    I think Mitsuha cut her hair after being "rejected" by Taki in Tokyo. The timing works out just right for that. It is also why she skipped school the day of the comet. Remember Tessie called her and she said "No, I'm fine. I just didn't feel like going." That's why, in the first time line Tessie and Sayaka were so surprised by her short hair in the evening, but in the second time line, they were surprised by her short hair in the morning at school.

      Yes in some East Asian culture
      Girl cutting hair to the extreme, usually related with heart break
      It symbolize having a new start, throw away the past
      Something like that

    • @duongnhdn
      @duongnhdn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      - In the main timeline, the day comet hit, she set up the date for Taki and Okudera, but cried when she woke up thinking about that. She skipped school and went to see Taki and gave him (who was only 14 at the time) the braided cord. Being so used to having that braided cord on her hair, now without it she just cut her hair because she had no cord to tie it up anymore. Being so devastated, she lied home in the afternoon and only showed up at the festival in the evening right before the comet hit.
      - However, in the alternated timeline, Taki woke up in the body of Mitsuha the morning the same day the comet hit but her hair was already cut, and she went to Tokyo the day before. So in 2 timelines, Mitsuha came to Tokyo in 2 different day. It's the inconsistent in the story telling of the movie.

    • @robertscott1949

      @@duongnhdn I don't think we can conclude that Mitsuha went to Tokyo on different days in the two timelines. In both cases the visit to Tokyo was the day before the comet hit. The alternate timeline began the morning of the comet. It had no "past". It was a fresh start. For the people of Itomori, the original day of the comet ceased to exist. For them the only reality was the one that led to the eventual evacuation to the high school.
      Just because Mitsuha said "I'm going to Tokyo for a few hours" that does not mean it was the one and only time she skipped school. She had her Grandma cut her hair that same day, perhaps in the evening, because she felt rejected. (I'm sure she had spare hair ribbons if that is all the was upsetting her.) Regardless of whether she skipped school the day before the comet, she definitely skipped school the day of the comet, which we learn from Tessie's phone call. That is why Tessie and Sayaka are so surprised to see her hair cut. It was the first time they had seen her since she had it cut. But in the new timeline, they were surprised in the morning, because in this timeline she did go to school on the day of the comet. Remember that Yotsuha asks Taki in Mitsuha's body, "And why did you suddenly go to Tokyo yesterday? You've been acting really strange lately." She said that on the day of the comet in the new timeline. We are shown only one flashback memory of the visit to Tokyo, and it was the day before the comet hit.

    The timing was absolutely hilarious. I just rewatched Your Name a few hours ago.
    I had a similar experience literally 2 days ago when me, my sister, our cousin and our friend watched the first Matrix because our friend hadn't seen it. The next day on the way helping him to the train station, we saw a caravan that had the text ''Matrix'' on the side. On our way back a neighbor was feeding hedgehogs outside near the caravan, and then we realized that they looked very similar to the character ''Switch'' from Matrix.

    He wrote "I love you." Musubi kept erasing all personal information (writing, cell phone entries, memories). By writing "I love you," Taki's name may have been forgotten but the words he wrote STAYED on her hand. When she was ready to give up after falling down, she saw those words and while she couldn't remember Taki, she could know she was loved--and that feeling gave her the strength and determination to keep going, and to confront her father.
    This is the first movie I've bought on Blu-ray. And then I needed to buy a Blu-ray player so i could watch it. Worth it. I watch it at least 1x or 2x a week now and love to watch reaction videos of people seeing this masterpiece for the first time.
    May you find the destiny for which you're searching.

    • @PinkCubed
      @PinkCubed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is beautifully said. The emotion mattered so much more than the information in that moment. It is a very sweet and surprisingly intense movie, I respect your love for it. 🎀

    • @reygonzalez8706
      @reygonzalez8706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, she was loved by a guy that did everything in his power to save her. He even managed to force a time travel (all others time travels and body swaps were random and out of their control) to give her and the town another chance as Musubi had planned 1200 years ago when he granted the shrine keepers (Misumiya family) the power to switch bodies. The "I love you@ was a power move by the writers, because there it was confirmed that both loved each other (she cried when she thought about the Taki and Okudera date and went to Tokyo the next day in order to meet him even when he had gone on a date she had set up), but it was also what sealed their connection, Musubi can erase data and memories but could not erase feelings. They loved each other until finally reuniting again.

      what a wonderful anime movie to start with. This would definitely be a top-tier recommend to someone that is trying to get into anime for sure. It's just so sweet and pleasant and then suddenly so striking and emotional

    • @TerminianHero
      @TerminianHero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PinkCubed I definitely agree. I've even shown this movie to my mom and grandma and they both loved it. Now I even got my mom to watch a few other animes with me that she enjoyed. I've always been hyperfocused on stuff like videogames and anime, and I never thought I would get to share this stuff with my family, but thanks to this movie I have. (I've also wanted to get one of my friends who historically doesn't like anime to watch this because I know she'll love it, but it's been hard because she lives on the other side of the country now and is SUPER busy all the time, but I'll make her watch it eventually!)
      As a bit of trivia, in some Asian cultures two people being connected by a red string symbolizes that they're fated to be with each other. It's called the Red Thread of Fate. I'm not sure if it would be a good thing or bad thing to know that before watching the movie. It could spoil the ending, but only if you don't consider that they might be trying to trick you with that symbolism.
      This is my favorite movie of all time. My two favorite kinds of stories are emotional stories and time travel stories, and this movie is both. (And is why I love certain other shows like Steins;Gate.) Every part of this movie is just so well done, whether it's the slice-of-life stuff or the tearjerking sections. The writing, the animation and cinematography, and of course the music all work so well together. I just love it!

    • @PinkCubed
      @PinkCubed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TerminianHero That is a very sweet story. Good luck in getting your other friend to watch it lol
      Awww. I could see that being a little spoilerly in a way but it is definitely something fun to know after the fact. We all just gotta find the other end of our red strings I suppose.
      The time travel mix in was completely unexpected but worked surprisingly well. It 100% gave me Steins;Gate flashbacks like you mention. The best part for me was probably them setting rules for each others bodies. That was both incredibly wholesome and actually an unexpected really interesting dynamic. It made me think what kind of rules I would set (which is a fun question to think about.) It's a very solid movie, I can respect it as your favorite for sure

    It's the next movie by Shinkai Makoto. While it's set in the same universe, don't really expect continuity between "kimi no nawa" and that. It explores a new and still awesome story.
    (Also, have you read or seen Erased? I'm not gonna tell you why I'm recommending it specifically, because spoilers, but you sound like you'd enjoy it immensely! And btw, while the anime is great, you should read the first manga volume and then everything from the ending that the anime doesn't include - roughly 13 chapters that got deformed into 2 episodes.)
