Finally, a GBASP with a headphone jack
Finally 😪
K101 Revo had it 10 years ago. Also has mSD support.
@@yackablejohnson1485 yeah but it's not an sp
Yes!
Dude this is a literal dream coming true. Can't wait for them to release that
Tomorrow ;) check their site
Why's this a dream? It has no sticks, so ALL games that require them, are unplayable
@@Gibonni91 The DS also didn't have sticks and I loved it's form factor, my DS bricked and I've been having tons of fun with those emulators so this is like the best of both worlds for me
I think most of us who buy this will be likely playing the games from the device it is designed after.
@@Gibonni91or u could just not play those games 😐
*OR U COULD JUST MAP THE STICK TO THE DPAD*
That default GBA bezel at the bottom takes this device to the next level.
This is a pocketable emulation station. We have WiFi and Bluetooth as well as HDMI!, you can easily connect 4 Bluetooth controllers and play any game, even on 16:9. I don't understand why not one of the big retro emulation TH-camrs have gone through this angle. You can have retroachievements, you can play any 16:9 game from the PSP or dreamcast with buddies.
The unique value proposition of this... instead of buying retropi setups, just buy this and you have a console that has EVERYTHING you need. No need for a case, as it's clamshell. It's small enough to be pocketable, bit enough once opened. Has close-lid suspend mode! This is a DREAM.
I'd genuinely love for someone to finally make a DS like device that is actually competitive in the market.
So far, the best DS-like device for emulating is the Surface Duo. I had the first model, and it was good for ds, but not for 3ds. Some games worked, but most didn't.
Imo its best to use controller+phone in vertical mode to emulate that.
Or just buy a 2ds xl or something used.
So rg35xxsomething + 2ds xl + rog ally for everything newer (like ps2 or switch) would be a complete package.
Not that i have that much time to play lol. I'll just stick to 35xxsp, at least it's cheap lol.
I think the New 3DS still does everything I'd want for a DS like device... Except maybe Wii U... the possibilities
@TheNameIsSR 100% a 3ds is still the best. I was just recommending the Surface Duo as an all-in-one emulating device
I believe Aya Neo made a flip system.
If a kid bust out Marvel vs Capcom 2 on his GBA SP in 2005, my brain would have imploded.
😂😂😂
Sure, I'd like to see the heatsink mod!
Ya'll need to stop crying about analog sticks. Plenty retro handhelds out there that have them, including upcoming clamshells.
I, for one, salute anbernic for giving us a very familiar looking design by making this look as close to the GBA SP as possible.
Yeah, the joysticks on the Miyoo flip look uncomfortable
I hope Anbernic makes a NDS Lite replica. I would buy that instantly.
Ambernic: What have we always done well.
Public: The D-Pad
Ambernic: Yeah, that's not in this.
😂
Heatsink mod would be awesome! Girlfriend is always talking about how much she loved her SP. This sounds like the ultimate birthday gift for her.
They said heatsink kills the battery
For anyone wondering, Miyoo will soon release their own version with analog sticks ;)
Really? That's great!
I hope the performance is similar to this Anbernic one.
For a very vague value of "soon" and zero stock when they do as seen by the A30 still not having restocked beyond their first batch.
I feel like the "analog sticks" will have to sit pretty flush with the screen because of the clamshell design and not have much range of movement. That along with it being vertical and assuming that it keeps similar dimensions to the sp I just can't picture being very comfortable or practical to use and will just give it a more cluttered look overall.
I think anbernic picked the smarter way to do it. It keeps the simplicity and nostalgia of the old SP. I won't be heartbroken if I can't use it to play "Ape Escape". I'll stick to what the form factor works best for. 8 and 16 bit systems, with a smattering of those higher end ones.
@@ben66562 yep and the Miyoo A30 can barely run those systems anyways. If i wanna play a game that requires analog sticks I'll use actual nice analog sticks on a nice screen. For me extra processing power just means you can go crazy with shaders
Dropping a random piece of copper or aluminum in there is simply gonna spread out the heat underneath the battery and make it bulge more evenly. You need to move the heat away from the battery not distributed evenly underneath the battery.
Only issue I see with that is you’re going to have that heat laying more directly on battery and even less of an air gap. Even if it does disperse it better. I’d like to see tests on it with and without before I made that change myself.
in my country it gets very hot
and in this design with the battery right against the cpu/gpu with no heat shield or anything
im afraid if i go on a train trip and take out the rg35xxsp the battery will go boom after a while
Hot country here too. Specifically Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
@@MarcusIIFerreira weird thing is that the other rg35xx do have heat shields
@@Deathscythe91that's why I'm probably getting the H instead of this one. Sad. The noise buttons got me out too, as it'll bother my wife by a LOT. 😂
The design alone is worth the price, so I’ll grab this one. The clam shell SP is so nostalgic to me. I’d like to see the battery mod also.
3:17 Deja Vu... Something has changed in the matrix 😅
It's just a glitch in the Matrix! 😅
It's been a problem with ETA's editing for many years.
