If you can make one that folds at a relative pricemark and waterproof beacon, this could very much be the most popular vlogger drone! Drone shots always were cumbersome for me for our vlogs, because I wanted to be part of the action. Being tied to my drone made a lot of moments less special with my attention split.

Amazing idea! Though it likely also uses visual triangulation… hence, he needs to paint his body onto that FPV drone to trigger people recognition.
@@dinoscheidt Why? It’s supposed to be able to track even when the subject is hidden behind obstacles. The whole “freak out” moment by the cliff was more likely a result of the signals from the beacon being blocked by the cliff since it’s too thick (radio frequencies tend to get blocked by thick solid objects, like walls). Personally, I’d love to see a flight chase scene. Make it happen, Gene!!!
36 mph may not be fast enough to keep up with an FPV kwad, but the Mavic 2 would be a good subject for it.

As a blind content creator I have never had so helpful camera. In blind content creation AI, ML, computational photography, premade modes are very good things because this is the only things which can help us create alone and be sure we are actually in the frame. And the team is mega supportive! Go Skydio!!!

I've had this drone since day 1 it's been out for a couple of years, and I've actually had their first drone called the Skydio R1 as well from a few years ago that one had 13 cameras as apposed to the 7 cameras that the Skydio 2 has so way more than the Skydio 2, I have a ton of footage on my channel but...the Skydio 2 crashed on me twice and it was an expensive fix! It will NOT avoid thin branches or cable wires so keep that in mind. Overall it's pretty good but not perfect you need to be careful where you launch it from to make it follow you. The Skydio R1 fwiw had never crashed on me. Mind you both these drones also do NOT avoid moving objects..nice video btw

@@1031Six thx, yeah I have a ton of footage with skydio 2 and the original Skydio R1 if you look through my videos you'll find quite a few.. I always supported this company because their product is pretty good, actually it's almost perfect. I follow these guys before they even had a product out, right when they came together from MIT and started putting the R1 product together, I can't wait to see what Skydio 3 brings to us..

Pro Tip: When you hand catch it, make sure it the front side (camera) faces away from you. That way, the propellers are on the top (on the backside) and it's wayy safer! Great video, incredible drone 🤙
If you have a group of people riding, like motor cross racing and they each had their own Skydio, how many could you have before they crash into each other? That would be a fun test. :)

I still prefer the higher quality imagery of DJI, but the autonomous technology of Skydio is pretty awesome. I've seen videos of them testing it out for security scans of facilities where they set a flight plan for it and times for it to fly out and it will detect any type of movement on the site and report it and then return automatically to it's charging launch pad. It's definitely gonna be a more prominent thing in the future, whether it be for government or just basic security for complexes of any type. DJI will undoubtedly step it up soon and compete in this category as well.
You use dji for filming cinema and you use skydio for follow me. This is for go pro users not necessarily videographers.
Want to film an episode sunset fly a dji. Want to film yourself riding a one wheel or electric skateboard fly a skydio.
It could be good as surveillance for the southern border/wall.

By far the best AI drone out there but still with limitations. I lose it ALL the time in the trees even with the beacon because it can't find me and it takes too long for it to figure out how to get back to me since I'm still going. I end up losing the signal and have to backtrack to the drone. If you are around wires or thin leafless branches, have it stay at 6 o clock and go slow. I really enjoy your channel!
Honestly this is the drone I think a lot of action channels should use but I still think I'm going to order that Mavic 3 when it's announced in a few days. Great video Gene and team!!!

LOL. The first time I started to use mine, I was very nervous. About the 5th flight I had it tracking me while on my Rad Rover bike and on a bike path through the woods, it tracked spot on. If it does lag a bit trying to figure out how to get through branches, and it finds it's way through, it is scary fast when catching up. Such awesome tech. Good video guys, as always. Cheers

