Killzone 2 multiplayer was PHENOMENAL back in the day…the maps, game modes, and character classes were all way ahead of their time! I did not enjoy Killzone 3’s as much because it felt like it strayed from the formula/uniqueness I loved so much with 2
I remember one of the dlc maps. The one with the atomic bomb going off every 5 minutes... Total mayhem, friend and foes running for cover, most of the time ending in the same building, smoke everywhere. Then the explosion, darkness, only the red and blue eyes of players. Sometimes you could see them holding back and not shooting even though you were in the same room as if there was a mutual truce for a few seconds till the nuke goes off. Other times all hell would brake loose. I miss this game so much. The servers went down not so long ago.
I once met a developer in Amsterdam inside the metro, I had to ask him about KZ because it has been my favourite game for a while but it's sad that as of now they've moved on to Horizon..
@The Major League Ginger I've never understood that criticism of Aloy. I'm playing Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5 right now, and she looks fine. Athletic but not groomed, makes sense because this is the apocalypse
@MXRGAN Music I really wish Guerilla would make both Horizon and Killzone. Insomniac can both pump out Marvel games and Ratchet/Clank so it's definitely possible for Guerilla as well
i'll never forget how floored i was when i first played Killzone 3 and saw the graphics. it was the coolest, most visceral gaming experience i had ever had at the time.
@@ChrisThePlayer777 you sure? It’s definitely special if it looks as good as it does on a ps4. Half of the time I was just staring at the sun to see the light bounce off of my gun. Maybe it’s just that I’ve been playing games released after the ps5 came out, but it looks insane to me

This was my favorite shooter back in the day. Amazing graphics & the best multiplayer modes. No other game seems to have to created a mode like Killzone 3 where you could play almost every game mode in the same map back to back without any stop in gameplay. Also that sound when you get a kill... Chef's kiss!
Killzone 2 is the game that got me hooked into first person shooters, it had an amazing atmosphere. Killzone 3 multiplayer was better tough. its crazy to see how ahead in time these games were looking back.
Level, I gotta say I'm absolutely loving your content these days. I've been following you since the early days of BF3 and as much as I miss the good ol' days of Loadout and Squad Up, I've always been drawn to your analytical skills when it comes to this industry. I'm extremely happy to see you covering a wide range of games and genres and this game series (and the PS3 as a whole) is just such a huge part of my past, that I really wish these gems weren't forgotten so quickly. I'm in love with Horizon as a franchise, but I've never forgotten where Guerilla started and it's nice to see someone as large as you, give it the spotlight that it deserves. If you enjoy doing these videos enough, I really hope you are looking to do more like this in the future because a large majority of today's audience, has no idea what they missed out on. The Playstation platform has had so many peak moments in it's time that I feel like, as we already know, Sony just doesn't care enough to preserve and so this is really all we have to relive those moments. So I appreciate you taking the time to do the research and work and get this information out to your audience in a meaningful, and hopefully impactful, way. Big shoutout to the RPCS3 devs for allowing our history to live on into the future.
Killzone 3s melee combat was also on another level, being able to smash them into walls and jam your thumps into there eyes, such a great melee system, as well as everything else that you mentioned
This was personally my favorite franchise for a while since KZ3. Hope they revisit the series since they’re going to focusing on making live-services games.
