"I'm a little rusty." - Proceeds to launch over a 6ft. tall boulder.
"It's for cleaning Jets." It's a Torch Tip Cleaner that many use for other tasks like..... cleaning plugged orifice's and the like. The Jets are a good opportunity! AND.... it's a Honda, of course it will start! Honda my not be the fastest or flashy but.... they DO seem to last forever! Love your stuff Matt! Keep up the fun work!
lol dude had the floats not floating she was just dumping fuel
yeah, my grandpa has a lil stamped sheetmetal thing with a buncha tip cleaners
i'd say the most invaluable piece of kit when working on small engine carbs
Good for cleaning bbq jets too😊
I'm 60 and I grew up learning to ride a motorcycle on one of these back in the 70's.
My trail 90 (50+years old) still starts and rides on 30 year old tubes and tires. 5hp beast! Fun adventure! Thanks for sharing!
That is awesome!
30 year old tubes, unbelievable! What climate has it lived in mostly?
South Central Idaho. Snake River Plain. Used primarily for ditch running and irrigation duty. I installed new tubes and tires in the early 90's!
as a gander you probably weigh between 80 and 120 kilos and 5hp is more than enough.
I've had 50 yesr old tires still good on these in washington state as well. Good climate and more importantly they have a center stand so there's no flat spot pressure during storage
Happy birthday Matt !
😊
Thank you!
Ed March would be proud!
i love how much fuel is pouring out if it
eeeeesh. It's fixed now
Man, when you had the bowl off it looked like there was a small hole in the bottom of the bowl -- was I seeing that right or was that just some random crud? @@MattSpears
@@gregshamieh6339 It was just rust. Looked funny!
I loved seeing you and your brother getting the bike running in the parking lot! Epic view, what a hill climb!
The best!
The Trail 90 with the CLUTCH (non-Auto Clutch) is a very cool unit! Not as many were made.... might not want to total that one! ;-)
Thanks for the info! Did not know there was a difference. Really fun machine
This one is auto clutch?????
My dad bought a 1970 or '71 Honda Trail 90 brand new so that he could ride it to and from work (including to home for lunch and back to work) every day. My mom and dad put over 40,000 miles on that motorcycle with a few miles thrown in by one of my sisters and I. But that's exactly the kind of motorcycle I learned to ride on. Later, when I was married and 25 my wife and I bought a used '87 Wineberry GoldWing Aspencade and put another 70,000 miles on it and had a couple other GoldWings, one of which we still have but I haven't been able to ride for 18 years (health reasons). Anyway, those are good motorcycles.
Hi Matt, love your vids. I wish you had mentioned how many miles on the ODO. I love CT 90's I've owned about a dozen of them and put them through their paces back in the day. I still have replacement engines (and parts) to throw in potential "Not weather beaten" barn finds.
I think 2 things saved you from seizing the engine on the long, low range + 1st gear attempts:
• really cold day
combined with
• Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas (cylinder lube)
I've seized my share of CTs.
Usually, normal day temp 60-70ºF combined with something very steep, that requires low 1st for about 150 yards will seize the engine.
I've tried oil additives that prolonged (actually Prolong oil additive) that extended that.
You HAVE to keep air flowing over the top end. At least enough speed, like low + 2nd (or higher) and not lugging, for enough air flow. Otherwise....
I LOVED the "shoot the carb cleaner down the throat with no carb" troubleshooting technique!
And simple tip cleaner application for the jets. Although, "rough" tip cleaners can negatively affect atomization of fuel of a soft brass jet. Smooth tip cleaners can poke blockages out, as long as care is taken not damaging the soft brass jet atomization shape.
Great vid! :)
PS
Seize the engine once (which you may have done) you can get away with, with wisps of oil smoke in the exhaust
Seize it twice, more oil smoke
Seize it 3 times, engine done, no compression.
Good luck!
Really good to know! Have not seized it.
I had a 1970 CT90 about 12 years ago, I put full knobbies on it. I had a lot of fun with it. Still have an S90 and 2 CL90's.
What a bundle of energy this guy is, I’m glad I found him on TH-cam I’m subbed
Some of my best motorcycle memories are from trips on my stupid project bikes. It’s crazy how much fun you can have on old simple bikes.
Comparing a postman's bike to an enduro is a bit much , but I enjoy your enthusiasm none the less
You two brothers almost look like twins.. love watching you guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Today is my birthday lol. I'm 45 though. I enjoy your videos so much. Not to many original people out there that are clean anymore. I'm glad you been posting a ton of content because you're one I look for after I get off work.
Please drop some merch!!!!!!! I will buy.
I found your channel through the Shadetree Surgeon channel. Matt, you are definitely a full Send It type of guy. I will definitely recommend your channel & smash that like button!
Welcome aboard! I appreciate it!!
Hi Matt! Happy Birthday man from New Zealand! Came across your channel only last week and loving it. Keep it going!
