  • We are very happy to share this incredible video about the Battle of the Bulge and the fight for Stoumont, Belgium. This bloody battle took place in the small village of Stoumont in December 1944, between the U.S. 30th Infantry Division and Kampfgruppe Peiper including the 1SS Panzer Division.
This video features 9 incredible Then & Now photographs along with powerful video footage taken by the Germans as they fought to take the town in 1944. As you watch the video, you will learn more about David Frens, a young replacement attached to the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division on Christmas Eve 1944.
Please take the time to watch and share the video.

"Elite" of the German army is quite an overstatement. With massive numbers of green teenage recruits and 25 tot 30 percent Luftwaffe ground personnel pressured into SS service - all with little more than six weeks of basic training - the soldiers of the 30th US Infantry Division were most likely better trained than their German opponents.
Anyway, the photos were taken by SS-Unterscharführer Büschel and the movie footage by SS-Unterscharführer Schäfer, both SS PK-Berichter

Thanks for posting. The 30th Division finally received the Presidential Unit Citation after many years of delay. They fought against elite German divisions and never lost a battle. The 30th was ranked as the best division in the European Theater of Operations by Army historians after the war. My uncle, Pvt. Joseph Scodella, served in the 119th Regiment and died of wounds during the assault on Aachen in October 1944.

Wonderful video, the SS Officer in leather going to pick up the Panzerfaust60 was Werner Poetschke, commander of SS.Pz Rgt.1. He was later killed in Hungary in March 1945. the two panther tanks that you see in the beginning of the video are panthers 225 (Burning panther) it had it barrel shot off. the second panther advancing cautiously behind it is panther 215 which was later on knocked out west of the train station of Stoumont towards the small hamlet of Targnon.

My grandfather, Staff Sergeant Anthony Michael Pascale, served in the 30th Infantry as a member of I Company in the 117th. Everyone who served in our military should be given the utmost respect.
While the 101st and 82nd are often cited when covering WW2, the men who fought and served in the 30th are often overlooked. They were known as “Roosevelt’s SS” and I want to thank the folks who put this together; it is a very nice tribute.
Also, even though it’s a week late - Happy Memorial Day to all those who wore the uniform over the last 247+ years. Those men and women helped to establish, keep, and expand the greatest nation in the history of modern civilization. I am thankful for all who have fought for the RED, WHITE, and BLUE.

You can expect help from the natives, even if they don't speak English fluently: just speak clearly.

You will notice on hundreds and hundreds of videos across TH-cam that many Allied soldiers when being taken prisoner there not being harassed to keep their hands up in the air or being hit with the butt of their captors weapons... As opposed to when you see footage of Germans surrendering you see them being harassed and yelled at to keep their hands up to stand a certain way against the wall ,being beaten by the butts of the rifles of the so-called allies... You don't have to listen to me all you have to do is compare footage... And of course you're going to bring up the" Germans kill prisoners"... Sure they did they did kill prisoners... But so did the allies and there is documented proof..... no one side are true "angels"
