Perhaps like many of your viewers, at age 80, I am one generation removed from a family farm, where I spent summers in my youth. That family farm was in southern Illinois, (vicinity of Sparta, Campbell Hill, Ava, Red Bud, etc., how I do love these old names!) and I can remember driving the tractor at age nine during the baling. This TH-cam channel is a great blessing to an old man.
I spent my youth in Red Bud, Waterloo, Valmeyer and Dupo areas...all along Route 3. You have 18 years on me but living amongst farmers and ranchers while growing up...absolutely the best! This channel brings back all those wonderful memories❤
I have used Kats circulating tank heaters for years on older tractors, easy to install, and work good,I would suggest changing the hydraulic oil and any filters or screens on your case, cheap maintenance
I grew up running Case tractors, 730s and their gas brothers, the 741 on a small dairy farm in upstate NY. Those old girls were workhorses, just hour after hour of field work. They also had an old SC and a 700, and later the bigger 1070s. I'm always on the prowl for an old one, mainly for nostalgia of course. The only problem I remember with them is, as you've pointed out, the old diesels sure don't like the cold lol. Keep the videos up, love your place and videos!
Hay Evan cool to see you work on the good old case tractor its amazing how good those old tractors run when you keep up with the maintenance on them thank you for sharing blessings to you and your family oh have fun at your date night blessings
I always like to see you working on the tractors Evan. I got a kick out of the minor little screw ups because we all have them and when we laugh with you, we laugh at ourselves. Thanks for all you do to create this content and I’m hoping you and Rebeckah have a wonderful Christmas!!
You couldn't say it better. They are fun to watch because we all have those things happen to us. Like not realizing your car key fob has opened the trunk and now the battery has died. Life is like that.
When I was 15 I worked for a farmer ! The tractor I got to use was a Case , looked yours , forgot to put fuel in it after lunch, it died I tried to restart it started to run In reverse and blew oil out the air breather !!!! I about died , I was afraid I blew it up , I went and told the farmer ,He was not happy with me at all !!!! I never did that again !!!! I LOVED FARMING !!!
We had a case tractor at our oil patch similar to yours... No glo plug... and we used ether every time... brake cleaner works the exact same as ether if you're in a pinch
We use ether for our diesel tractors and skid steers all the time. It's highly combustible and will work in any engine that I know of. Works wonders definitely recommend for older diesel engines. Not so sure how well the new piles of junk would like ether.
If the tractor had non detergent oil in it you should probably clean the pan out. If nothing else, change it after a short time. Non-detergent oils do not suspend the debris, they allow it to settle to the bottom. This would be good for your oil bath air filter. Be careful with the starting fluid both gas and especially diesel. You can get an over rev or fuel wash if you're not careful. A block heater that heats the water would be your best choice.
Lol the old saying about CASE tractors is CANT AFFORD SOMETHING ELSE but I am an old man and I have owned 8 case tractors in my life that I used on the farm and I loved them. The 930 I had for many years and it was one of the best tractors I ever owned. I am a farmall fan and I have restored many of them over the years. I know people love the John deere but I only love the old ones 50s jd 60 73o or the 4o20. I know a lot of people in my area have gone RED lately.
Yep, looks like the Ol' CASE was due for some service work. I think I would've kept the Farmall 806 but, I'll admit that I'm a little partial to the Farmalls. LOL I've had better luck with the type of block heater that heats the engine coolant. Keep up the good work there. Merry Christmas to you & your family.
I am a fan of old tractors, and once restored it will serve you for many years,as old as it is and still runs tells you how well they are made,as with any equipment storing out of the elements helps protect it ,also for safety sake please put on some fenders, God bless
Hey Evan ,Floor jacks are our friends. Please use them don't hurt yourself trying to lift that hunk of iron back into place and remember the old saying work smarter not harder
I have been watching you for a long time and look forward to your videos. I very seldom comment on anything, but this reminded me of my youth and helping daddy start an old Oliver diesel. These older tractors have lasted a long time and will probably out last new tractors with all that emission junk on them. I enjoyed the good memories that this has brought back. I enjoy your channel, keep up the good work. Thank you
Power steering issue. My power steering has been squealing when turning from a slow or non moving position. I changed the belt the other day to a 7320 XL Gates belt. I have always thought it was a power steering problem, but am now thinking it has been a belt issue all along. I drove it around for a few minutes afterwards and no squealing so far.Gates claims that the hotter the belt gets the better it grips. Mine is a 830, so you may check and see if yours is the same length. I just crossed from the number that was on the old belt. May give that a try .
Could you but black tape around the red band then you or anyone else will now it’s not live mate just saying that’s all but you know better than me mate great video as always all the best mate to you all. That’s amazing I was going to say to use that
We have old equipment a wail back I changed the seat out on one the most enjoyable upgrades I have ever done. Need a seat for the other one for sure know 😂
Those old 730 CASE tractors are good tractors. My Dad had one. In my opinion the 30 series CASE were the best looking tractors of any make ever. I can't see a reason it wouldn't hook up to your blade unless it has the eagle claw hitch, which was the CASE version of 3 point hitch. It's your tractor but I really think it would look awesome restored someday. The d 17 is a really cool tractor too btw.
Detergent oil is not recommended for older tractors because of all the slug that will be left in the motor A multi viscosity nondetergent motor oil Either is very hard on spark plug work much with diesel engines and don't use a over abundance of it
U 😊😊 got the oil changed and oil bath air cleaner 2 the next U should change are the fuel filters it's no telling the last time they were changed 😮😮 unless U know the tractor history of it 😊😊 diesel tractor fuel filters U always pre fill them w diesel fuel when U can U might still have 2 bleed the injectors U take a wrench and loosen them 2 bleed the air out 😊😊 and there should be clear diesel fuel w no air bubbles then retighten the injector lines 😊😊 U should always block up a tractor w rail road ties so it can't fall 😊😊 12 6 2O23
Its actually the opposite you don't want starting fluid on a gas engine due to the much lower compression starting fluid is incredibly explosive and can damage a low compression motor
Maybe check motor and see if it has freeze plugs measure them if it does you can put one like I had in my diesel truck it slides right in freeze plug and warms antifreeze. It will start like its July :)