This game was a big part of my childhood, I grew up on PS3 and envied my friends for having the ability to play Halo on Xbox so I had to "get by" with games like these. Thought it was AMAZING back in the day and replayed it a million times lol So awesome to see it running at such high FPS
Killzone 2 is where it's at for me. Alot of hours in that game. Nostalgia hitting hard!!..if i could go back to that time period for just a day I'd do it in a heartbeat
Killzone 2 was definitely way ahead of its time graphically, the game itself was just pretty decent. Killzone 3 really improved the gameplay mechanics and it also had a very underrated multiplayer experience. Guerrilla really needs to revive this series
I'll never forget forcing myself to beat KZ2 on Elite difficulty. The most brutal but fun experience I've had in gaming. I pray for a remaster or a good sequel one day
Thanks for reviewing the game, I would just like to mention a few things. Killzone 3 runs 90-95% solid smooth 30FPS on our old PS3, much smoother than Killzone 2. Furthermore, the 720p is an issue on a computer monitor, but very much less on a decent enough TV which applies sharpening effects whilst you are sitting 5m away. Recently, after I struggled with getting Killzone 3 to run on the mentioned PC emulator I reverted back to dusting off our older PS3 console and connected it to our 4K TV and it looks and runs much better; one reason being 4K is exactly 9 times the multiple of 720p, therefore perfect upscaling and the sharpening of the TV takes away the blurry bi-cubic filtering you are left with on a computer monitor. Last note, Killzone 3 had near perfect multithreading capabilities for the PS3 (which had at least 6 usable slave cores for the game, not to mention the main SMT core) but porting to PC adds a secondary graphics API loop-hole the emulator developers have to jump through which are on top of that affected by Nvidia or AMD's own DirectX11 driver.
I loved all of the Killzones.. even the one on the PSP. After all these years. The Helghast helmet from the special edition is still in my livingroom (it's moved from our appartement, to the house we actually live in now)
Straight from the thumbnail I knew what game you would be talking about today! Killzone 3 was my favorite of all five games I've played, and they've had huge impacts on my preferences for aesthetics and gameplay in shooters. Killzone: SF - what you referred to as KZ4 in the video - is definitely more of a tech demo compared to the three main-line games before it. It's great to see it running this well, but when playing games like DUST 514 or PS3's version of Battlefield 4, the performance didn't seem so bad at all back then. I'd really love to see Guerilla go back to Killzone in the future.
Killzone 2 and it’s multiplayer where excellent. I still wonder why no big name military fps has tried to do a 1st person cover system. The game was dope
KillZone 2 was and will always be the better Killzone game of them all. Killzone 2 hard to believe was the first game to ever use in a first-person shooter to have the slide mechanic, plus the multiplayer battle grounds were the Best maps ever made at the time for any other game on the PlayStation console.
Killzone 2 feels like it came out in a different lifetime. I still remember the release hype, and the game actually lived up to it! It's multiplayer was slower and chunkier but I loved how everything felt heavy, like soldiers were steamrollers.
The physical weight you feel in your character when moving felt so good in kz2. I still think back to the level on the train and how good the tarp flying off the crates looked. Superb scenes in that game. The level at the bridge was awesome as well.
Back in the day PlayStation still had mega exclusives, I remember Killzone being one, I think people who didn't play it underrated it. WipeOut, Uncharted, Little Big Planet, Rachet & Clank, Motorstorm, Resistance and Infamous were probably the other PS3-4 games I played around this time too, good times

I remember Killzone 2 being my introduction to the PS3 when it first came out & the graphics straight blowing my mind; Mind you, i was 13 when this came out (26 now) & at the time i was still playing the OG Xbox, PS2 & PS1 & was planning to get the 360 because Dead Rising wasnt on PS3 ( I wouldn't get a ps3 until i was 19 ). I can still remember the day my brother in law booted Killzone 2 up while i was walking by talking mad ish about the PS3 (I was in middle school during the start & peak of the 2nd generation console wars... i was loyal to my Xbox brethren) to then becoming glued to the TV after glancing at the screen just for a second. A few years ago i remembered the killzone franchise after watching a video on the failure their last 2 entries were; I remembered the graphics being comparable to modern games & decided to revisit them to see if the game really did look as good as i remembered or was just another case of every single game as a child looking super realistic & high definition but in reality, looked like a blurry version of Minecraft. So i turned on the PS4, bought Killzone 2 on the Playstation store, booted it up & was floored of how good it looked even compared to the modern era. To you younger gamers, trust me when i say that this game was unrivaled graphically during its release (2009) & the only other game that could stand toe to toe & win, was Crisis (2007) & crisis 2 (2011). Please, if you haven't played a Killzone game, go buy Killzone 2, 3 & Shadow Fall ( If you had to choose 1, get 2) not for the riveting story & well written characters, but for the amazing graphics, game/gunplay & the simple but fun multiplayer. IDK HOW Guerrilla Games made this & the other Killzones looks so good that new gamers would confuse this as being new... but they need to come back, teach the devs at these AAA studios & show them how its done. Killzone is underrated & needs a much needed, well loved & polished reboot.
