    I binged the entirety of the Hades Hangmen series this year and I loved it, Tillie Cole became one of my favorite authors due to that and her Fallen series. I also read the first 7 or 8 volumes of Giant Days. I finished the last 5 or so Immortals After Dark series too and that has moved it's way up into my favorite series lists. I just love the overall plot. I NEED Nix's and Thad's stories like now lol

    Ok, so another long one from me...
    I tend to binge read most series' that I'm interested in. There's so many books of all types both other series and standalones in so many genres I'm interested in that most of the time I'm happy to do it that way, and in particular, I refuse to read any book with a cliffhanger that is part of a series until completion (ie All The King's Men duet). And If I end up reading a book where it's not made clear that it ends in a cliffhanger with the follow up not yet available... not pretty!
    My preferred habits are partly because of previous experiences of being left hanging sometimes for a few years (admittedly mostly UF), partly OCDish (I'm sure) and partly because of the sheer amount of other options available. I tend to wait for a series to be completed and then read all the books in the right order (including novellas and short stories - yes this is so important too!) mostly back to back, sometimes taking a break midway through a longer series to pick up other stuff. I'm also a one book at a time person (unless I have a non-fic audio on the go at the same time) and am not really interested in having multiple fiction books on the go at a single time. These all tend to be my preferences for my genres of choice; romance, fantasy, mystery, sci-fi, apocalypse/dystopia.
    I will sometimes break one or more of these habits if
    1) what I think is or actually starts as a standalone then turns into a short series (ie my beloved Wolfsong by TJ Klune, or An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard). In these cases, most often each time a new one gets released I'll re-read the previous books first (or just skim read if there's a lot of them)
    2) each book is not connected by a metaplot (mostly CR for me) and each one individually speaks to my trope/character/plot preferences etc
    3) a series already has a high number of books available even if it's not yet complete and I'm _desperate_ to experience the overall metaplot (Shifters Unbound by Jennifer Ashley already had 11+ books out when I read it)
    4) only one of the plots/tropes/character types of the series is of interest to me/or has been sold to me by a review (this happens a lot with CR)
    5) I'm dipping my toes into a particular author/type of story and go for the book in the series that is most appealing to me (recently with HR which I've not read very much of due to my very contemporary sensibilities so am trying out Beverly Jenkins, Tessa Dare, Courtney Milan and a few others just one book at a time)
    But, I'm also a bit odd in that I will finish most series even if I don't love them so long as I don't hate them... and that is due to FOMO! I know this all makes me very different from most readers of series, and I have to admit that sometimes it's hard to stop myself picking up certainly sparkly new releases esp. CR, but with so much out there, it just wouldn't work for me any other way and would ruin much of my reading experience. This is very similar to my TV viewing habits tho... not sure what it says about me overall lol! TFS :)

    • @LaceyBooklovers
      @LaceyBooklovers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am also a stickler for reading in order and reading all the novellas! Goodreads is my lifesaver when it comes to reading books in order 😂
      I’m used to super long series because the ones I discovered when I first started reading romance were already 10+ books long (BDB & Psy-Changeling) and I always just wanted MORE. But I will say the one series that intimidates me is the In Death series... 50 freaking books and it’s still going strong!
      Also, I really want to read the Shifters Unbound series!!

    • @vamps_rock
      @vamps_rock 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LaceyBooklovers 🙂 Good to know I'm not _too_ much of an anomaly... I agree re the In Death series and 20+ books doesn't put me off like a lot of readers but 50 and ongoing... that IS scary and I also have no patience for never ending series😀. Also, Shifters Unbound is a winner for me not because of the romances as some are pretty bland but because of the world and plot and well... Feline Shifters!!! I'm a cat lover, what can I say 🤣🤣🤣

    Hi, Lacey! I would like to recommend you some books. I haven't really seen anybody talking about them and I think you'll like them. So, kind of a long post coming. I'm such a completist when it comes to series. I start off trying out the one or two books that sound the best to me. I tell myself I'll try it out to see if I like the book or care enough about the other characters to continue. However, even if I don't like the books at first, I always finish the series in hopes that it gets better. There tends to be at least one book that takes me by surprise. Usually I just end up hate reading them (Looking at you Pucked series by Helena Hunting....i HATED this series with the exception of Lance's story, which I honestly would not have discovered had I not been hate reading
    One of the series I most enjoyed this year was the Hearts series by L.H Cosway. I was originally only nterested in the first two. Of course I finished them all within a week and was surprised with how much I enjoyed every single book!
    Also, the Jennifer Ashley series sounds great

    • @LaceyBooklovers
      @LaceyBooklovers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s pretty impressive! I admire your determination to finish lol. Usually I’ll give it up if I’m not interested in any of the upcoming books’ characters. I’m almost the same with the Pucked series! Book 1 was a DNF but I listened to the rest in audio and enjoyed them, and loved Lance’s too.
      The Hearts series is such a good choice! A really underrated series (and author) I think more people should try. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

      @@LaceyBooklovers Actually, Ilona Andrews rec'd it on their blog and that's how I heard about it. It's fantasy romance, not without its flaws, but something about it just worked for me. If you liked Kingmaker's Chronicles by Bouchet or Warprize, I think you would enjoy it as well. :)

    I am interested in the Dark Mafia Prince books. I think I have book 1 on my kindle. This year I fell hard for the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team books by Paige Tyler. I read books 1 through 9 and am currently reading book 10 Wolf Rebel. This series gives you romance, paranormal and suspense and I feel like Paige Tyler does a great job with all three elements. The SWAT team is in Dallas and is made up of werewolves, and they are all one big super close family. As you read you get to know this big family more and more even the pets.

    Depends on my mood. I hate series and can't stand them most of the time . Especially the ones about the same characters. And any series has more than 3 books in it is a Big No for me. Unless I truly care about the characters which is what happened in Monsters and Gargoyles Series. I loved every book in it and the new release is my most anticipated book in 2020 . hopefully we get more than one book next year

      To be honest if I ever read a series it will be a paranormal romance. This is the only way that I will torture myself with series 😁 Monsters and Gargoyles is about different Greek mythology characters in every book but if you ever want to try it I suggest you read them from the beginning.
