one is, like yours, far easier to replace than the old type if there is a problem in the future.
Glad the video helped

I was all set for a long job on mine. But after watching this video I realised I had a 3 part, that just disconnects and lifts right out. Nice.
Great video.
P.S: My membrane was ripped. It is a sad fact that they don't make it easy just to replace the sheet of plastic, environmentally irresponsible.
Thanks so much, I'm 15 and my dad wanted me to fix ours, this video made it pretty simple
You are welcome

I needed a new syphon for our toilet in our static caravan and after watching this video i was able to visit the local plumber and return with everything i needed and instal it with no problems what so ever, great video.
I'm glad the video helped ;-)

I'm pretty proud of the young man, the lad did a bang up job...
Thank you!
I'm glad the video helped
Thanks for the comment 👍
well explained thanks, very helpful. I was going to attempt this myself but having seen the possible problem areas I think I'll call in a plumber.

Very clear vid, thanks for helping us all save money pal, all the best

Thanks for the comment
Ultimate Handyman In your expert opinion, would this help solve having to press the handle down hard and fast every time to activate the flush? Due to weak diaphragm?
Yes, or you can remove the existing diaphragm and fit a new one. It's often better to just get a new syphon though!
Ultimate Handyman Appreciate that sir, I'll get the one in the vid
Top man for putting this video up. I'd done three quarters of the job but got stuck on which way up to fit the doughnut washer before I found this video. Good advice telling people to buy a replacement close coupling kit as well. If I'd found this video before, I would have saved myself another trip to the diy store.
My downstais toilet is now working after 6 months ! Thanks very much !
Just want to say thank you, it was very useful!
You are welcome.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
This helped me after more than a decade! My toilet had coupling bolts that went through the cistern, and my siphon was a button type, but this gave me the confidence to tackle the job. Thanks Mr Ultimate Handyman!
I'm glad the video helped

@@ultimatehandyman The wife is very happy she doesn't have to do downstairs in the middle of the night!
Excellent - felt like a pro when I replaced mine, really useful. Thanks for posting this.
I'm glad you sorted it ;-)

Thanks for the video , i'm feeling brave enough to tackle the toilet on my own!
A very in depth and clear video that made it so easy to replace the syphon... And it saved me £70 to get it repaired... Thank you so much for posting this video.

good informative video fella.
ive actually learned something today:)
Cheers!
I’m glad you like the video

This is how to make an instructional video ! Thanks !

Yes, the Dudley Turbo 88 has an internal overflow. (They call it the spill over level)
Thanks Andrew, I'm glad the video helped.
I’ll bear that in mind, if I’m ever stuck with chemistry 👍
Thanks for the comment 👍
How do you tell what the capacity of the cistern is, 7l or 9l
When I visit my family in Australia, they have normal light switches and sockets in their bathrooms and I have not heard of any accidents, so you can grind away with a mains operated angle grinder until your hearts content in Aussie!!
Thanks for the video, it was very well explained with attention to detail
+icespeckledhens
Sometimes it says in the cistern, but if not you can measure it when emptying it with a jug etc.

Fantastic video, many thanks. Saved myself a few bob which is handy as I'm expecting the arrival of my first baby in 4 weeks time!
Hi, I am SO pleased that when you decided to make this video, you made it from a realistic perspective not using a brand new toilet in a fake scenario. I had the same issue with the wing nuts and had to reach for the angle grinder. Thanks very much for this, I really appreciate your efforts.
Glad it was helpful!

I know a few people now that have followed this video and done a job they would not have normally attempted. Glad you got it sorted in the end ;-)

What a superb video. Just replaced my syphon following your guide on my laptop as I went and it all went smoothly, just a minor leak which I spotted quickly and rectified. Many thanks for your help, I reckon it's saved me at least fifty quid! Now for a bath and a couple of beers. Cheers!
I'm glad the video helped, well done for doing it yourself ;-)

Thanks for the comment 👍
Fantsatic posting. Thank you! The job took me only about half an hour because of the clarity of your video.
Being a typical Yorkshire man, I stripped the syphon down and made a replacement diaphragm from an old camelback (cycling accessory) I had in the garage. Therefore, the job cost me nothing!
A great help - many thanks.
I'm glad the video helped ;-)

I followed this to the letter to replace the syphon diaphragm and it was so easy!
I have kept a strip of kitchen roll underneath the toilet just to make sure that there are no leaks but after 5 days it seems fine.
Thanks ultimatehandyman, I am going to change a washer on the basin tap next weekend.
Excellent video. Perfectly explained. Amazing that this video is 12 years old and my brand new toilet is installed in exactly the same way. Funny how some things don’t change. Your instructions helped me a lot. Thanks again 👌😎
Great to hear!

Thanks, I knew that they used flapper valves in the US, but have never seen one close up.
Thanks for the comment ;-)
What a star. I've got a toilet exactly like that and I've had to change the diaphragm twice in the last eight years and it was a horrible job each time. That two-part syphon is a revelation and I'll be getting one. Thanks!
Same from me fella. Watched your video and changed the flush mechanism myself rather than paying a plumber! Probably saved £30! Ideal. Thanks.

brilliant step by step guide, it gave me the confidence to have a go replacing my ancient syphon which was misbehaving for the past few months. some great tips in there and I got the whole job done in just over an hour (longest job was removing the fittings and fixtures which had been there for about 30 years), thank you so much for this as it has improved my health immensley (mainly cured earache from the wife!!
Well done for sorting it yourself ;-)

I am now sitting here waiting to check for any leakage (15 min & no signs)
Once again ~ Thank you big time
Many many thanks - I got as far as the part where you explain that some siphons can be split apart and realized that all that was wrong with mins is that the retaining pin had come out. So job done in about 3 seconds. Wish I could buy you a pint!
You are a Leg End!!!! I braved it using your video saved me a wedge calling someone to do it. Couldn't find the same siphon as yours but still does the trick!! Have a great Christmas & NewYear!!
