    I don't often comment on review videos because so many spend too much time on fluff, leave out too much vital info, or distract with extracurricular production enhancements. Your review was perfect--straightforward, thorough, and honest. KUDOS! You needed a bit better lighting/production, but a lot of people do, and I much prefer that the important stuff is well done. Again, informative and thoughtful video, man!

    whether or not i could fit my 6U Pittsburgh Modular case on the desk due to depth restrictions was preventing me from buying this, but after seeing your 9U next to it and really getting a good glimpse of how much workable depth there is on this desk sold me. Definitely ordering one soon. Thanks for the video!

      The desk is pretty awesome! I love it. I'd just make sure that the height of your case won't block any studio monitors you have. If the Eurorack case is slanted or flat it shouldn't be an issue, or if your monitors are raised. Just want to make sure you don't block the path between your ears and one monitor.

    I have an Argosy Halo on order (which I placed on hold) and was already getting cold feet due to the MDF they use. Was looking at JamRacks but that desk is $2000. I think I found my next desk and one that is made out of real wood for under a grand. Output is really coming through for people with this. Hopefully down the road they will start making larger standalone racks to hold more outboard gear.

    I had the same reaction, I had been looking for desks for a while and could find nothing that fit my space or had the features i was searching for. This ticked all the boxes. I might have preferred 4U rack space but 3U is fine.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah more rack space would have been lovely, I'd have loved 6U of space, but I guess that would make the desk way too tall and even more expensive.

    • @Iofflight78
      @Iofflight78 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewSouthworth yeah 6U would have thrown off the monitor level probably. I just have a few 2U synths from Roland and would have liked to have racked more than 3 of them.

      @@AndrewSouthworth man I started to put mine together today and ran into a massive issue with the Confirmat Screws stripping completely. 3 out of the 6 I used stripped. I had to buy a vice grip and back those out of one of the legs and the two for the privacy backing. I did damage to the wood in the leg in the process, had to sand it down and will buy more shellac tomorrow to repair it. I'm seriously wondering why they didn't use Robertson/square screw. I've got to try to find 3 more screws now and a different bit obviously. What a pita. What bit did you use one those screws if I might ask?
      Maybe also an impact driver instead of a drill? Anyway people should be aware of this issue during the build.

    • @MatthJenks
      @MatthJenks 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Iofflight78 Glad you mentioned that publically. I hope everyone who buys a Platform desk watches there official build video. You can't help notice that they mention how easy it is to strip the screws multiple times, which raises some concerns. A giant orange warning in the assembly instructions perhaps. Hopefully you got yours worked out.
      New buyers, check it: th-cam.com/video/Ll1cArnOtOQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @Iofflight78
      @Iofflight78 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MatthJenks What I did was find comparable screws and I used actual hard hand soap that was a bit softened on the screw. Saddle soap would work as well. My desk had a nice lavender smell for a few days. But it helped the screws go into the hard wood. I'd recommend that for anyone doing this build as it will help the screws go in more smoothly.

    I must have it defective keyboard tray because mine does not slide flush all the way under like yours does. In fact I have to reach behind and toggle the small black pieces to get it to slide all the way back. Even then in this default config it sticks out about 5 in. I went on here searching to see if other people have similar issues but I presume I just have defective sliders?

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe it is defective. Unless you mounted the sliders incorrectly to the desk. I’d contact output.

    Hi Andrew, I’m wondering if your desk included the screws to install your rack gear? (My desk included the screws to install the rails, but not any screws to install equipment). Wondering if you might tell me the size of the screws that you used to fix in your drawer and other gear? Thanks!

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if they didn't come with screws or if they came with the wrong size, I know I tried to fit some screws in and it didn't work. I believe they're 10-32 screws (but I had other equipment that came with screws, so I didn't specifically have to buy them).

    • @MrSheahey
      @MrSheahey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for responding - a friend consulted Output directly and was told 10-32 x 3/4 screws. Just trying to work out the equivalent metric size here in Australia to make sure we avoid cross-threading. Thanks again.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yikes, didn't realize the rest of the world outside the US would have issue's getting US screws. In our Home Depot's we stock common metric sizes, but thats probably because we understand we're the weird ones who won't just switch to metric haha. I hear shipping to Australia can be pretty expensive too.

    Hi Andrew, very informative video thanks for that. I have two questions for you; are you still happy with the desk now that almost a year has gone by? Secondly, im 6'4, so I will definitely try the risers, are they permanently attached or can you slip them off after the fact (if I find they are too wobbly , as you say)Thanks!

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Still love the desk, one of the best studio upgrades I did. The risers are like little spacers a few inches thick you put under the legs of the desk, totally removable. It was probably wobbly since im on carpet and I didn't have anything on the desk, but didn't want to risk it.

    Do you feel like this desk would work well if you swapped the positions of the keyboards? In other words, having the 88-key on the top surface and the computer keyboard/mouse on the keyboard tray. The tray isn't tall enough to fit my digital piano according to their compatibility specs, so I'm wondering if that reversed setup would still feel OK.

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent helpful review. Does it have room for a tower pc?

    • @AndrewSouthworth
      @AndrewSouthworth  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! There isn't any spot built into the desk for it (unless you mount your studio monitors off the desk on stands). However the design of the feet for the desk leaves a ton of clear space underneath - I have enough room under the desk to store a stool, a foot rest, my backpack, my foot pedal, and some boxes. If I had a tower i'd probably put it on the ground all the way to the right or left next to the 'legs' of the desk. I'm sure how good of a view I get in this video, but if you see pictures on their website you'll see how spacious they kept the area under the desk, very little surface area of the desk actually touches the ground.

      Nice! I'm still loving the desk, one of the best improvements to my workflow i've ever done. I was home alone at the time so I unboxed downstairs and carried it up in pieces as I needed each part. Very minor inconvenience though, if anything its improved my posture.

    This desk didn't work for me. Reasons: They lied about the height/clearance of some keyboards (NORDs specifically) so I couldn't use the KB tray, I would have never spent almost $800 on this if I would have realized their approved list was inaccurate. I would have been better off with side racks, independant monitor arms, and an IKEA hack desk system and would have come out even or less with much more versatile setup. I think this works for some, but it didn't work for me and I am basically out $800 because of a lie. Not going to give Output my business ever again.

      Honestly if you look at the competition it's actually a great value. Every other desk I looked at was either more expensive, didn't have the features I wanted, or looked like trash. To me the only other viable option was building my own desk, and at the time I was in a condo with no workshop or tools.
      This is a premium product for sure, but it is actually premium in quality and features and not just in price. This is one of the happiest purchases I ever made for my studio. When I moved it pretty easily came apart and re-assembled at the new house too, which is another big feature thats easy to overlook.
