Once again Tinman does not have an ego just down to earth, makes a mistake and doesn’t try to hide it. Just reality showing things that happen to all of us. 👍👍
Tinman, I have been a longtime fan of your builds. The only time I’ve commented was when you got the Ford with the 7.3. Living in Texas I don’t need a big saw to cut my firewood, but I really perked up when I saw you doing the 026. Us old guy that still cut wood to heat are really turned in on this project. Hope you and your family are doing well. Bob
Love the 026 project! Thank you for keeping your content clean even when things get frustrating. I appreciate being able to watch your videos with my kids. Keep up the good work!
Hey, friend! Maybe you have worn the carburetor nuts out😂! Just kidding, Tinman. I think we are learning a lot because of your persistence! You and the family stay healthy!
As a total amateur, these videos are my favorite and the most helpful! Showing the process of working through issues and how you narrow issues down to specific parts is something hard to gain elsewhere without a lot of personal experience
I like watching these 026 vids. My BIL had an 026 that was just like that one. He replaced about everything on it and it still gave trouble. He eventually sold it. It also passed a pressure and vac test.
Love the honesty and dedication of this channel! I've definitely made my share of embarrassing mistakes, but like you, am not afraid to own them👍🏻 fingers crossed that was the fix.
You are a dedicated man. I would have thrown that saw as far as i could. I dont have patiences for stuff like this. I am so Glad there is Men out there like you . Well Done Sir.
I rule out air leaks by spraying flammable brake cleaner around the base gasket, intake boot and crank seals. I recently had trouble with one of my Husqvarna 350 and easily found the problem. Disassemble and resealed the crankcase and it's like a new saw. Thanks for the video and keeping it real.
Really enjoying this series, learning a lot. I noticed on my nightmare 026 that refuses to start, if I pull the fuel line off the carb, flip the saw until fuel dribbles out, it starts first pull. I'm buying a 620p though. Had enough until next year.
It’s been very fun watching all these little bugs get resolved. Can’t wait to Tear my 026 down. Are you still porting cylinders? I my buy a highway kit from you and have you do the porting👍
If you read my comment couple of videos back when I suggested to lift that metering flap you would've had it fixed long ago, the worst carburettor to work with it is bing as metering needle flap it's plastic but luckily only available on 028,038. I think it has air leakage also.
The wire being off shouldn't have anything to do with it , because the coil will make spark as long as it's not grounded out, the wire that was off is the ground wire that kills it through the switch.
That's what I wanted to comment on. I was thinking that not having that connection bypassed the switch for starting. In other words, the saw would have started with the switch in either the STOP or ON position.
coil makes spark grounded to the jug. the wires complete an out side loop to shut the coil off. if im testing a coil, i pull the grey and the green wire off. short block saws need a jumper wire from.the coil to the jug, thats the complete loop to create impass and send spark to the plug, otherwise known as a diode, or an emitter😉😊
on long block saws coil mounts to the metal case, or the jug, which is its impass ground, short block requires a jumper if the coil mounts to the plastic case.
I ported a 026 last winter that runs and tunes and frustrates me EXACTLY like this saw . I deemed the wandering tune and die from high rpm from inadequate carb to air consumption through rpm ranges. Even under load condition. I'll follow this to see how you make out.
And of course, the Tinman won't give up or be defeated! Set it down and walk away, get a glass of tea, and come back later. Lol You and the family stay safe, brother!
Whenever I got a flooded engine I light a bbq lighter and put it down the plug hole. Some engines will actually spin over a few revolutions. It burns all the gas off and pre heats the cylinder. I’m thinking that wire you hooked up on the coil was just for the kill switch.
might be microrust in the carb, ive had it totally ruin a carb, never know unless you have two or three of everything as a benchmark. glad you got yours running, mine still sits not at all... makes no sense to me...
I use Stihl R3 for impulse and fuel lines unless it needs to be specific molded fuel line. I never used tygon or oregon fuel line and never will. For tank vent line i can use something else like clear fuel line.
Tinman, this may get posted twice because I don’t see my other post. Check the choke flap on the filter. Sometimes they warp or just don’t seal or stick closed on 026 saws.
i have 260s and there finicky if i dont run them atleast twice a week they don t wanna start there only good if they wanna start lol i dought its fixed id be keeping a eye out for new carb
Tinman I sold an 026 I never did figure out. Took avg 12 pulls to start after it sit a few days. Once started it run good and restarted easy. I was just never impressed by its power and sent it on its way. Acted same way with new oem carb.
I have a saw thats doing the exact same thing. Its an xl 12. The fuel line has air and when you stop pulling it falls back to the tank. It fires but won't stay running. The carburetor holds pressure its getting good spark the spark plug works fine in a different saw. Compression is good. Whats wrong.
Always cut the green wire ! oh wait a second 🐿️🐿️ 😄 something like this can drive you nuts, and I know I can’t leave it alone alone until it’s either fixed or deceased… The impulse setup is old and annoying, but I’ll put a six pack on it causing the trouble.
you may not remember this saw, in ten years, but you will remember the time you spent settin up the splash pad with your kid😊😊great vids, but family time is better, we can wait!
Why don’t you just spray some ether into the intake boot with the carb removed and then crank it? This should start the engine briefly and burn out a flooded situation. That would also validate that the ignition is working normally and that the carb is probably the problem. I do this routinely to validate a functioning ignition and adequate compression/vacuum. Dr. K.
I recently bought a new air cleaner cover for a customer’s Husky trimmer. It came with a new fuel and air filter, plus a new spark plug. I installed all of it and the trimmer ran like crap! So, I tuned it and tuned it for about an hour. Finally, I threw the old plug back in and it ran perfectly! Aarrgghh!
Love to see someone who digs out the problem and figures it out
Another great video! This has been an awesome series so far. Saw sounds good. Can't wait to see more! Thanks Tinman!
I love your channel Tinman!!! Your authenticity is fabulous and it keeps me coming back for more content.
Been there done that Tinman! I've flooded saws so bad that I thought they needed rebuilding! Thanks for the chuckle
Once again Tinman does not have an ego just down to earth, makes a mistake and doesn’t try to hide it. Just reality showing things that happen to all of us. 👍👍
Would have been really easy to edit out, but we learned from others, which is why we watch 😅
Lol it was so funny when I found that wire.
we all make an opps every now and then 🙂👍.
It stihl needs works bubby 😆
Enjoying the in depth diagnosing!!! I'm sure it's trying but with all these videos it makes me want to rebuild another 026!!
If it was possible for you to endear yourself to us even more, you have. Honest, humble, and total transparency!
Love ya, friend!❤💪
Maybe not a good investment if you were selling the saw but this content is great for your channel. Real time, honest, trouble shooting!