He forgot to edit that part lol
this is the retro handheld I've been waiting for
Iam extremely exited for the release! Can't wait to get my hands on it!
Just ordered my RG35XXSP in black. Can't wait to get it! Heatshield mod video please!
I want the silver.
2:33 I actually prefer dome switches, conductive pads always feel like it's not as responsive.
Agree, I love the clicky tactile feel of them
Only problem with that is the "wife sleeping next to me" issue, she feels every click lol
If they feel anything like the clicky d pad and buttons on my DSi XL I'm in love
@@bigemugamer I'm glad my wife sleeps with a fan next to her head lol
@@YoungSinai lol sweet, is she a sound sleeper? My wife needs rain sounds so I ripped a 10 hour rain track off a you tube video and play that every night, BUT... my wife has excellent night time hearing so even the clicking from the start button or shoulder buttons on my OG RG350 can disturb her, naturally I try to just play games that primarily use the A B X Y buttons as they use a rubber membrane.
My favorite form factor!!
SP was by far the best for the gameboy series. IMO.
Great review (as always). Can you provide a link to the cooler you plan to use in between the battery and the CPU please? Thank you!
They gotta be close to a DS emulator at this point. Would love one to play all of the Pokemon and Fire Emblem titles up to the DS versions.
Yup, would love one with a high res screen
It’s literally so cheap just to buy a dsi / dsi xl
@@james441 yeah, but an emulator that can increase the resolution of ds games would be really nice as well
@@christianr.5868 dsi xl is as good as it gets graphics wise
@@james441 you haven’t played ds at 4x resolution. Really cleans up the 3d objects and makes them look nice
fingers crossed the hinge is as robust as the Official SP. Got mine on release day, had it in my pocket(as a kid, way rougher than now!) for years and besides being a little loose it is still going strong!
I never knew my nostalgia button could be slapped this hard. I mowed lawns all summer to buy an SP when I was a little dude!
you should try to replace the tactile button pads with original gba tactile button pads and see if it makes the d pad and buttons feel more natural. personally i would love to know if that works, because i hate clicky, stiff buttons, but i really like this handheld design.
Thank you for your review, seems a good new console from anbernic. Does it support bluetooth controller that has analogue stick?
D-pad is always my hang up with the majority of these handhelds. Oh well, waiting for the next one. 🍻
Good to see you cover this my man 😎
This handheld bring lots of memories but Im still waiting for the miyoo flip.
Awesome video! Thanks allot.i have a question pls , can it play multiplayer through bluetooth?or online multiplayer?
I’d really like to see you mod things. Different modding projects would do well on this channel I think.
I actually think the grey one looks good! The silver is nice too tho
Would love to see that heatsink mod! It would teach me a lot more 😊
Micro SD card slot i so dual You said it twice ;p
He got emotional
Can't wait to get my hands on one.
I am going to teach Maths when this goes on sale (May 17th, 3 am PDT) but I will just give my students a lot of work so that I can order the blue transparic version on my phone.
They should be doing work anyway! :P
based teacher lol
Heatsink mod is sounding like a must have!
Great video. Heatsink mod would be awesome.
Does the game pause/sleep when the lid is close and auto resume when open the lid again?
Just got mine last week. I modded the buttons with tape to be less clicky but heatsink mod video would be awesome to see.
it's funny, I am actually hyped that it uses dome switches! I want it to feel just like my SP
i've ordered one and i'd love to see the heatsink mod because i want this thing to last as long as possible
Yes, *Heatsink Mod* video would be appreciated!
😊
I would definitely like to see mods on this. Like the copper base plate inbetween and a modified dpad. I think it would make a cool video cause I'm interested in this ever since the PowKiddy V90.
am i mistaken or did you remove the video about the heat sink mod for this??? i was just gonna rewatch since the heat sink just came just wanna know if you removed it because it caused an issue?
Yes, a copper plate that is insulated from eelectricity on both sides - would be a nice modification. Also need analogs, I understand that it will break the athenticity, but the functionality is more important.
Between the Plus and the SP which one is more comfortable to hold for extended time periods?
RG35XX SP + MinUI and I am happy.
Please make that video about the heatsink mode, it would be perfect
This will might be my favorite handheld of all time
Isn't it dangerous to but heat on to the Battery?
This looks great 😁
Hi,there ..please kindly make A video ,on how to add a cooler for this device and where to order them ,cz I also ordered one for myself, big thanks
Hi eta could u do a video on a budget egpu set up
Was the heat sink tutorial video removed ?
Excellent 👍
I just bought my own today and would love a video on the heatsink mod just incase it ends up being a problem in the near future
I'd love a small heat sink mod and like a thin piece of heat resistant material right under the battery to go in-between the two. I'll prolly figure something out too haha
Hi Prime, did you take down the video that you put the heatsink in for the chip??? I can't find it anymore?
he got flak for it since he basically moded it so the cpu heat goes directly into the battery, it is a safety hazard
So it is not recommended ?