Welcome aboard! Appreciate it!
I really dig your attitude and the fact that you're always smiling.. and the crazy shit you do is just as good.
Here in Australia, these were used as postie bikes. Now we use the modern C125 Cub. I absolutely love these bikes, and have multiple of them. I don't know about the US but here in Australia, those metal battery brackets are RARE. I'm yet to find one that still has the original one. The plastic also looks like it's in decent condition which can be uncommon. Also never knew they made these with manual transmission. Definitely a good find!
Very cool. Yeah this one has a clutch that is attached to the shift lever, pretty wild. Not sure if they all have that
Legend !! 👊
Are here any Ed March fans? C90 adventures for life! 😂
the goat
Yup the gloves haha now I see where you get it your brother is crazy too. Keep at it but stay safe I'm here for it🤘
Appreciate it
Positivity is amazing 👏
Cheers!
I have always wanted to pick up one of these to tinker on and screw around with. Maybe this is a sign to finally grab one, just turned 22 myself.
Happy birthday Amigo!
Could you imagine having that back in the 70's put putting past kids on their bicycles.. you'd have been the coolest kid around.. now I get blasted buy on the trails by 14 years old on 2 strokes wheelying at 50mph :P
I had a C90 back in the 1990's road it to work and back up and down very steep hills tarmac roads and shortcuts up through the woods, one memorial time, me and the wife went to a party and it snowed, no one thought we'd get home as we lived in the top Village but amazing two's up we got it up quite easily the steepest road in the district of Stroud Gloucestershire uk 🎗️ Great Videos you make mate 🤠
One of the best bikes ever!
Loving it
Best type of content! 🎉
Thanks!
Now I want to see you take the Goldwing to the top of that Mountain!
I loved the little double tap on the battery cover just to make sure it wasn't going anywhere! Another great video, thanks and happy birthday Matt!
Had to click on this one right away! Can confirm you got yourself a ripper there - I've fixed up 3 of these and it was cool to see someone with more MX experience than me ripping it. I'm 26 and the ct was my first motorcycle - this video makes me stoked to pick up a modern bike in the next couple years too. Hit me up if you and your ct ever make it to bozeman!
My first learning and experience with motorcycles was on this same bike! Yep...in 1971....I can't help but wonder if that was my old bike!?! Thank You for not totally destroying that piece of history!
Super fun bike the Honda trail 90😂, I have one in my collection, great fun to ride and hill climb on 😂😂
How can you not love those little troopers ? Thanks Matt , love your videos...
Fantastic video as always pal👍 and happy birthday!
my friend here in the Philippines just got one of these bikes and I was like bro that's old. But then when I tried it I kind of feel like buying it from him 😂😂
Love seeing you fix it in the car park. Its like Beardy Mechanic but sketchier lol. Nice vid
Living my dream through your experiences. I ain't even mad. Jealous? Maybe. You got yourself a subscription!
all part of the Journey good stuff man have been enjoying your content
Crazy! And I loved it. Keep rolling!
More to come!
Happy Birthday Matt. Loving the little 70s CT .. You need to put a bigger engine in and make it a beast.
I thought that mountain looked familiar, I drove by there this morning.
Funny to see you riding with a finger on the "clutch" lever. I got scolded for the same thing during a STAR street rider safety course back in the 90's (coincidentally, about a mile from that O'Reilly's). Old dirt habits die hard.
I had an old Yamaha DT 175 that I bought not running and that was exactly it's problem to! Good job Guys!
Happy Birthday hope you have/had a great day.
happy birthday legend
Bro love the videos you definitely need to go to wellsville this summer
Phenomenal vid. If you're ever in the UK, head down to North Devon and have a go on Nathan Millward's CT110s or new CT125s. Soooo much fun!
I remember when i still lived in dominican republic we used to wheelie this bikes great times man great times
I love how fuel was pouring out of the petcock the entire time.
Definitely brothers!!! Cool video bro 😎
Your country needs you Matt.. We have a terrible void in the secretary of transportation role 😕
😂 ya got to love the old CTs I had the 110cc myself
Happy birthday player!!!
These bikes are legendary among the London cabbies here in the UK, when I drove coaches in London you couldn’t go 10 mins with out some Waldo on a C50, C90 or the legendary Honda super cub, if you are interested watch the original top gear from the UK with Clarkson Hammond and may, ours have leg shields on them and the exhaust runs along the opposite side to the chain.
Any way just a little bit of useless information with (if you choose to watch it) a recommendation for some late frivolity with some idiots abroad. I owned a C90, and the Yamaha version a T80 both great and reliable modes of getting about.
You are my new favorite channel, love your videos since i discovered Piggy, makes me want a Goldwing hahaha go on with more cool contents!! 🎉❤
Happy birthday Matt!