Thank you for keeping your content clean even when things get frustrating. I appreciate being able to watch your videos with my kids.
Keep up the good work!
I’ve had a lot of 026 saws with the paper cylinder gaskets leaking
Donny walker would fix this saw in 25 mind I bet

I WAS WAITING FOR THE RECOIL ROPE TO SNAP 😄😄😄
He was putting the grunt to it. And I remember something about great compression…
Thanks Tin man really enjoying this cool to see your process can’t wait to see it all dialed in and cutting
Paul from Iowa is Laughing with you, we've all been there. Everyone just wants something Real. You're Real, appreciate you!!!
Love the honesty and dedication of this channel! I've definitely made my share of embarrassing mistakes, but like you, am not afraid to own them👍🏻 fingers crossed that was the fix.
Good job, I really admire your patience. You're getting closer to making it perfect. Thanks.
Love my 026. Had tune issues with mine when I got it. Same thing. Impulse line was loose. Runs great
You are a dedicated man. I would have thrown that saw as far as i could. I dont have patiences for stuff like this. I am so Glad there is Men out there like you . Well Done Sir.
Love this series great content tinman
It's usually the simplest things that baffle us the most 😂 been there done that a million times

Happens to us all tinman. Thabks fir actually showing your mistakes when they happen. Makes us all better.

Good video your perseverance finds solutions to the issue. Thanks for sharing with us
Wow what a great video!!! This is good stuff, the battles are real! Perseverance, yet another life lesson thank you sir.
Great Job! Love it! The trials and tribulations….
You are a patient fella. That saw might be in the canal if it was me messing with it. But it looks like ya mite have it. Cold start will tell.
It’s been very fun watching all these little bugs get resolved. Can’t wait to Tear my 026 down. Are you still porting cylinders? I my buy a highway kit from you and have you do the porting👍
I luv it , what a great vid brother you are the man , always enjoyed the honest content, bless you and family
Leaking carb needle maybe

Very interesting video, again! Thx!!!

