I had the Texas debut album called Southside on a Walkman tape (remember those ) and some USA friends heard I don't want a lover.. they loved every track literally fighting amongst themselves to who could keep the cassette tape. Texas have just toured the UK to mark 30 years and 90 million records sold. I have uploaded a few of the concerts and in particular there is a very special gig in Glasgow in the very same studios of the first Texas release.. and Sharleen Spiteri loosing her balance ending up on the floor. Everyone was laughing with her and not at her !

In the mid-1990s, Texas were at the height of their popularity. I think Sharleen was a big fan of Wong Kar-wai, and she wanted to pay homage to Chungking Express (and maybe Fallen Angels too). This song was also released in 1997, the year when Hong Kong was handed back over to China from Britain. Being from HK, this video feels like a time capsule - it captures that very special historic moment.
Sharlene is the most amazing woman, so talented and insightful,these lyrics helped me leave my son's father,with love. We became best friends then he cancelled us. On my mum's funeral. It changed me. My focus my children. Love trumps hate always but harder. Xx

I was 11 years old when I heard this album in Spain, I fell in love with Texas, when I was a few years older my love for Texas grew with each studio album, and I realized how incredibly cinephiles they are, in this video clip and in another one that They did many years later pay tribute to Wong Kar Wai, I wish Wong included them in one of his soundtracks because I don't think there is any group in the world in which his love for his cinema is so noticeable.

Sharleen is the spitting image of one of my girlfriends in the late 1990s. Or is that the other way round? Can't even remember her name now but I'll always remember the fantastic Texas led by the incredibly talented and beautiful Sharleen.

Think they happened in the UK when grunge was happening in the US totally the opposite in musical styles hence they didn’t catch on in the US.