I loved all of the Killzone games and would love to try them on PC! I remember how intense & fun Killzone 2's multiplayer was. I was obsessed with it at the time that I even screen printed a T-shirt with the Marksman Class logo. Thos games were truly ahead of their time!
Killzone 3 was one of my favourite games of the PS3 era, I actual went back and got the platinum trophy back in late 2021. Lol I actually got the remaining co-op trophies by plugging in my PS5 controller into my PS3 along with using a regular PS3 controller and completed the required trophies for the plat
KZ3 was one of the fist games I bought for my ps3 back in the time, loved the campaign and played hundred hours of the multiplayer, was even my second platinum of my life, I really miss this type of games, just pick and play, without a massive open world filled with quests and collectables, wish this franchise come back, at least a remaster
The PS3 really had an incredible library of games. I remember watching the first cutscene of Killzone 2 back in 2008. The graphics absolutely blew my mind.
It does hold up very well (played through it again 2-3 years back). Also Killzone Shadow Fall looks stunning still, especially at 60fps on PS5 - hard to believe its a decade old game!
The gameplay of Killzone 2 in my opinion is the best for a FPS game and the multiplayer was amazing, you will not find a better FPS now with the most pleasure feeling of shooting a LMG than KZ2.
Man me and my dad played through this campaign it was so damn fun I’ll never forget finding the glitches to get out of the map and stuff in multiplayer good times.
Only played Killzone 3 in its multi-player beta (it was great), but I did play Killzone Shadowfall. Shadowfall's multiplayer was DIVINE, nothing was like it at the time and the setting was so great. Loved the pacing of the game and how smooth animations were. Always been a bit miffed that Guerilla games have been focusing on a single player series. Would love a new Killzone game on PC.
Would be nice to point out Guerilla also managed to squeeze a modified version of the KZ3 engine into the portable Mercenaries title on the PSVita. Making it the 4th System Guerilla would push the envelope on. Still, I find KZ2 to look better in some instances as it would also render dynamic shadows based on muzzle flash from your gun. That effect was sadly lost in KZ3.
Playing Killzome 2 for the first time was an unforgettable experience. Like playing God of War 3, or Uncharted 2… or Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64… Some games just felt like eye openers.
It feels like it was just yesterday that I was playing this game for the first time, and now it's been 12 years! It's a nostalgic experience to reminisce about everything this game brought.
super power neon game….. Infamous Second Son/First Light?? Speaking of the Order 1886, I liked it, for the world. I would never recommend it to anyone to buy it for more than $5, or even $10 if I’m being generous. Think that’s the first time I ever experienced buyers remorse after paying $80 for its Special edition (I was a sucker for the steelbook). Wish there was more gameplay to it. Oh the days when devs gave that crappy excuse of “cinematic experience” when the cinematic experience has always been 24fps, not 30fps. But hey least there were black bars.
@@J0kerHecz That’s the one! If those got raytracyed crisis remastered upgrades for ps5 pro and PC I’d be very happy. Never played the Order, loved the look of the world, but I imagine it was an interactable movie. It might have been better at higher framefrate. Defiantly delivered a sequel that expanded gameplay with better more powerful tech
I’ve been reminiscing about killzone and killzone 2 recently too. I think the fact the FPS market is terrible and has been for a half decade or so, is the reason, I, you, and many others are thinking back on killzone rn
I remember when i played Killzone 1 on PS2 and i was blown away at the time. Never saw such a good looking fps before, i loved the action too. Never played KZ 2 and 3 though.
