An important note for people yet unaware; The reason the piece is never put on the ground during the drill, is because soldiers were expected (and drilled to the point that they were able) to do this whole drill, while marching. Since the manner in which msusketeers and calivermen were used, included the counter-march, where you have a block of men (often around 8 rows deep, and however wide was functional in the given scenario, but let us assume 12 men wide for a common-ish(?) size), fairly widely spaced when compared to later formations. The front rank would fire, and while they reload, they march back between the other ranks or along the outside of the whole 'block', and would thus rotate to the back of the formation, while the second rank opens fire, and does the same. The whole formation can thus maintain a fairly consistent rate of fire without the individual musketeer needing to fire all that many rounds in quick succession, as would be the preferred method in later periods.
    Though, for reference:
An English infantryman in the 1770's would be expected to be able to fire 3 rounds per minute under "parade" (good ish) circumstances.
A musketeer from the 1610's-1660's had no such standard per se. But, using this drill you can get a decent rate of 4 shots in 1,5 minutes, as was shown on the JYF Museums channel.
Anyhow, marvellous video as per usual!

yeah the reason that reloading became more important and you needed it to be faster its because how the rows were less deep compared to like the tercio formation.

Here's the 16th century Spanish musket drill we recorded - th-cam.com/video/PGPS5tCN3Rk/w-d-xo.html
The drill commands are in Spanish with English subtitles followed by a demonstration narrated in English.
