Gretna to Dumfries. A trip along the Glasgow South Western.

This video is from a route learning special filmed in November 2020 in glorious autumn weather. We commence the video at Gretna just north of Carlisle on the West Coast Main Line, before heading North West towards Annan and Dumfries. There was a lot of talking / instructing going on so the sound has been muted I am afraid. We are looking at a solution to record in the back cab so that viewers wishing to enjoy the sound can do so in our future videos.

Annan Signal Box, very typical G&SW. I’ve only been over this line twice. In 1979 when I worked for Travellers Fare manning an on board Catering trolley on a charter ( Watford Junction to Inverness) engineering work I think North of Gretna Junction, and came back from Glasgow last time I went to Northern Ireland. I thought I would try the route of the Thames Clyde Express ( I changed at Carlisle Citadel to a train back over the S&C)

The small overbridge @ 10.22 is where the Solway line passed over the GSW. It now appears to carry a sewer or drain out to the Solway Firth.
