  • The Invisible Man (1933), directed by James Whale.
An early adaptation of H. G. Wells' homonymous novel, written in 1897.

The howling wind + Claude Rains' voice - musical score = Freaky

This movie always stood out to me as a horror film. Probably the coolest of the Universal "Monsters" in my opinion.

I love the Invisible Man.....special effects not bad for the 1930's. All the scary/monster movies from that era were great! Frankenstein, The Wolfman, Dracula and The Mummy plus Tod Browning movies. They definitely don't make em like that anymore

Yeah! Lon Chaney's work IMO was beautiful to me. Especially his phantom. You should see it if you haven't!

@@shepsfield if u mean the silent version of Phantom of the Opera, you are right. That was a great movie, very well made. I saw a few more of his silent movies and they were great also. One was East of Zanzibar (or maybe West) lol. I saw it once long ago and never saw it again. I can't remember the name of the other one.....where he's crippled as a child from an accident and goes bad because of it......he actually walked with buckets on his knees to play the role convincingly though it cost him a lot of pain. You just can't find actors like that today...and they didn't get paid that well and had none of the perks these actors get today.

@@celenacasciani8500 yeah! i'll have to check them out some time. Older movies are extremely interesting to me (especially silent films) because one has to portray more without the touches of modern color/sound design or sound/words at all.

@@shepsfield i read some where that the best films were made in the 1930's. Check out The Spiral Staircase with George Brent and Ethyl Barrymore. And there were 3 versions of Jekly and Hyde....first one was silent with John Barrymore superb acting there and Frederic March in the second one. Last one was Spencer Tracy......every movie was great.

@@celenacasciani8500 yeah! I read the original book, still one of my favorites to this day, and i'm looking for more good adaptations! i'm still novice in the sort of fandom around older movies, so these reccomendations are wonderful!

Fun fact: John Carpenter has said this is one of his favorite horror movies :)
And Rains was destined to play this role, his voice is awesome!