Love all these resto projects, on youtube, looks like the same amount of work we had to do in the 70s, on the road, just to get the ride finished. Guys never change. Pretty soon, it will all be electric on the fly repairs.
Hi Matt I sold and road CT 90s in Aspen back in 70s John Chapman and I road our 90s to top of Mt Elbert 14440 ft. Also around Moab I loved that little tool
Colby! Your a big reason I picked up one of these!!!
@@MattSpears We Have ride together Sometime next Summer after Aug Sept Colo Oct Nov Moab
Very entertaining young blood.
You have skills for days.
The Busa and LeadWing are testament to that 👌
Woah I didn’t know you were near Coeur d’Alene!
Cool video, been thinking about getting an old trail 90 to check out old mining roads and trails in the motherlode.
I love it. Real fun rip around bike
G Day Matt.
Happy Birthday
Supertec is the Nvidia of cleaners. TOP NOTCH!
Another classic video dude, than thing was screaming, (no more) 😂🏍️💥
hey matt! happy birthday !! to be honest i love honda they are the best , but besides from that , its a trail commuter bike , not a trail bike or cross bike and the 70 s cross bikes are also pretty hefty still at todays standarts , heavyer and bulckyer but damn powerfull if 2 strokes like your cross bike , you should try to find one 250 from that era and have a go at it , youd be surprised . have a good one and just so you know , i love your vids and hope to soon se you pig rebuild !!
Happy B-Day!
That’s a postie bike.
Used by Australia post since Honda made them.
There are numerous postie bike rally’s in Australia, there’s one that does the Simpson Desert.
You can’t kill these bikes unless you set out with that as your objective.
For anyone doubting the trail 90s ability, look up ed march.
Well Matt you sure can ride, I have enjoyed your video. Thanks
Happy birthday dude! Had a quick wtf moment your bro hopped on camera at 1:42. Thought you did a costume change.
Just found out about you and loving every single video
Awesome as always...
Hey there Im 55 this year and just letting you know that’s my old Honda trail 90! Look after her her names Jess !
I bet that thing would get better traction with some nobby tires on it
For sure, tires were shot.
That one has a crazy collector base and you'll get hate mail if you fuck it up too bad.
Unfortunately probably true, but those bikes are made to ride into the ground and build back up, fuck it
He’s using it for what it was designed to do….. it is a “trail” 90 after all right? Not a “collectors” 90 or a “sit in the garage and stare at it” 90 😂
Banger after banger!!!
Awesomeness 💚
Dude what the hell!!!!
I had 5 of those just sold the last 2 last yr they were in perfect condition, got $4,500 for thr pair ! This is awesome
The 1983?-1985 Atc110 engine and atc125(idk which years) make really good engine swaps in these with not too much modification to make them work, and they both still have hi/low range. The 110 has no battery to rely on, the 125m has a battery and electric start. Huge power gains and no more points ignition
Good to see these young whipper snappers wrenching instead of playing on thier phones.
another great vid!
Great video.
Thanks!
bro is a total vibe
There is NO DOUBT Michael is your brother.
Genius idea for vid,
Very interesting
🤘🏻 🌟 🤘
Anyone that told you that was one of the most capable off road bikes back in the early '70s was smoking something that altered reality. They were great little bikes for riding on the street and easily to medium off road but nothing hard like your other bike was meant for.
this is my favourite type of adventure
Was not prepped for him to go from saying "brother" to "babe"
Caught me off guard
hahahaha
At least they acknowledged they should have been wearing gloves when working with carb cleaner
😂 You know what they say? You meet the nicest people riding a Honda, off-road, in sandals 🤙
Am I the only one that noticed the gas leaking out of the carburetor once you got it started 😂
eeeeeesh. Gas leak has since been sorted out.
@@MattSpearshell yeah 🙌 great content
Honda 50'70'and 90's are indestructible I had a few Honda c90's as winter hacks and they were one hundred per cent reliable just a new spark plug oil air and oil filters and maybe ignition points and you have the ideal winter hack so you can keep your pride and joys garaged and out of the winter salted roads that kill bikes and still have a laugh although you get wet and frozen the joys of all year biking.
I remember being 20 something. I was immortal then too!
In my neck of the woods the CT's are affectionately called postie bikes because the postman uses it to deliver the mail.
Woah that is cool
Where is that? Sounds awesome!
I’d love to ride a ct90 in a trial, I reckon it’d be a good laugh on the easy route
Yea, the motorcross stuff is fine and all.. im more impressed with the sandeled socks and the ever so present over exuberant smile.. just need more puppies from the other videos and im golden..!
(edited).. just want to add.. much love..no hate..tongue in cheek.. keep being you my dude.
What's up Matt? Love your content, man. Just saw a couple old Inside Enduro videos you were on when i was researching Lucioli tubes. Do you still work with them?
Yeah I still do, just in a very different capacity. I am still the trail builder for Silver Kings.
The CT deserves a new rear knobby tire and a part2
