The idea people try to paint him as cruel and horrible don't understand that it was Edward's style that made him this way. Had his wife never died, the resistance would never had happened and that is the plain truth of it. It takes a man with nothing to lose and loss of sanity to fight against England in that day.
Right to point out that Braveheart wasn't a documentary 😉. First off, Wallace was a lowland Scot. The kilt was Highlander dress that wouldn't have been worn by a man from Renfrewshire. Second point is that Wallace died about 300 years prior to the development of the kilt. I'm from Ayrshire, not too far from where William Wallace was born. It's been a legend of our family history that we had an ancestor who fought at Stirling bridge in 1297. Maybe, but I really believe that we're all Jock Tamson's bairn.
Note: Robert the Bruce was King of the Scott’s from 1306 to 1329. William Wallace died in 1305. Thus William Wallace could not have been knighted by King Robert the Bruce!
If Wallace was indeed 6'6ft, he would've definitely been a terrifying opponent on the battlefield. Imagine a giant of a man coming at you weilding a two-handed sword, I'll bet a lot of guys were shitting their pants, and probably not just his opponents, but probably some of his own men were terrified of him as well.
@Ladybug Laff are you Scottish too? Bidh sinn a ‘cumail ri chèile👌🏻🏴 There’s a monument in Spain where the black Douglas died, the whole story is written on it, English on one side, Spanish on the other. Quite a cool sight, but surreal to see it in Spain so far away. Slainte
@Ladybug Laff when Black Douglas was killed in Spain, it was my ancestor Sir Simon (Symon) Locard who brought Roberts heart back to Scotland. My family was then called Lockheart, now Lockhart. Family history is so fun!
Absolute nonsense. Robert De Bruce, a Norman nobleman, only sought power and money. He used nationalism to secure both. He also destroyed many historic castles all over Scotland. When he wasn't committed cultural atrocities, betraying actual nationalists, he would commit actual atrocities, e.g. having babies thrown against walls to quieten rebellious villages.
@@Chadhogan111 After His Death, Robert's Heart Went On Crusade To Spain And Was Thrown At Some Muslims-That's Why He Was Called Braveheart. According to a 14th-century Scottish chronicler named John Barbour, Robert the Bruce always regretted that he never went on crusade. FACTS

@Ruthanne D'Antuono Oh yes. The usa is totally a Scottish nation. . . Not. You cannot go on any platform without a slew of usa commentators hijacking the comment section in an especially political way. The usa simply can't handle anyone existing without twisting the history to make it about themselves, even if the usa didn't exist at the time of said history. It's pathetic.
@Ruthanne D'Antuono Imagine someone walks into a complete strangers house and begins to make claims that they are responsible for the homes design although they were born 300 years later. Then the intruder becomes affronted and states the owner has a chip on their shoulder since they are protesting said intrusion. Look. It's ok to hear other nations/peoples history without changing or commandeering the story. It can even be enjoyable to just listen and not self insert.
It takes a real dumbshit to not realize that Scottish American descendants share the exact same degree of heritage to medieval Scotland as do any present day inhabitants...And... We have the freedom of speech thing you never much learned about...

the music is too loud you can hardly hear the narrator

Very good upload. Thanks🤴👸
14:10 when you're trying to play bowls and Tony Robinson walks through talking about William Wallace

“ it’s not strength that makes a man powerful in battle, it’s his heart”
Say that to 10 year old kid fighting mike Tyson.
Cardio is important.
Sounds like a Kingdom Hearts quote
I’ve seen this Documentary on tv, the background music was louder than the narrater.
Always a fascinating documentary to watch Tony, a stones throw from where i live...
William Wallace was my 23rd Great Uncle, Robert the Bruce was my 20th G Grandfather and also my 20th Great Uncle…
He’s a distant relative of mine too! Not sure how tho. We’re working on researching it
Why, if Tony knew Robert Bruce was Braveheart and mentioned that pretty early, did he start the whole film by saying Wallace was Braveheart?
Because Bruce's self-serving attempts at propaganda didn't fool most people.
With all them people talking in the background I can barely hear the music 😳
Note:
Robert the Bruce was King of the Scott’s from 1306 to 1329.
William Wallace died in 1305.
Thus William Wallace could not have been knighted by King Robert the Bruce!
The narrator is too quiet at some points 😵
Music is too loud!

Was Mel Gibson not braveheart ?
But did he have a cunning plan?
A plan so cunning, you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel
Hero or Villain? Depends who you ask,.... A question as old as time.
8 adverts in a 50 minute documentary. Terrible sound quality. CRAP
That's what adblocker is for........
Why does it sound like this was recorded in a bathroom? Makes it rather off putting
Oh hey, thanks, I couldn't have pictured what entrails being ripped apart looked like if you hadn't shown it 20 times. Fuckin christ.
The way this is sold that Wallace and Murray weren't chivalric .. but the sacking of Berwick was..?
Edward Longshanks King of England 20th Great Grandfather….
This was better than the film.
the angry bagel guy knows his shit who knew
I’ll never watch the movie again knowing how inaccurate it is
In other videos I have seen. It appears the French played a part in his demise. Instead of the English? 💟
first shown 7 oct 2013
Robert the bruce was the real braveheart, not william Wallace, as it was his heart that was sent off to holy land with the crusaders
As mentioned about 15 minutes in.