Q4, 2022: DJI acquires Skydio
The beacon aspect is definitely smart. Looking forward to seeing this technology improve even further but now it already looks pretty great. The main thing I'd like would be a camera robot that walks around like that Boston Dynamics Spot with a beacon setup instead of a drone. That would be amazing. ;D
Tip for hand catching. Take off the props and soak them in Detol (disinfectant) re-install and hand catch. This way when it bites you (as it did to me yesterday) you may not get an infected wound or (in my case) wounds.
I have one I was on the waiting list for a good while but I got it I tested it along side DJI Mavic Air 2 Mavic Pro 2 and Mavic Pro for tracking and Skydio 2 it kicks butt and long battery life and the battery doesn’t fall out while flying landing. It will fly between cables leaf’s twigs better than DJI and it won’t fly in the night. You need a lot of street light. It’s not designed to do all DJI does, it’s more for fun and advanced activity in tight terrains. Watch other Skydio 2 videos and you’ll see the diff in your beginning experience 🤗
Back at around 2010 or something, I think that drones were just starting to hit niche markets. I had an idea for a drone which just followed you around basically on its own. I thought you could connect it to your phone or another device and it would use the Bluetooth signal to track you and follow you or something. I thought that it would be really cool if hikers, snowboarders, skiers or vloggers in general could get aerial shots of themselves without having a drone operator with them. Ah...if only I knew how start a business at 19..
Hopefully you can take that as a personal lesson that ideas are not unique, just execution! And be aware of your circumstances at 19 and lack of skills and knowledge to engineer, get funding for a damn autonomous drone all by yourself....that's a fantasy :) The amount of people that say this same thing about PayPal and Uber and basically everything....

i think it just needs like, a larger sensor, or a 180 sensor maybe? so that it can stabilize really well and keep the subject in frame, and then also work out that little kink about nodding when the subject jumps - but i love it i thnk its awesome

I spent like an hour combing through google maps, I finally found that spot on the beach. I can go to sleep now! Noise is definitely a factor in this area.. beware of the drone police!
Skydio2 started with $999 only (basic kit) it was only recently when they up their price. I got the sport kit and I only paid $1300, super worth it!!!
I have several drones including the Skydio. If I could only own a single drone, it would be the Skydio. But I do wish it had a better camera and controller. But the ability to get shots of yourself without just parking the drone like an aerial tripod is great.
Ok I'm sold. I need a drone to flow my 2022 tundra out in the desert and hills!!!!!

the 2 best reviews i've seen that were absolutely crazy, one guy went on an electric skateboard or one wheel in town and it was dodging power lines. small town so no cars or people but still very impressive. Power lines are no joke.
the other one this guy went biking in the woods even in a crowded path. Was shocked it could make it go through the trees.

This was meant for exactly for me; wants drone to follow me off road but don't want to spend my life learning to fly a drone. I pre-ordered one but while waiting for it I ended up moving to the UK and the Skydio is not certified to fly here. BUMMER! I ended up canx my order. Hopefully it can get over the pond someday!
That kind of drones i like for outdoor activities, outing, camping or maybe indoor like parties.

I never use the controller because you feel disconnected from the drone, as it does not respond proportionally to your stick inputs. Range is poor so again another negative against using the controller. BUT this drone is without a question amazing for autonomous flight and obstacle avoidance.

Adding the controller makes a whole lot of sense. Make sure you edit the rates a bit but overall this drone is excellent.

I love my skydio 2! No drone is in its class (autonomous). You do need the beacon working with the phone for optimal footage. But the footage is amazing. And in many situations it can rival a fps drone
Potato so late to the party. I am glad you like it. If you like it I know it's good. The funny thing it has limitation once you know them you fly accordingly. People who hate on the skydio2, I feel expect it to be a race drone that will follow you without a mistake. But I am happy you addressed its limitations and know the tech is crazy good.

Wow I really loved the way how easy it seems to operate this drone. Just adjusting the angle and distance while driving a bike. If you have more extra pair of batteries you can vlog entire travel videos.... It will be fun to travel with this drone.

The range is not great compared to DJI, but in terms of flying it into areas that make me very nervous flying DJI, it is absolutely amazing.

This would be perfect for tracking watersports, like skiing and wakeboarding. It's really hard to focus on flying a drone with everything else that is going on in a boat while someone is on the water. Plus we rarely go over like 25mph on the boat and when you are on the river you have tons of open space and not much to crash into. I just wonder if that beacon is waterproof.
I don't think a water proof bag should be a problem.

Awesome drone and great review. My only gripe is that when you review 60fps technology it's a shame you don't make a 60fps youtube video. All those camera movements looked so sexy, but the jerky video really detracted from it. If you're intentionally going for a "cinematic" look with 24/30fps, then perhaps you could mix that footage with some 60fps footage so we can see what the drone is actually capable of.

I assume that the drone got some new firmware updates in this time and got better so i want to see if the drone evolved at the tracking abilities. So not too late just an update of the drone. :D