@@josspe4342 don't heat up any lithium battery, don't deform it or cut it
Dome switches? Finally! I'd love to see heatsink mod on this device. please make video about it.
Now, THIS is a desirable handheld. I'm way back in the early 2000's, now. 👍
@ETA PRIME, Yesterday I saw a Heat Sink Mod for the RG35XXSP, but I can't find that video now.
I came for the video, but now I need the heatsink
Thanks in GB advance! Lol
they should added a link function to the game console for vs games
I bought all the parts you recommended for the heat sink mod now you've removed the video? Are you planning to re-upload after more safety/battery heat testing Prime?
Can you change that operating system to steamos
I'll probably do a button mod on this to make the switches like the GBA SP ones with the short travel.
Waiting patiently to see if he slips up in the video and says "Nintendo"
I can’t wait to buy it I’m gonna get a silver one and a blue one
Hi ETA! Plastic would be better than metal for protecting the battery. Metal will help move the heat into the battery, right?
If you use MuOS v11 you have the flycast extreme core. This will give you max. Speed for DC emulation.
I still have the original Game Boy Advance SP.
I lost mine in college.
I’d like to see the separator mod for the battery
Now I can fulfill my childhood fantasy of watching Shrek on my GBA SP 😂.
GBA movies were something lol. The Shrek one was like 7fps
defo want to see the mod on the CPU cooler/battery insulation
prolly gonna be a large flat aluminum or brass plate, Retro Game Corps reported there is space between the battery and CPU, the battery does not touch the CPU so a heat sink mod is very possible. =D
I would like to see the heatsink mod, I plan on doing it when I get mine.
It looks great, but I’m holding out for the Miyoo flip
Has BT capabilities. Which is handy, i would value this device if it sells at a much more reasonable lower price. Looking forward to Black Friday deals already.
58 dollars is pretty damn reasonable
This is great for 2d gaming upto PS1. I would love to an aluminium version of this. That would be crazy.
Another channel did a weight test on the buttons, comparing it to the GBA and other handhelds. These buttons are heavier, requiring more force. If they fix the buttons and Dpad, they'll have my money.
I have an honest question:
can i use a one handed Android controller the joystick only variety With the RG35XXSP?
Where did the heatsink mod video go?
Perfect for me 🤩
Excelente video 👍 saludos a todos desde San José del Cabo Baja California Sur México 🇲🇽🇲🇽👏👏
@ETA PRIME
Can you do emulation test on the brand new iPad Pro M4 Chip?
What about these heat stickers? Wouldnt that work?
Pre-orders begin Friday and I STILL don’t know what color I want 😢
I don't need it but God dam do I want it😍
I REALLY didn't need the black V90 the MINUTE it was available from powkiddy as I bought the OG RG350 6 months prior. but seeing as two $25 gift cards from my work paid for it... =)
Heatsink mod would be interesting for sure. I can't imagine how the battery would still fit in 🤔
Maybe a thin aluminum or copper plate like on low powered laptops can fit in. Or one of those stickers for NVME drives.
@@gustavovm491 Thermal pads might be too thick but they are elastic. Thin copper plates (1mm) are available on amazon, not that cheap but ok pricing. But I cant take measurements atm, obsviously
@@gustavovm491 I also wonder if anything can shortcut if you just put a thin plate of copper between CPU and battery. Conductivity is a thing after all.
Okay, I gotta know if there's a legit way to run Android on this retaining Bluetooth. Would love to hook this up to the standalone ECU in my car. Iykyk 😂
I really like your videos, but would you consider doing them on a gray background instead of a migraine inducing white background?
i definitely need one with a little thumb stick, even an OG PSP style sliding thumbstick would have been acceptable. Specifically for PSP and n64 games.
Some of the PSP games i play require the thumb stick so that's just a deal breaker. Shame too, since i really like the fold up formfactor. I can stuff it in my purse without having to worry about the screen.
Same. There's a Miyoo Mini Flip floating around somewhere that has joysticks on it but we'll see if it ever materializes.
Big difference is original SP didn’t have an audio jack for….courage?
Hey ETA Prime, I see you teardown the device, is this hard to get the shell away from the screen or other parts you don’t show here? Is a DIY of the shell should be possible?
ouf.. the battery sitting right on top of the CPU does not spark confidence
I just setup the rgxx35+ and thought it's all i needed.. then this drops
Yup, that was me when I bought the OG RG350 late after it's unveiling... only to see a leaked grainy video 3 hours later announcing the METAL RG350M. =(
Thank god these things are relatively inexpensive.
I have one of those as well. I’m going to buy the SP now.
I wanted to see it hooked up to a TV and hear your opinion on that
ETA could literally poop on this product and I’d get it. This is the coolest looking thing from anbernic, if I need to mod it to get it to last I am okay with that
sticking copper there would just move more heat towards the battery i think