I think that is grossly understated is how the fund felt. The vibration, the heavy sound effects, the right amount of sway and blow back. This game would be insane with the dualsense if it was released now days
Says alot for modern games when we keep going back to the "good old days" Killzone 2 and 3 were great. Just goes to show when you have focus on one set of hardware and push it hard rather than trying to develop a game for a bazillion different hardware combos. The results were awesome.
well, that studio has shown and is showing that they´re GFX masters. KZ3 also had actually meaningful 3D effects. The KZ2 Trailer is also one of the best "actionmovies" ever;)
Killzone was absolute dope-tier. 1 and 2 were gems, one of my favorite games on the ps2 and ps3 respectively. I got the platinum for Killzone 2 and I'm still pretty proud of it after all these years even when I stopped caring about trophies long ago lol. I'll never forget those multiplayer days. Killzone 3 a bit less so but still a nice game. Shadow Fall... meh. I still had some fun with it but that mostly came down to me being a sucker for those kind of scifi settings. The first time I played the game I thought it was boring af. There's also Liberation on the psp which was a lot of fun. Mercenary is the only one I haven't played. But I got a Vita a while back (look I just felt like it >_>) so I'll definitely play it down the road. Hope this franchise will get to make a comeback one day. No idea where they could take the story tho. It all just kinda went downhil after 2. Anyway it's pretty cool to see you make a Killzone video. Keep up the good work.
Ah what great memories playing this game to absolute death. That PS2/PS3 era was just incredible. I love what GG are doing with the Horizon series, but i do hope we get to revisit Killzone again some time. Killzone & BLACK, both bring amazing memories of a time in gaming thats lost.
A PC Killzone trilogy remaster wouldn't be a bad idea at the right price range. Another old game series that would be interesting would be "Resistance"👍
This game was absolutely amazing. The weight the weapons felt like they had. The raspy gunfire sounds effects, crisp reloads, damage balancing, the visuals, absolute masterpiece and I still miss the multiplayer to this day
Went back through 2 and 3 myself quite recently and it truly is mind blowing how the two hold up to this day still 2 in particular pushed the benchmark for an FPS on console back at release and I still don't think it got the love it should have Absolute technical powerhouse of a game and not just visually
KILLZONE wasn't just a chidlhood game or some random shooter lost in the past, It was literally an underrated masterpiece of gaming. With all the key ingredients tied to it.
I'm glad Killzone is finally getting some well deserved love. I remember playing this game a bunch back in grade school. But I'm surprised you didn't go into the lore or story of the game. I've always thought the Killzone had a very interesting setting and a great aesthetic! Also, Killzone 3 had a multiplayer mode which you could have touched on. I'd be interested to see how that would have held up...
The sound design in this game was so good. Operations and Warzone modes were also awesome since they had all kinds of objective modes in one single match.
It's so sad to see Killzone die. I remember when I got my copy of Killzone 2 on new year in about 2011-2012. It was a little unfair in some places, but overall it was so great to play this back in a day. Though I think Mercenaries will be my favorite. Not only it is awesome game, it's also a great game for Vita. And multiplayer in it was great.
I remember buying a playstation three just for killzone. And then I picked up the move kit as well Ghost recon gun kit and played this whole game. Couldn't snipers. However after playing this game for a couple hours my arms hurt my legs Hurt. But I got stronger. And my endurance was going up. Good times when you can work out and play games. 0:01

Please, if you haven't played a Killzone game, go buy Killzone 2, 3 & Shadow Fall ( If you had to choose 1, get 2) not for the riveting story & well written characters, but for the amazing graphics, game/gunplay & the simple but fun multiplayer.
IDK HOW Guerrilla Games made this & the other Killzones looks so good that new gamers would confuse this as being new... but they need to come back, teach the devs at these
AAA studios & show them how its done.
Killzone is underrated & needs a much needed, well loved & polished reboot.
You can't buy killzone 2 on ps4 🧐 last time I checked ps3 isn't backwards compatible.
I played this game SO MUCH! I loved the multiplayer, it was so much fun. The sounds are so nostalgic, the little bleeps are so good.
Levelcap noticing killzone's existence gave me life
I loved all of the Killzone games and would love to try them on PC! I remember how intense & fun Killzone 2's multiplayer was. I was obsessed with it at the time that I even screen printed a T-shirt with the Marksman Class logo. Thos games were truly ahead of their time!
It is an absolute crime there are no native PC versions of Killzone games even though emulating is always an option.
4:51 - Since when is Ryzen 5800x3d + RTX 3080 Ti mid range?? WTF??
