In this video, I will reveal what plot points got censored in Story of Yanxi Palace, as well as why the palace harem drama got eventually banned from airing in China.
What a damn shame so much was cut. I guess I know why I was a bit confused on some storylines. The storyline of the dowager getting struck by lightning came off as super corney to me, like God helped Yinglou. Sewing metal threads into the curtains to attract the lightning..now that's acceptable. If they re-released this show internationally, uncut, it would bring in big money. I would totally watch it again!
@jennifergarnatz6860 Very difficult language to learn. I have been watching C dramas for about 4 years now. I can pick out different words but nowhere near able to speak it. Now, if I were a child, I would be speaking it fluently. Lol watched my very young daughter learn Japanese by watching anime.. Amazing how fast children learn. Best wishes 🙂
@@y-mefarm4249 Agree with you. Kids learn faster. However, u should never stop learning it. Great exercise for the brain. Better than doing crossword puzzles. I plan to continue learning it for the rest of my life. I can already write the script with a pen very well. Practise with the brush occssionally. Hv an inkstone and 3 different type of brushes. Concentrated on the calligraphy since I know it would take years to speak it fluently, and only if I had a private tutor. Mastering the calligraphy, I can always write a question when in China and show someone rather than mispronouncing the tones. I always feel proud of myself whenever I can understand short sentences. I often replay certain scenes to give my ear training. It's a very fascinating language. Had actually started learning Japanese then switched to Mandarin after I learnt Hiragana & Katakana scripts then had to learn Kanji. So, I thought better to first learn Mandarin since it's compulsory to learn Hanzi in order to master writing Japanese.
Me too , but I have a but my favorites are real kung fu films/series and wuxia hahaha they are fabulous, I don't like romance because these princesses cry too much and do the voice of a 7 year old child when she is already 16, 18 years old, it's ridiculous, me It's irritating because it's like cats being pulled by the tail, the kind that cries every minute! haha, sorry, but no, sorry
I absolutely loved The Story of Yangzi Palace with Wei Yinglou. She was such a smart character, loved the empress she served. She fell in love but the emperor refused to let him marry her, instead he had Er Qing marry him as a way of letting Yinglou stop being punished. Yinglou eventually fell in love with the emperor and had children with him but she would always love her soldier (empresses’ brother) . The plots of some of these concubines were so scary and deadly. Very long series but I guess them cutting out some scenes made sense. We all knew that Er Qing’s son wasn’t her husband’s.
Netflix has a follow up story featuring the son called Princess of Yangzi Palace. Worth watching, just wished it featured more of the original cast as well and.... you know, longer. Netflix likes things short.
These deleted scenes would have made yanxi palace even better than it already is because of its depth and development but oh well yanxi palace is one of my favourite series ever it doesn’t matter😂
Yanxi Palace was my introduction into Asian Drama movies and so it holds a special place in my heart. I absolutely loved it and have rewatched it 3 times. If it ever comes out in the original uncut version I will certainly watch it again.
Thank you for the info, now the story makes so much more sense! The lightning this always seemed to me such an over-the-top plot device, with the deleted scene it is very logical. I think that the question about Fuca`s kid is kind of resolved in the spin-off of the series, The Princess Adventures.
It would be interesting to do one regarding "Ruyi's Royal Love In The Palace" which, in my opinion, was a far better series. But I have read that while Ruyi's Royal Love spent huge amounts on money for the Principle actors as well as set/costume designs Yanxi Palace was actually seen as more Historical in terms of the same. These two shows were produced close to one another so I wonder why the Chinese Government did not apply the same treatment or perhaps it did?
