In the defense of the dude on Twitch who wasn't sure about being friends, there's been a number of situations on the platform and probably other streaming services where people will donate large sums of money for privilege within the stream they donate to and they'll end up expecting something in return. It's usually men donating to women expecting "favors" but it's covered the whole spectrum of weird so most Twitch streamers wanna be careful about their community. There's also a solid chance he was still under the impression it was a scam because a $1000 dollar donation is insane.
You are not wrong. If something appears to be too good to be true, it usually is. Most people would find this highly suspicious.