4:20 Bolt in pins, just reverse them to the inside and you can use it on the case. Some people don’t like to do it, but I’ve never had a problem when making old implements fit
Precisely what I was going to suggest. Easy fix. Although setting it up with a quick-hitch for the front and adapting a hydraulic top link to automate blade angle sounds just like an Evan project.
your engine should be turning over before you start to spray starting fluid into air intake. if a valve was open and filled a cylinder with fluid it could pre ignite and damage the engine
Evan, take a tip from the Millenial Farmer and cut the hood string off of your hoodies. Farmers are always around rotating equipment and getting one of those strings tangled up would be a bad day for sure.
Like George Davidson said earlier, You could move the vertical arms of the grader blade and put them on the inside to gain more room if you wanted it to fit on the Case tractor.
Be very careful with mechanic in a can. Use too much and it will blow a head gasket, or worse yet, crack a head. Much better to install an engine tank heater and warm the coolant up for an hour or two. The coolant heaters heat the heads where the compression takes place. Oil pan heaters are practically useless. Thanks for giving the old CASE some love.
Long time viewer, first time commentator…I love your channel! Country View Acres is in my top 3. I like that you both are so real; you share the successes & the “try harder next times.” Thank you from East Tennessee. I appreciate your content. I have learned so much from your channel. -Ann
Your 730 has a manifold preheated on it. I can see the cable on the left side of your engine. Turn your key the opposite way of starter engagement and it will preheat the intake air. You should hear a click when it starts heating. Hold it for a count of 60 to 80, depends on how cold it is . Release the key and attempt a normal start procedure. It will make a great difference in your cold start attempts. If it's not working, remove the heat element it may have a broken heat coil. Or the mechanism that transfer current to the element may be defective. Good to start the engine until the Temps dip to the low 20s. Then you should rely on a engine tank heater. Case tractors do not like either, good why to Crack the heads. Costly repair. I own many old Case Tractors but no 730 Diesels, only 730 is a gas tractor
Very possible. Should be a spring loaded switch that returns to the center position when released. You may have to visit a Case Dealer for an original switch or a salvage yard for a donation switch. You can activate the manifold with a cable from your battery to see if it's working first in case you need more parts relaced.
@harleyrozeboom7826 the key switch acts like a lawn mower key switch. right to run and momentary farther right to start. probably the wrong key switch.
That 730 is an early one being an low tin. So it might not have the pre heater or manifold heater, those tractors don't mind a little shot of starting fluid as long as you don't go crazy. Those early years from the 400's in 1955 through right around 60 had an ether capsule cold starting aid.
There are actual water block heaters that you can put into one of the freeze plugs or there are ones that can be put into the lower radiator hose. Changing out the fuel filters and making sure the lines are clean and not leaking from the tank to the injection pump will solve a lot of the hard starting issues.
The cylinder on the blade isn't a bad idea, but I would try to get a wider one, especially if your blade isn't wider than half the road when it's rotated at an angle. It's not uncommon for us to have an issue starting in the cold, we have water jacket coils on ours. We use Rotella T4 on our older diesel tractors and have been for 15 years, but I do use Motorcraft on my 05 F250 diesel truck. I enjoyed watching, have a great dinner and remainder of week.
Great job Evan, having those cheater bars around is money saving. You did good servicing the Case Tractor too , thanks for sharing with us. Stay safe and keep up the fun around there. Fred.
Howdyyawl from the land down under. Nothing wrong with an old tractor. Strong& dependable. Might want to turn the battery around. You can still use the implements, have to weld different eyelets on. In South Australia we have a product called ( start ya bastard ).😂 works well with all engines. Keep plugging along, you'll get there. Sometimes it takes more patients than time Keeping it real😊
Very good job on changing the oil I think you should fully restore it paint it but maybe first just give it a really good bath in this next summer what about the hydraulic oil either you don't know when that last was being changed
Good video buddy can I ask you what year case that is and what model the case that is I like to try to find me one I like the body style on that one please let me know thank you keep up the good work
Well its about time you took that sweet wife, Rebekah, out to dinner. Watching the two of you work around your farm, a night off is earned. Be safe. Till next time...
5 tractors? With that much equipment and vehicles, you need a decent set of jumper cables. The starter didn’t turn much faster after you hooked up those thin cables. The most expensive tool you will buy is the one in the bargain bin.
I had to use starting fluid on my diesel truck with a Cummins motor when I had a sensor going out to get it started it fired right up with a decent shot. I’ve saw where people weld wings onto their grader blade to make them 7 or 8 foot blades. I run Rotella T 15-40 oil in all my diesel engines or Valvoline Premium Blue 15-40 if I can’t find the other that’s what all my diesel mechanic friends recommend
Hey Evan there is a place called Steiner Tractor Parts, that has a spin on oil filter adaptor as well as most parts for vintage tractors. Your choice of 15 w 40 is good, we always used auto trans fluid in cold weather in the air cleaner. The old 30 weight oil is a thing of the past. Enjoy your videos and can appreciate working on the old vintage tractors, cheers my friend.
@@andyrobinson339 that was the only oils they made in the old days, straight 10, 20, or 30 weight etc.still works well, but the multi grade oils are much easier to source in this day and age and the multi grade is much more versatile than a straight grade oil. We use 15 w 40 in all the machiner In winter when cleaning snow etc the stuff that we use is 5 w 40 the engines turn over much easier for better starting. Merry Christmas.
On the Case tractor I'd forget about the magnet heater for the block and get a Kats inline coolant heater. It makes a huge difference on my IH 484, it will warm the coolant up to 160 or more before you start it.
You didn't use the electric manifold heater to start the 730? It makes all the difference to starting. My 730 turns over barely half that speed but fires right up right away. Never used ether (starting fluid) yet.
That Case Tractor is Already Either Trained i do believe ..That is Why Its So Hard To Start of a morning & They are a Little Cold natured to ! Unless you keep the block heater pluged in of a night Then they fire right up on the Coldest of mornings ..or at least Ours always did ! ! Cool Video as always & Thanks for Sharing !
You can turn them pins around the opposite way so they are on the inside
You can put a inline heater in the rad hose

