Nick, I have been in the I.T. field for nearly 40 years. Although I have never worked in the area of networking I have been some what involved with DNS and DHCP on the servers I supported as an administrator. I was never really able to grasp the big picture of who all this fits together until today. God Bless you Nick. You truly are the best hands down instructor I have ever heard. You truly have the gift of teaching and explaining complex areas and simplifying it to the masses. I wish I had known about your videos a long time ago. I am 61 and currently unemployed but have regained the confidence thanks to you go get back out there and competed with these youngsters lol.
Man are you going to be the one behind why I succeeded in Being an IT manager? Really Thanks for the effort you put in your videos they helped me a lot through out my project I'm doing :) Earned my subscription
A milion Thanks, I have got a very valuable information from you which solved my DHCP problem, you talked about Authorizing DHCP and no one have mentioned it before. Milion thanks
Authorize. please explain more details. cuz my client is not taking ip from DHCP. not sure why! Please note that client is not joined to the domain. dose this affect?
@17:50 before activating the scope, it would be advisable to ensure this Dhcp server is the only one in the specific vLan it is going to be turned on. Domestic routers very often have Dhcp turned on by default, and you don't want 2 dhcp servers unaware of each other on the same network
Hi i am Tejas Dubal, now i am learning MCSA topic, today i seen your DHCP configuration video. its very Help full for basic level understanding. i request to you please uplod the scop and super scop dhcp configuration and important.
can someone explain to me how this dhcp server role will be able to have multiple scopes for different networks, e.g accounting department would be in the 192.168.2.0 network, design would be in the .3.0 network. ???
i insataled server 2016 my dhcp didnt give me my domain/ server i initailly had an error 20079 installing the dhcp service not sure what i can do to fix this
Thanks Nick for the video, your explanation is easy to understand and follow. I'm stuck at one issue and need your help. I setup a home lab using VMware workstation player with two virtual DC and two clients. When i give static ip to the clients from the same subnet it all works fine but when i configure a DHCP server on DC1 and make the client to obtain ip automatically it gets the ip from my physical host subnet but not from the scope which i configured on DHCP. I spend two days trying to resolve this issue but no luck. your help will be highly appreciated.
When I assign my Server VM a static address it loses internet connection. The DNS and static IP are both the same IP. The networking is setup through NAT. It's a Windows 2016 server. Does the static IP of the Server have to be within the DHCP scope range?
Hi, one of our DhCP server went to unauthorized state automatically, how can we make it authorize, because I don't even see the unauthorized option in consle in IPV4
I watched this video for how to configure DHCP Server in windows server 2016, it was very nice because i understood all these thing and also i understood all word like you were speaking. Supporb Video. And you have any video of CISCO UCS Server B200 M2. How to Configure VMware ESXi 6.5 on UCS B200. If possible step by step than. please share on TH-cam.
I am creating VMs in Azure. I configured the DHCP and created the scope, created a ClientVM in the same subnet and virtual network as the DHCP server, but the client is not getting the IP address from the scope I gave. looks like its getting it from Azure default DHCP. How can I fix this? Thank you.
One question sir, i have a vpn server and assigned static ip for remote connection, does this mean that I will remove the static ip pooling of vpn server so that the remote connection will now have ip from dhcp server? Is this correct? Thank you for your response Sir...
I have win server 2012R2 running in vmware and trying to add a vm running win7 to this domain controller but it fails to connect. Any ideas why the win7 vm is not connecting?
You set a scope from 10.0.0.100 - 10.0.0.200. Is there any reason after that to set an exclusion from 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.99? I mean it's only useful if my scope is 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.200 and the exclusion is 10.0.0.1 - 10.0.0.99 right?
i don't know but i guess there is something wrong,a class c ip adress is at the range 192/223 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0..can you explain how you are using a class a ip with a class c subnet mask ?
Hi vinny, public IP will not be configured with DHCP in most occasions using Windows server DHCP. You can configure public IP DHCPs when you are an ISP for example but with different utilities.
i want to install a dhcp server on window server 2016 as a guest in window 10 . how can i assign the host an ip address using guest Window server running dhcp server
Great videos. I will like to know, one thing. Are you using a virtual machine for your windows server2016, or is it a bare metal installation. will configuring a DHCP affect your modem? I am using VMWare workStation inside windows10. I have an installed window Server 2016, and one of those server has Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP, I have already configured DNS and Active Directory I am just worried that If I configure DHCP it will mess up my LAN. Any advise on using the VM for this lab? I know Microsoft advises against using multiple service in one Machine. Thanks
Hi Christian, you will need to isolate that environment. Depends what you want to achieve, but if you use NAT for your servers they should be ok. If you do not need Internet access - host only.
Im probably jumping the gun on a few videos but how can i access the internet using this configuration i have lost the ability to now after configuring dhcp.
Great Nic you created such an excellent video and very well explained I would like to add you on my FB and LinkedIn Account if you please let me know your both ID so that will add you or send u request ....Great job brb

Ensure you input Domain Administrator (DA) Credentials in the DHCP Commit dialog box, instead of proceeding with logged in account

How dhcp able to give ip to another network subnet
Do we need to Turn off the DHCP in the router now?
yes because you have a dhcp server now.
i don't know but i guess there is something wrong,a class c ip adress is at the range 192/223 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0..can you explain how you are using a class a ip with a class c subnet mask ?
same doubt here also ..did you find the ans ?? i think its a miscellaneous case subnetting
As long as they are private IP address's which each class has you can use whatever subnet mask you want for your environment.
You have configured everything with a private IP, so when and where Public IP comes into play?
Hi vinny, public IP will not be configured with DHCP in most occasions using Windows server DHCP. You can configure public IP DHCPs when you are an ISP for example but with different utilities.
NLB Solutions Oh. I understand.
i want to install a dhcp server on window server 2016 as a guest in window 10 . how can i assign the host an ip address using guest Window server running dhcp server

A DHCP server doesn't reply with a broadcast message, it replies with a unicast message.
Thank you, Jan. I misspoke on that one.
No, DHCP server replies with a broadcast message, it notifies to another DHCP servers that "I assigned ip adress from my pool to this client"
Microsoft Acknowledges them all as broadcasts, unlike CCNA.
How do you do the right corner text?
Hi Meol, I use BGInfo you can find it here - docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/bginfo