To be honest, neither are absolutely historically accurate in terms of costume design in terms of the right time period. Qianlong's court did not have the elaborate hair pieces shown in either shows, with Ruyi zhuan's hairstyle showing more of a late qing dynasty feel and Yanxi's showing a hairstyle 100 years after Qianlong's time. Both shows have different accuracies and inaccuracies in terms of costume design, with Ruyi's more accurate to the manchu style of clothing while yanxi's having more accurate in terms of hair style. The most accurate hairstyle to the time period within Yanxi is the Weiyingluo's hair when she was a guiren. The dapantou is the hair style of the consorts back then but it is not as exciting as the bigger hair pieces. Yanxi's costume however, is more han-styled compared to Ruyi zhuan's more accurate manchu style.
I loved Ruyi’s but it’s not one I can rewatch much. It’s gets so sad at the end. I realize in the real story it was sad but it’s hard to watch more than a few times
Ruyi was the one that was first removed from airing due to its significant deviation from historical accuracy, particularly in its negative and purely fictional portrayal of well-liked historical figures such as Empress Xiaoxian, Consort Ling, Fuheng, and General Zhaohui. Additionally, it featured numerous graphic and violent scenes, especially those depicting the torture of women. After Ruyi was taken down, Yanxi was also taken off the air as it bore facial similarities to Ruyi. However, while these shows themselves were removed from official platforms, they haven't been entirely ”censored” as plenty (I really mean PLENTY) of derivative works, critiques, video essays, songs, fan fictions, and raw footage are still widely accessible on Chinese internet platforms.

Best drama; best storyline; best writer; best director; best editor; best casting; best flowing scenes; best actors/actress - matched their parts! Poor ending...
Interesting to learn of so much censoring of one of my favorite c dramas, I remember when I first saw it that the scene of the eunuch strangling chun fei was shown, but when I watched it again months later that scene was gone. Thanks for explaining it..
This is my first experience with Chinese drama. I love it so much and so addictive I keep watching it over and over again. Sometimes I see something new that I didn’t see the many times I watched it previously. The acting is wonderful especially the two main characters, empera and Yinglou as they mature over a long period of time .
This is so interesting to know... I hope more harem dramas are allowed to be produced in the future... I first got into C dramas from Ruyi, but Yanxi palace was second and became my favourite. Always hoping to find other dramas which have the same feel...
Can not believed I was robbeddddd 😩 i deserve to see the remaining episodes I had so many questions that confused me but at least I know why. I will definitely be rewatching because who ever wrote this amazing piece is just amazing.
Saw it a couple of times to try and catch all the intricacies of the plots. Sorry to hear some storylines were cut. The partyline censorships is one of the most frustrating aspects of loving Cdramas. That and when they suddenly decide to cancel the release of a completed drama for actions deemed unacceptable by one of the actors.
out of all the drama's I've watched, this one is my absolute fav! Wei Yinglou will always be my favorite female lead. The actress is a real beauty! I always wondered about the ties between Gao and Wei Yinglou's sister, and why it was ever mentioned and never shown or talked about it more.
This drama was my first into Chinese story lines.Loved it, sometimes difficult because translations were often covered up also story skits mixed up. But great acting & costumes& hair styles
So how many episodes did this show have originally? As in actually shot? Is it possible to find the uncut version anywhere? Or the directors destroyed the deleted scenes?
This drama really teach how the sneak strategy every concubine used to gain favour from the emperor. Every language is not direct and contain deep meaning, every gestures have meaning and purpose, the way each and every concubine compete among each other is very awesome and amazing, multi techniques and multitactics have been employed. I enjoy watching this drama because i was amazed with the language that have been used and utterred, all are not common words but with complex meaning, objectives and purpose. Least i know how was life of concubines in frobidden city. Every concubine live with fear every second, fear of losing emperor favour which leads to losing job and life. I dont understand mandarin, i used available substitle
Now it's answered my curiousities about many events in Story of Yanxi Palace that seems unrelated between any arcs, especially the Dowager Yu's irrational death. But Er Qing's death, i already watched it on TH-cam. Noble Chun's death is kinda tragic because she's killed by the evil empress Nara whom she considered her friend before.