I'm only 72 but I grew up on a farm and several of my father's family had farms and I took early retirement and bought a farm so it's easy to relate.
The rust just gives it character

Great video Evan you do such a great job on articulating the task at hand and being thorough. Love your channel buddy.
i think you can make it fit by moveing top link bars to inside of lower hook up points enjoy your videos very much dave

yes, it has an eagle claw hitch. the implement needs to be 25 to 26 inches between the pins or it don't fit.
Some timber cribbing instead of jack stands is definitely safer.
possibly turn the pins to the inside so it will work on multiple tractors, make it a hyd, movable blade
It always amazes me that you built a nice shop but always work outside lol
I'd keep the blade on the back of the tractor - - - pull, not push.
Detergent oil is not recommended for older tractors because of all the slug that will be left in the motor
A multi viscosity nondetergent motor oil

Let Pete from just a few acres do a restoration on it for you depending on your budget would be neat to see you both work together
I agree that would be an awesome video.
Pete is an International Harvester guy… probably wouldn’t enjoy a Case.
The thing is that Evan needs to learn some commonsense and Peter would be an ideal teacher for that. @@rancancookcanoy9768
Or do what Pete did and ask his viewers for money to restore a tractor.
That would be a good video. Patty, Ordin and Titus giving them hell in the back ground while they are working on the rebuild..
Don't restore it, just spray it wit oil and diesel mix to prevent it from rusting. It's perfect as is.

On the scraper just turn the bolts around to the inside that might just work.
At the shop we call it a can of "start you bastard" 😊

OL lestdig18 calls starting fluid, tractor crack. Makes them get up and move.
Don't modify it. Use it on the small tractor. I used a 6' blade on a 6n ford and it worked fine. It had less hp than your small tractor.

You could put the lifting pins facing inside instead of out so that it would fit on the Case.
On the Case tractor I'd forget about the magnet heater for the block and get a Kats inline coolant heater. It makes a huge difference on my IH 484, it will warm the coolant up to 160 or more before you start it.
Thanks have a great date!
Nice job! Great video thanks for sharing
You didn't use the electric manifold heater to start the 730? It makes all the difference to starting. My 730 turns over barely half that speed but fires right up right away. Never used ether (starting fluid) yet.
I LOVE YOU GUYS !!!!
Ether
You need a jumper box
That Case Tractor is Already Either Trained i do believe ..That is Why Its So Hard To Start of a morning & They are a Little Cold natured to ! Unless you keep the block heater pluged in of a night Then they fire right up on the Coldest of mornings ..or at least Ours always did ! ! Cool Video as always & Thanks for Sharing !