Killzone 2 and 3 MP are amazing.
you should also play killzone 2. the battles and campaing of that game were on another level, the only downside it had was the movement
KZ3 was one of the fist games I bought for my ps3 back in the time, loved the campaign and played hundred hours of the multiplayer, was even my second platinum of my life, I really miss this type of games, just pick and play, without a massive open world filled with quests and collectables, wish this franchise come back, at least a remaster
game looks brand new
The PS3 really had an incredible library of games.
Man i miss killzone. So under-rated
The gameplay of Killzone 2 in my opinion is the best for a FPS game and the multiplayer was amazing, you will not find a better FPS now with the most pleasure feeling of shooting a LMG than KZ2.
It's like "Black" for PS2. That game looked so much ahead of time.
Man me and my dad played through this campaign it was so damn fun I’ll never forget finding the glitches to get out of the map and stuff in multiplayer good times.
Killzone 2&3 were honestly amazing games and had amazing Multiplayer really do miss the series
Like playing God of War 3, or Uncharted 2… or Ocarina of Time, Super Mario 64…
Some games just felt like eye openers.
Killzone is my second favorite playstation franchise. 1.medal gear solid. 2.killzone 3. Socom navy seals 4.dino crisis 5.onimusha
It feels like it was just yesterday that I was playing this game for the first time, and now it's been 12 years! It's a nostalgic experience to reminisce about everything this game brought.
It makes me feel old, I was 14-16 when I first played the game, like how many 12 years we have in our lives
KZ 3 still one of the most multiplayer shooter games I’ve ever played. Brings a lot of memories back. Still have my copy and console.
People crap on Microsoft for the few closures recently. But Sony has mass killed so many franchises. Order 1888, Killzone, that super power neon game
The order 1886 was legendary, that was such an underrated game.
super power neon game…..
I still hope a day comes when Guerrilla returns back to the killzone franchise! It's still in my to ten!
I remember playing this game in 3D on the PS3. Yes, that's right, this game was 3D TV compatible and it was awesome!
Man Killzone 2 was brilliant for it's time
Killzone 2 and 3 had ray tracing before ray tracing was a thing. It's insane how they achieved such a feat on the PS3.
No they did not.
Played it again a month ago on ps3 and it's still an impressive game, it looks great and it's fun to play.
You consider an rtx 3080 ti upper mid tier? Nah.
The KZ2 multiplayer is Still the benchmark I judge shooters on.
Nothings beaten it yet, imo
Anyhow, great vid
I think that is grossly understated is how the fund felt. The vibration, the heavy sound effects, the right amount of sway and blow back. This game would be insane with the dualsense if it was released now days
Before DEI, before fan-base blaming, before the fall of the 3A gaming.
Says alot for modern games when we keep going back to the "good old days"
Killzone 2 and 3 were great.
Just goes to show when you have focus on one set of hardware and push it hard rather than trying to develop a game for a bazillion different hardware combos.
The results were awesome.
4:51 TFW 5800x3d and a 3080ti is mid tier now...
well, that studio has shown and is showing that they´re GFX masters. KZ3 also had actually meaningful 3D effects. The KZ2 Trailer is also one of the best "actionmovies" ever;)
And they made Concord instead
I used to spend hours playing co op against bots with my cousins in Killzone 1. One of my gaming core memories for sure.
Resistance 2 was awesome. I loved the 8 player co op.
This game was absolutely amazing. The weight the weapons felt like they had. The raspy gunfire sounds effects, crisp reloads, damage balancing, the visuals, absolute masterpiece and I still miss the multiplayer to this day
i remember that i have saved my lunch money to buy PS3 and this was the first game i have owned. Graphics were incredible at that time.
Killzone 2 and 3 are still masterpieces!
Went back through 2 and 3 myself quite recently and it truly is mind blowing how the two hold up to this day still
2 in particular pushed the benchmark for an FPS on console back at release and I still don't think it got the love it should have
Absolute technical powerhouse of a game and not just visually
I pray we see a Killzone Collection one day. Games were a lot of fun.
Killzone 2 for me still the best looking game of all the killzone games. It just had the right atmosphere and realistic gunplay.