Way to stay positive Tinman and keep working to figure it out! Love watching and learning. 👍😁

I’m having the same problem with a mini 2 stroke tiller, won’t start. IT WILL NOT DEFEAT ME! 💪
Whenever I got a flooded engine I light a bbq lighter and put it down the plug hole. Some engines will actually spin over a few revolutions. It burns all the gas off and pre heats the cylinder. I’m thinking that wire you hooked up on the coil was just for the kill switch.
Awesome thanks again 👍
Congratulations great video don’t give up,I’m learning a lot, if I have a problem like that I’m sending to you, or giving away 😂😂😂😂you are relentless.
Love your videos, but I can appreciate your patience more than anything. I would've thrown that all against the wall by now.
She runs ye ha !Can't wait for the next video!
Check the Main jet check valve
might be microrust in the carb, ive had it totally ruin a carb, never know unless you have two or three of everything as a benchmark. glad you got yours running, mine still sits not at all... makes no sense to me...
It is ground wire just for shut down. Coil have ground through cases.
Tin man. Erratic inconsistent carb adjustments. Seals. Seal failure can be intermentant. Without case pressure the impulse doesn't produce pressure.
I use Stihl R3 for impulse and fuel lines unless it needs to be specific molded fuel line. I never used tygon or oregon fuel line and never will. For tank vent line i can use something else like clear fuel line.

Wow, I learned so much with series. See ya at Bunyan!
Wish you had the original new carb for it. I really wonder what it would do.
Great got my attempt done and cutting 026av you need the same fuel line I got its shorter and straight fuel line. sent you an email or 2 had pics
Doooffffeeee! Shucks 😂😂😂😂😂. Boy do I feel silly 😂😂. We have all been there, done similar 😮😢😅 😊
I wonder if you need to lengthen or shorten the throttle linkage to get more throttle when cold starting? Thats what i would try.
Oh man, my arms are tired just watching you trying to start that thing. For me, any Stihl I've cold started took at least 7 pulls to pop.
I have had the same problem, frustrating beyond belief! You get it running and then out of nowhere it floods?
He’s human like the rest of us😂.
i have 260s and there finicky if i dont run them atleast twice a week they don t wanna start there only good if they wanna start lol i dought its fixed id be keeping a eye out for new carb
I had erratic running and starting on my 026 , It was a tiny pin hole in the carb pump end cover , in the ally bit not the gasket . bloody ethanol ?
This is the best saga. Can’t wait to see it in the wood.
How hot is it up in Canada?
Great video, been struggling with tinkering with a troublesome chainsaw myself
Tinman I sold an 026 I never did figure out. Took avg 12 pulls to start after it sit a few days. Once started it run good and restarted easy. I was just never impressed by its power and sent it on its way. Acted same way with new oem carb.
Keeping it real. The little things are the toughest to find.
It might have been frustrating Tinman, but you got one heck of a workout.
Oh boy... I think now its flooded... maybe not... commenting in real time watching the video... I think you got it... yep. Again TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
My 036 always had to give it full throttle while holding the joke down just a tad or it would never start.
My 250 acts the same way! It’s why I switched to Husqvarna!
If you disrupt seals, hoses, gaskets it's a good idea to pressure test.
Do them carbs have a microscreen ?
Always amazes me how much people pay for used saws on ebay.
Just chilling and you video popped up. Hope you got this figured out. I'll find out... TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
She's still a good little saw keep up the good work 👍💪
That carb needs a 3lb hammer.
Always cut the green wire ! oh wait a second 🐿️🐿️ 😄 something like this can drive you nuts, and I know I can’t leave it alone alone until it’s either fixed or deceased…
The impulse setup is old and annoying, but I’ll put a six pack on it causing the trouble.
I always open the jets to 1 1/4 turns to start.
Whenever I saw his flooded I just hold it wide open and pull it, it will eventually fire it just needs more air
Great work mate
Simple fixes are the best kind of fixes. That saw is going to be a ripper.
Thanks for the video
So it sounds like an air leak on the impulse line was the main culprit here? Pressure test! 🙂
When that has happened to me, it was the compression at fault.
Un abonné de France qui aime bien tes videos!😃
See that's one of those stupid mistakes us normal people make, it happens. I'm so appreciative that tin Man does not try to hide it. Thx Tin Man!
Maybe the spring is off choke system take air filter off
Damn what a pain in the ass this saw has been haha I love my 026 definitely wouldn’t mind having another
you may not remember this saw, in ten years, but you will remember the time you spent settin up the splash pad with your kid😊😊great vids, but family time is better, we can wait!
Why don’t you just spray some ether into the intake boot with the carb removed and then crank it? This should start the engine briefly and burn out a flooded situation. Plug is fouled.
Aarrgghh!
It's ready to pull chain
Its not even running great and i am in love with the saw. 😅
If it was a husky it wouldn’t need that wire! 🤗
@Timman..tie gone?
Way to persevere tinman!
Step 0 on the next build: check the wires to the coil.
Hmmmm, surprised that after all that you didn't do the pressure test, just because! Regardless, hope it runs to your expectation now!
Thank you
