Separate beds as you get older is bliss. My husband has developed a night time routine that drives me up the wall. I get restless and that wakes him up. Doesn’t mean we no longer love each other . It is about getting the best night sleeps.

I agree, I’ve been married for 46 years and I still adore my husband. But we sleep in different beds. My husband can’t sleep without the television on and I need quiet, plus I snore really badly!

Your Dad is 100% right, I was married/lived with my husband for 45 years and we were always the absolute best of friends, always tried to be kind to each other, also when we got married neither of us expected anything to change, as we'd lived together for 8 years, but it did change, it seemed much more special. We have two children about you and your sister's age and unfortunately my husband died in 2021 after a long illness, during that time I was with him 24/7, it went on for 16 years, but the last year was the worst, I was with him the whole time he was in hospital, even though we were in lockdown because of COVID, I still slept with him every night in a hospital bed in the hospital, I was with him when he took his last breath, and he will forever be a part of me, I love your podcast and think you guys are great.

In 20-30 years Roman you’ll realise your dad spoke very honest words. In my 50’s divorced but how he talks about friendship and love is something I still live in hope of having again.

You will think this is strange, but I am 73 year old lady and I have such a laugh.
You are so lucky to have such a lovely relationship.
You remind me of my son.
But what makes me so sad, is that my children never had this with their dad. He was an alcoholic and when my boy was 17 and girl 19 he committed suicide.
    The cruelest thing for children.
I'm so thankful that they haven't gone totally off the rails and we have a good relationship and can have a laugh.
But it is so important to have it with your dad, you two are blessed.
I have my doubts about the glasses 😂

I’ve been married to my husband for 32 years. We were the best of friends for a few years before we ever dated. You absolutely have to stay friends with your spouse. Regardless of what happens with jobs and kids and health….whatever it may be you have to be friends and it’s a nice bonus if they can make you laugh in any situation.

Martin is right again - does not matter if you are married or not if someone strays it is over. I agree I would never be able to trust that person ever again so the relationship would be absolutely over. Could not live with no trust - my life would be miserable so would not allow the person to be in my life any longer - it would be over goodbye.

Loved this - thank you!! I'm a psychological therapist and was a maid of honour for my friend's wedding and I gave a speech about what will (hopefully) get you through longevity of a relationship...and that was listening to one another...I mean really listening. Validating, acknowledging, respecting. You don't always need to agree with their point but how it makes them feel, you can validate. See each other, hear each other whilst not losing yourself. Sounds cliche but communicate. Never lose site of that. Invest in each other because when the time comes to make a withdrawal on your relationship (such as life stresses) you both won't be left empty. Be playful. As adults we lose the art of play. Have fun and remember what attracted you about this person. It's still there, it may just because you've lost site of each other. And as Martin says kindness and friendship is the glue.
    1. Listen... really listen and take ownership (be self-aware)
    2. Validate...Communicate
    3. Invest in each other and yourself
    4. Play...have fun
    5. Remember who you both are and what brought you together
    6. Be kind
    7. Be each others best friend and cheerleader
And remember, how do you get good at anything in life? It takes practice, so be patient with each other and yourself ❤❤

Met my hubby aged 23, engaged 10mos later. Married a year on, now 36 years without having lived together first . Yes it was a big learning curve but.... Friendship so important. Even if we were to split we'd never lose each other.

This is a great premise for a channel. It's nice to watch a father talk to the son he loves about important things. My Dad didn't like me as much as he liked Guinness. He's dead now, oh well.

You both made me laugh out loud 😂..totally agree, friendship, respect, and kindness..learning to live with each others quirks and loving them for who they are. Arguments and discussion are only human as we aren't exactly the same person, but it's accepting and listening to someone's opinion or agreeing to disagree . X

I cal offer no advice here as I’ve never been married. Your podcasts popped up randomly on my TH-cam feed recently and having watched one I have to comment. I love your relationship with each other. It’s so healthy. And your interaction makes me laugh out loud especially when Roman is squirming and Martin is laughing and happy to ‘go there’. Really interesting subjects you choose to discuss too. Looking forward to the next one. And even more squirming 😆

Like to hear Shirley’s view on if you are legally married. We married months after my mil passed away as we found out first hand the legal problems once one partner has passed away. No such thing legally as common law relationship. We never go to sleep on a row. Might start again in the morning .
