    Hi! I am thinking about getting canon c300 mkii for a documentary like film. I really hope to shoot handheld. Could you be so kind to recommend any low budget lens which would be light and also prevent extra shaking? I would really appreciate it since I have close to zero experience with film cameras (I have been using canon dslr for my personal projects). Thank you so much in advance!

    Hey Caleb, How does the system frequency work? I know it is 24hz 50hz and 59hz. Does this have anything to do with the framerate?

    Good video. I have the XC10 and live in greater LA if ya want to try it out. It's quite the little power house.

    How did you guys manage to get face detection and tracking on the 70-200, doesn't work for me. Canon seem to only have the feature for a few cheap lenses.

    I bought a c300 ii about 3 weeks ago. It was a massive step forward that was well worth it. Over the years I have used many canon DSLRs and the XF series video cameras so it was a lateral switch.
    The build quality is excellent and it is well thought out. The image quality is awesome the 10bit is a nice step forward. The auto focus is excellent and well designed.
    JUST DO IT!!! as at some point you have to move your game forward.
    Also I forgot to mention I have 16 canon lenses I use.
    That said I have no complaints.

      +Scott King That's great to hear. Planning to use it on a full project as a rental or borrow before deciding. Thanks for the feedback.

    you could get a ursa mini it has a canon ef mount since you have all those canon lenses, plus the image from that camera is beautiful

      +Da graphix Yeah, I'm wanting to get my hands-on one to test out using it & see how the footage comes out. If I do, I'll make a video for the channel about it.

    Hey quick question do u think i will be ok recording with my Canon 5DS and the 70-200 2.8 II I'm think about getting another set maybe a black magic camera or the new Red camera for around 6000. But i think i can get by with my 5DS i dont have any lights. I just want to do youtube. What do u think i should do?

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JMJ Yes, you can definitely use that set-up for video. Take whatever money you would spend on a BMC or RED and get quality audio and lighting equipment.

    Which camera did you buy? Did you go with the c300 markii?

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm still using the C100 Mark II. Holding off on upgrading.

    • @suuperchlap
      @suuperchlap 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you consider the c300 markii not being good enough, or you simply have no need to upgrade right now?

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Martin Grof No need to upgrade to a $16,000 camera for 4K and higher bit-rates at the moment.

    Thanks for this. Really dig the vlog commentary. I'm kinda in a similar situation as you. I'm a Canon user debating between a C300 vs. FS7. I just can't get over the price difference. $16K?

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FINDLAYSEASON Yeah, it is a really big difference...

      Or you can get the RED Raven that can shoot up to more than 150fps at 2K and RED is known for its unmatched picture quality

      Salsa Colombia Yeah, that is one of the cameras I mentioned that I'm considering. The Scarlett-W is in a similar price range too.

      I challenge anyone to build any usable RED camera package for anywhere near $16K... not gonna happen!

      I just picked up a RED Scarlett-W and I'll breakdown exactly what I got. Ended up being over $16k, but it was possible before they bumped up the price of the brain by $2,500.

    I filmed with one of these this weekend and my footage looks as grey and lifeless as your's does... any tips? Never had to work color correction so much in my life, hue, etc.

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was probably filmed in Canon Log or Wide DR, with a flat gamma curve. I have the perfect video for you to get started with grading flat Log footage like that: th-cam.com/video/gzN_aqfyp9o/w-d-xo.html
      You can do similar things right in Premiere or FCPX too if you edit with those.
      Here's my Premiere color grading tutorial: th-cam.com/video/DW2yUF_QErE/w-d-xo.html
      Here's my FCPX color correcting tutorial: th-cam.com/video/D7gL8uePd9c/w-d-xo.html

      this neutral look is desired for higher end cameras because it's more ideal for color grading and general post production process. this is why I'm leaning towards getting the canon 1dx mark II instead. The color is more vibrant with minimal post work.

      +Caleb Wojcik thank you so much for this, it was driving me crazy. Editing in Final Cut Pro, went to info, selected the Canon log & grey is gone! still requires lots of correction, but a week of insanity solved! I just didn't know about log files and it was really hard for a n00b to learn! appreciate this so much!

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Matthew Brown I haven't bought anything yet. Still want to use some of the other options (Sony FS7, RED Raven, etc.) before I make that big of an investment. My C100 Mark II works well for what we do now.

    • @mattbrownstar
      @mattbrownstar 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roger that. I'm still on the fence about what I should buy next. I know I want 4K and slo mo but it's hard to spend 18K on the canon when the FS7 is half the cost. The thing is I love Canon... Like you I also am heavily invested in Canon glass and I've also been shooting with the C100 and C100mk2 since they came out. I love their layout and menu for it's speed and ease of use. Before these cameras I was a Sony guy but now I don't want to go back to Sony. Anyways let me know what you end up buying, I'd love to hear about your experience.

    Caleb - What do you think now that the C500 has dropped to $9999?

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bill Nichols I see that as a sign that the mark ii is coming soon. You do need an external recorder on the C500 to get anything but proxy's, but if you're cool with that workflow, that is a great deal.

    A Red Raven seems like a great option for you at that price point

    • @CalebWojcik
      @CalebWojcik  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Louie Kotler Yeah, that is one of the main options I'm considering. I really like the physical buttons and ergonomics of a Canon Cinema camera though + the post-production workflow is much faster than with a RED. All things I'm considering. :)

    • @LouieKotler
      @LouieKotler 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Caleb Wojcik True, I see where you're going with that. The Red relies mostly on using the touch screen and the cube shape isn't the most ergonomic thing I've seen.