Every Country has censorship over media, be it for the domestic market or wider afield. It's understandable. This depiction of 16thCentury China was absolutely sublime in every way. I'm not particularly upset at not seeing graphic scenes of murder, I would however have liked to see the episodes in chronological order.
It was Yanxi Palace that got me hooked on Asian dramas. I was so tired of western tv and movies I began to watch foreign shows and found Yanxi Palace. I loved it. I liked the idea that they took seriously all the crazy medicinal “knowledge” of that time as if it were true. Some of the weird things they believed was entertaining and played it as if it were true science. The other drama I loved was Royal Feast. Great show as well.
We actually do see how Noble Consort Chun died. We don’t get the scene, but we are shown a bloody kite string and (I forgot who) someone reporting that she died from strangling. It’s the reason why Yinglou still created kites even after knowing Chun was strangled with a kite string as stopping in the creation of kites would place more blame on herself and to others meant she feels guilty.

Yanxi Palace: Princess Adventures is a spinoff about Zhaohua, Yingluo's daughter. It reveals the affair Erqing had with her brother-in-law (unfortunately already spoiled in the video)
I remembered a part they mentioned the director cut off many scenes (some of them are good scenes) hence the storylines they released officially a bit mismatch in some scenes.
This drama started me on my love of all of them. I have now watched dozens and dozens. My last favourite - Till the End of the Moon. American block busters could learn a lot from the quality of these dramas.
Although, at times, the gratuitos evilness of many of The Story of Yanxi Palce's cherictors are hard to watch, 😮 it is regrettable that some episodes were sensored. ❤This drama❤ 🎉 is so well written, acted, & produced 🎉 that it can be termed an understudy to different types of evil that are a part of the human condition. Although the extreme sides of most of the focal points about the human condition are brought to life, they are food for thought. The indepth knowledge of the subject by the written & the ultra artistic abilities of the production team gives one an eye opening awareness of evil, of the survival skills of those under duress, of the value of peacefulness, & of the resilience of most humans who suffer trials & tribulations. Hopefully, one day, if the sensored episodes still exist, they will be released for public viewing.
I watch both Ruyi's Royal Love and the Story of YanXi Palace. I find that the character Consort Ling varies very much in how she looks. In Ruyi's Royal Love she is portrayed as a beautiful seductress, yet she is a scheming, cold-hearted woman. Her lover, Lord Ling, was a stepping stone even though she gave her heart to him. In the Story of YanXi Palace, Wei Ying Luo is portrayed as a naive and outspoken young girl who enters the palace playing pranks on the harem and the Emperor. She is not equal to his first Empress in terms of beauty. Also, her close romantic relationship with the Empresses brother from Fuca is not similar to the relationship of Lord Ling and concubine Ling. The two movies have two different perspectives of this particular female character. According to history, the Emperor QianLong sired six (6) children with concubine Ling, who became his third Empress posthumously.
I always though that china was cool with it because its shows far removed decadence and foolish ways in a drama. China is far too sensitive, this is a great series.
their government is so insanely intrusive. SO glad to be American...and can watch Yanxi Palace as uch as I want. BUT, they never should have cut it down..I would have loved all the back stories of Consort Gao, Consort Chun, and Chenbi...more intricate insights into their fictional characters....LOVE LOVE LOVE Yanxi Palace, as well as Empresses in the Palace, and Ruyi, which was horrifically tragic....And, if you like Sun LI who the lead in Empresses...watch Nothing Gold Can Stay..you'll cry and cry and cheer her endlessly..Superb actress. As is Zhao Zhun, star of Ruyi.
A lot of the reasons for being cut are actually quite understandable. Some of the drama series can be spoilt by lengthy boring fillers and subplots. The political correctness is pandering to the sensitive discrimination subjects. Mega budgets, lavish costumes and grand backgrounds are extravagants, but audiences love it, they are the main attractions. Violent deaths might be distressing for guardians of young children. Basing on historical events, with enormous helpings of artistic license makes the story more interesting, but might upset members of the certain clans. Many of the subplots were patched with gross over off the scene conversations, and violent scenes replaced with shadows and thunderclaps.. But it’s good to let us know the cuts and the reasons behind them. Still, I wish they would release the uncut version.
