Darn It Vancouver Carpenter.........Now I have to invest in the Planex so I can make my remodel job sparkly.......As I’ve prior posted on your blog that your tips helped me coat in my entry door and I used my regular Festool sanders and the Bad dust sucker Hepa vac c26. I love it. Glad you have posted so I can be better at my drywall ....

We didn't do thing quiet like you do, sometimes we were lucky to just get to the bottom of the hill. Although! Loved going off ramps (ski jump type). Never broke anything, but came darn close. Frigg, I hate sanding. I have to sand a reno i've been doing tomorrow, and i'm really not looking forward to it. Yet here I am, literally watching Ben sand out his final coat. Love ya, Ben. You're a drywall god.
I like the idea of sticking paper onto a cheap angled knife. I'll probably just use adhesive backed paper though. Stick it on and trim it to the knife on both sides and bob's your auntie-- at least in theory. Thanks for the idea ;) Of course you could just get the Festool detail sander which will hook right up to your vacuum. I've thought about that but the price was a bucket of ice water, at least for me. I do find I make a lot more dust touching up than I do using the big sander itself. So I have to vac the floors along the walls and especially in the corners before I shoot and back roll the primer on. I've pretty much given up on getting a perfect finish when sanding. I prime everything and then All the defects stand up like a toad in the road. It's an extra step, but I've never been called back I just price it into the job and if that's a problem I take a pass on that one.

Ever thought about doing the edge on that taping knife like a card scraper? Haven't done it yet but I'm gonna definitely try that myself I think it would be the best way to make stupid sharp corners. As long as you know how to sharpen a cabinet scraper of course. But if you don't you can cheat but using a fine file and do a few flat passes at 90° and you'll get a edge bigger file the easier to make keep it flat. This worked good for me until I learned how to properly sharpen a thin piece of metal. Only issues it isn't as durable of a edge but back to the file and on the go again. Great video and nice big spin

I gave that a long time ago because my first experience on one I went flying off the thing going downhill fast and landed on my bare chest resulting in tearing off a nipple! yep that did it... done. oh btw they grow back, i didn't know that at the time. still hurt. a lot!
Have one since December 2020, don't like the light, you see to much imperfections which makes you sand to much off if you go by the light showings. I prefer to leave the light off and use a separate light under 30° angle. Other than the light, the machine is great.

I bought other generic pole Sanders unfortunately they were ridiculously heavy and they do not last very long. Have to porter-cable have never worn out, other than the sticking pad flying off. People do break their spindle on the porter cable, by lingering in one area and using at the 90 degree, which is not good for the machine. I always power sand, then hand sand check things over, always. The ring light might not be the best thing for pre-painted walls, because it will be too tempting to keep going over the same spot. On a painted wall this very quickly melts the paint and blunts the cutting power of the disc to zero. .

I got the Festool/CSI inspection light a couple years ago. What a humbling experience! My friends don’t want me to bring it around anymore because it shows EVERY blemish. The illuminated Planex with on-tool oblique lighting is a much more elegant solution. I’m considering gluing a LED strip and battery onto my old Planex. I’m reluctant to buy the new Planex but I like the new Systainer and the power and vacuum connections seem a little better. It looks like version 2 doesn’t come with a harness for doing ceilings, unlike the original. Do you see this being an issue? Thanks for the demo.
Love the videos ! Have question, purchased a home few years back, the garage has taped joints and nails have be covered. Some areas are so dry tapes falling apart and I can see rust on the nails. Should I attempt to make repairs or just strip it all and start over?
It's probably just fire taped.Rip all that old tape off.Knock down the rough edges.Backfill everything with EasySand.Knock down any burrs.Mesh tape using Easy sand.From there you can switch to an all purpose,but personally I would just keep using the easy sand.Make sure you use some kind of sealer like 1 2 3 or Killlz.As far as the nail holes go if they aren't sunk or proud they are fine,if they are use the easy sand to fill those too.
I'm a taper. Have always had issues with pin holes when working on beat up painted surfaces that need 2-3-4 heavy skim coats. Any help would be apreciated.
Hey I've seen you hand tape a lot of stuff and I hang and finish drywall in the states and me and my coworkers use a banjo taper and it is so easy and much faster than using a tape buddy or just cutting the tape with a knife. If you see this please give it a try.
So in you humble opinion, do you think it's worth purchasing for final sanding? Of coarse I'd still go behind and fine tune by hand but if it's good enough I could replace pole sanding and hopefully speed the process up sanding wise and cleanup wise
Like I said, they need an upgrade to the sanding pad to make it better for lightweight muds but if I was doing this full time again I would not hesitate to buy one. Gotta charge a little more to pay off though :)

in the uk we find a spatula (ox speed skim etc) almost guarantees zero bubbles, but we tend to 2 coat with plaster and flatten between each coat.
plaster and drywall mud are totally different animals when it comes to bubbles.

Have you ever tried a variable speed orbital sander with a vacuum attachment? Even for finish sanding, it's excellent!
Don't forget with the pole sander, always sand the long way or you will get head flip.

Took me about 3-4 months to get the hang of using the sander. But now I look back and think how did I do this before.
I even pulled it out on 5’s

You can still use the harness with the new one. But the ceiling suction takes even more weight off than the old Planex.
