  • Today marks the 76th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, in order to commemorate this anniversary we are releasing our first Then and Now video focusing on the events that took place in the early days of the battle. In the following video, you will discover 10 incredible Then & Now photos and the story of a less known unit that played a key role in slowing the German advance in the early stages of this grueling battle. The tenacious and fierce group of men, from the 28th Infantry Division, would hold back the German troops for several days while suffering high casualties.
Many of the commemorations are not possible this year. It is our hope that with this video, no matter where you live in the world, we can all take part in this commemoration to remember and honor these brave men. May we never forget them.

My grandfather was also with the 112th Infantry Regiment. He served as a medic with the 1st Battalion, his Commanding Officer was the Battalion Surgeon, Captain Paschal Linguiti of Philadelphia. My grandfather Private Michael Oles from New York, was captured when the Germans overran the Battalion Aid Station I believe on the 17th of December 1944.

Thank you for your most timely film on the 28th Infantry's participation in this battle. My father-in-law who passed 3 years ago on December 9th, 2017 was part of the 112th. He was also found unconscious in a shell hole by a passing medic who happened to notice him taking a breath, moving him back to what I believed to be the 106th Medical Field Hospital. His recognition of all this timeframe was always very blurry, until he was moved back to France to a larger Field Hospital. He was wide awake when the surgeons spoke of amputating both his feet due to severe frostbite, which he fought bitterly against. He somehow convinced them to leave them, for which he was never able to tolerate cold weather again. My guess is this all occurred early in the battle since the 106th Med was overrun by the Germans relatively early in the battle timeline, after the Germans swung east of Bastogne to bypass it, running smack into the Field Hospital. You're filming of the areas where he was and more insight to the 28th Infantry is well appreciated since the first days are generally glossed over. Bravo MON AMIS!!

I'm a retired 28th ID soldier who at one point in my career was stationed in Germany. I retraced many of the battle fields from the Heurtgen Forest that the 28th fought in, but didn't get to check out the areas around Bastogne. Thanks for sharing this as I found it very interesting history about the division that I served with.

Hey Florent and Joey , Just an Outstanding Job !!! You bring it back to life and Honor the Men who fought there . I am a Cold War veteran U.S.Army who was there in Bitburg , West Germany from 1983-86 and been to many of those places . I meet German Soldiers who were still living and heard their side of the story too . I been in the field in Eifel-Ardennes in 1984 when on a NATO alert and it was the Coldest winter they said in 40 years , it was unbelievably cold and around 3-4 feet of snow with good winds at times. I had on multiple pants ,long johns and field jacket and parka and was still dangerously Cold . You could not sleep in your sleeping bag ,but for an hour or so before your body woke you up shaking and you had to get up and jump around in the bag, we were in tents .... My point there is we had Cold weather gear and were suffering badly . After 2 weeks ,they had to bring the units in ,due to people coming down with frost bite and cold weather injuries . I had the 1st stages of trench foot and were Changing my socks regular . With that being said , I don't see how the U.S.Army Soldiers there in the opening days and later were able to withstand terrible Cold ,but THANK GOD they did and fought tooth and nail to hold ,buy time ,and reform the lines !!! What yall do is to preserve history , bring it back to life and to Honor those American Soldiers who fought ,bled , and died all over the woods and hills there in the Ardennes, is beyond words to me , cause to me people like you and Joey and others with you show Respect and Honor those men's lives, deeds and history . I been to Hamm Cemetery in Luxembourg many times as an Honor Guard while there . Duty Honor Country .....Ol'Sgt Love Easy Battery 2/62 ADA , 32nd ADDCOM ,West Germany 1983-86 Bravo Battery 1/55 ADA , 5th Infantry Division (Mech) USA/ West Germany and a few others ... God Bless You All .....

Sir, thank you very much for your service and thank you for commenting this video. The details of the story you shared are very interesting, it's always more difficult for civilians (including myself) to really understand the everyday life of an infantry man. Sleeping outside in the cold, surviving on rations, being under artillery fire etc .... Again thank you for this powerful comment, for your service and for honoring these brave soldiers who fought for our freedom 76 years ago. Sincerely, Florent Plana

My father, Norman Gracie, was with the 110th Infantry, K Company, defending Hosingen. He was one of 300, that surrendered , according to the arrangements, that their commander agreed to...... That was on December 18th. Eventually he would be a POW at Stalag 9B near Bad Orb, Germany. They would be liberated in early/mid April '45.

I drive a car with German plates and the scars from the past still taint my welcome until they realize I’m US. I enjoy a crab baguette and smile in remembrance visit the Sherman tank in the parking lot. Thanks for your channel and what you share here.

In the early 1990's the 28th Division flew a number of its WWII vets back to Luxemburg. The veterans walked the ground shown in this video and told their stories. All of this was captured on video and made into a documentary.
I served with the 28th Division's 56th Stryker Brigade in Iraq. If I can find that original video I'll post it.

My grandfather Captain Joseph Vasquez was part of the 28th division (bloody bucket). He was wounded by mortar shrapnel and he was awarded 2 bronze stars along with purple heart. He was a true hero and patriot. He was among the most battle hardened soldiers of the entire war. I've always loved listening to his experiences and stories and have always had an interest and admiration for the history of ww2. God bless all the brave men who valiantly fought for our freedom

Thank you for remembering the combat actions and determination of the soldiers of the 28th Division. They “held at all costs”, delayed the Nazi timetable for days allowing American reinforcements to pour in, dooming this last gasp offensive in the west. Soldiers, leaders and family members of the 28th have returned to these battlefields many times and always receive inspiration and feel gratitude that our soldiers sacrifice is remembered. Signed, 34th Commanding General, 28th Division. “ROLL ON”!