Wish I could watch it in sequence. I accidentally discovered it on Utube and watched it not in sequence. I also find the translation terrible but fortunately most of the time I can figure out what they mean to say.
I loved this show, I was sorry that they no longer make Palace Dramas anymore. I do not think the series would have been served by having so many episodes, sometimes dramas have so much filler you're tempting to skim.
Everything was perfect except why Wei Yinglou never aged Abit until the end.Although the story ended,I still want to watch more I am gonna miss them all, especially the Emperor,my favorite 😊
It is ironic that I watched this during covid. I like historical productions, and this suited me. However, I managed to watch the Korean series "Dong yi " another historical drama just before it. After which I realised historically certain figures in these drama's over lapped! ......and then Netflix produced Yanxi Palace: Princess adventures!.....
Forcing someone to drink poison. Too graphic to be shown. 🙄 Oh my, I guess the older generations were all harmed very badly by older dramas and films that showed such a deed. Oh, now I understand why Chinese period dramas nowadays are supernatural godly flying circuses. When I think of a much much older Chinese period drama of Empress Wu Zetian that's pretty loaded with historical fidelity , it's a wonder it was made but back then, there were no zealous watchmen working on an agenda.
Palast Yanxi has in my country on Netflix only 6 ep., if you mean the same drama. If it is, then it explains the gaps in the story cause the cuts are not really logical. 🤔

That was hilarious 😂 speaking about the cold palace, Li Yu had encouraged her to bring money but she didnt and guess what? She had to use money lol 💀 and even after learning about how money is important to people who do not have power, she decided to dock her servants' salaries for her child's blessings LIKE HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORKKK shouldn't she be the one who's forking out the money?? Her servants need money for their fams, which includes tian lao lao who then decided to help wei yan wan exactly because of this. The supporting actresses tho!! Jin yu yan looked so genuinely heartbroken when her maid was punished but then ruyi let suo xin serve her when her hands were hurt 💀
P.S. havent seen anyone talk about this but it's so ironic that the emperor said that he disliked wei yan wan but still promoted her and let her serve him
Thanks goodness i got to see this drama here in my country. Loved it!
Best drama; best storyline; best writer; best director; best editor; best casting; best flowing scenes; best actors/actress - matched their parts! Poor ending...
how sad is the ending? ik fuca die and such, and i think the empress will die because she is too perfect.
While watching the series we get the feeling that some parts are edited, understand the reason now still the drama was captivating to watch
Guess the current govt thinks palace is shameful to outside as it showed how China was then
Are you watching "The Double?" It's not harem life but It's the same Yanxi FL in this new drama. Really good.
If you guys watched Yanxi Palace Princess Adventure you will see the reveal of Fuca Fukkangs origins.
One of my favorite dramas!!
One of my fav … give it a try to watch and you won’t regret, from start to finish worth to watch
Some of the plots came out later on the small miniseries which explains the fate of some of the characters.
Can not believed I was robbeddddd 😩 i deserve to see the remaining episodes I had so many questions that confused me but at least I know why. I will definitely be rewatching because who ever wrote this amazing piece is just amazing.
Ahhh, now I understand why it's been talked about in the drama, but not shown...
Love how she smiles, laughs, jokes around
This was my first Chinese drama ❤ now I'm hooked 😅
Love this drama, watched it so many times. Every single episode (70) is awesome. Recommend everyone watch.
This drama was my first into Chinese story lines.Loved it, sometimes difficult because translations were often covered up also story skits mixed up. But great acting & costumes& hair styles
I LOVE this drama... one of the best writings ever...
So how many episodes did this show have originally? As in actually shot? Is it possible to find the uncut version anywhere? Or the directors destroyed the deleted scenes?
Watched it twice. Remarkable drama.
This is the first drama that I watched and it got me hooked on watching other dramas. This was my first time seeing Xu Kai.
Great show as well.
yes rub some dried orange peels on your hand and it won't be fractured anymore.
Yanxi palace and Empress of China gave me the inspiration for my fantasy book saga... It's such a waste not exploring more the imperial harem
yanxi palace with eng subs got removed from youtube 😭
For reallllll, i watch yanxi palace like everyday. When i found out it got removed, i am extremely sad. I feel youuuu😢😢😢😢
@@daisies-all-day UPDATEEE China Huanyu the OFFICIAL producer of yanxi palace is now OFFICIALLY uploaded their episodes of yanxi palace. Im so prouddd and this is amazinggg for Huanyuu

Are you on to "The Double" yet? Same FL kicking butt in this series...
Hopefully, one day, if the sensored episodes still exist, they will be released for public viewing.
i love the costumes and settings
Fantastic production !
I'm now at episode 38 and i'm hooked!🤗🤗
Honestly... Sometimes you need lo let stories get as long as they want and have all the scenes because that will make it even better
Thanks for your info and yes the series isnt allowed to do rerun on state tv and yet the show took Asia by storm
Fu Heng didn't r*pe Wei Ning. The Emperor's brother, 5th prince (Hong Yao's character) did.
Yeah Yanxi palace is closer to history.
Loved this Drama. It's sad that it was censured. This drama got me hooked on Chinese Drama. This filled some holes for me about the story at least.
You should watch Empress in the palace. It’s excellent series and has over trillions viewers.
Sound of the Desert can't be found with English subtitles anywhere. I have a whole list of dramas that I can't find. This is so irritating.
I always though that china was cool with it because its shows far removed decadence and foolish ways in a drama. China is far too sensitive, this is a great series.
They did us dirty Not showing the whole story line!! This was a fantastic show
"Yanxi Palace" was a web app drama in the first place, not publicly released on TV hence some plots they actually got away with
Oh I wish they would release the missing episodes!!!!!
their government is so insanely intrusive.
No sé si vendan las series en DVD o blu ray, que contenga escenas y episodios eliminados, sería muy bueno 🤞🙏
No wonder, I have seen any new dramas. Sad really with new technology it would be really nice to see.
They should release the censored one ❤
I loved this drama
I loved this show, I was sorry that they no longer make Palace Dramas anymore. I do not think the series would have been served by having so many episodes, sometimes dramas have so much filler you're tempting to skim.
I love this drama. I am watching it again for the 3rd time.
Love Yangzi Palace..watched it three times.❤️👍🌹🥰
Everything was perfect except why Wei Yinglou never aged Abit until the end.Although the story ended,I still want to watch more I am gonna miss them all, especially the Emperor,my favorite 😊
It is absolutely amazing! I was sad it ended
I loved this show very much.
This ruled my 2018 summer
How did you got the censorship
I would love to watch how Er Qing actually met her end. Never mind the supposedly 'violence' the scene may portray. I really couldn't care less!😅
Seems like ryues royal love kinda got better, ending when it comes to drama
Sadly, this show didn’t catch my attention for the show. But it’s Ruyi’s Love in the Royal Palace.
The series is lovely and great actors did their best in portraying their craft... amazing 🇨🇳 production 🎥
Btw, is "Ryui royal love in the palace" about the same time period?
Yes
Yes, same emperor/empress/concubines. Difference is how Ruyi/Consort Xian is portrayed as heroine instead of Yingluo.
hi :) Yanxi Palace: Princess Adventures is the spin-off to Story of Yanxi Palace. They're not the same show. You can watch Story of Yanxi Palace on Viki or here on YT with subtitles :).
@@cloversformrdarcy okay, thx. The spin of makes not much sense without the whole story. Then I will watch it 🙂
@@Nemi-pp2zs yes, the parent story gives a whole lot more context on everything. the spin off is cute, but the og is on another level! :)
