I may still have the commentary video of this episode. He mentioned in it that he's calls the leader of the gang Henry during the whole review, only to realize that Henry was the boyfriend character.
26:02 - 26:36 And the fact Uwe Boll can't take criticism that he feels the need to start fights and show off his skills in boxing to prove he's an artist. Real mature, pal.
Doug knows all about A Clockwork Orange, it's one of his favorite movies. I think his specific feeling about the montage in The Purge is that it's not a smart enough movie to justify trying to be artistic the same way.
50:38 - 52:34 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣One of the most hilarious sketches with Pinky and the Brain ever! I still can't believe Doug pulled this off with Maurice Lemarche and Rob Paulsen. We need more of The Brain swearing at Pinky for his screw ups.
17:11 oddly enough i would'nt be surprised if that were a roundabout way of showing why the purge doesn’t work. People will always say, hitting a pillow would calm you, but studies show hitting pillows and similar outlets, actually increased aggression because you'll be predisposed to constantly wanting an outlet for bottled up anger or something like that They say in the movie, it works and crime decreases because people are naturally aggressive. But what if there are those that just NEED to purge right now no matter the day? What about those that will just say fuck it and do crime anyway? And its not just murder but illegal trade and such. There are certain practices that would benefit from like, cocaine being illegal and being traded in secret than they would if it weren’t, because otherwise there'd be no market.
I highly recommend you guys watch his video: The evolution of the purge movies. He give more of his thoughts on the trilogy since at the time he made the video the fourth one was about to be released.
The only bad thing that happened to me in 2022 was that I got diabetes other than that yeah the purge is dated and stupid but that’s Michael bay in a nutshell
40:52 From Dusk Til Dawn had a thing like that with the cross shotgun, not exactly the same, but similar concept. Also damn effective against vampires.
One time both gene kelly and Malcolm MacDowell where at a party. McDowell went to introduce himself gene just looks at him and walks away turns out he was upset because Stanley never paid him for using his song
Me: Yeah, the first Purge movie is pretty dumb, but at least as dumb say, I don't know, a Civil War movie that has California and Texas as allies. A24 Studios: Coming soon to theaters, a Civil War movie where California and Texas are allies. Me: SON OF A B*@*&H!!!!
"We're gonna make a movie where all crime is illegal across the country for a day" "Oh cool so what happens " "We stay in a single house the entire movie " "......what"
21:00 quirks are merely there for a character trait, they don’t matter in the story. It is a pointless detail. It doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Not every detail in the world needs an explanation
You know why the idea of the purge wouldn't work? Its because, and the final movie proves this, you can't trust people to follow this rhetoric. In the last movie, the main conflict is people continue to commit crimes even after the purge is over. For this idea to work, you would need to have a lot of faith in your fellow man not to commit crimes outside of the purge. But as humanity has proven throughout the centuries, we just don't work like that. How does that old saying go? "Give someone an inch, they'll take a mile"? I guarantee you that if the purge was a real thing, no one would just limit themselves to one night a year to commit crimes. You simply cannot trust anyone to stick to it because human beings are prone to do what they're told not to do if provoked enough. It goes all the way back to something as simple as telling a child not to take a cookie from the cookie jar. If you tell someone that they can't have or do something they want, they're still gonna do it, consequences be damned. Even in real life with the threat of prison time or execution as a punishment for committing crimes, that doesn't stop people from committing crimes. Hell, it doesn't even have to be about crime: you tell someone that if they keep smoking they're gonna get lung cancer, they're probably still gonna keep smoking. Bottom line: the purge wouldn't work because just because you tell people not to commit crimes outside of one day a year, they're just not gonna listen.
@@matthewelliott7294 That's also a good point. They just recently approved for Bible studies to be put in place in schools in Texas. The purge would definitely never go over well with religious people
It’s so hilariously ironic that Film Brain looks and feels more terrifying than Henry in the movie😂 Despite NC’s flaws he’s almost always creative and delivers comedy gold.
@@Eccegato ah that's why I vaguely remember hearing about that bud forgot where I heard it. It's been so long since I watched that video but the info still rolling around the ol noggin lol
Oh yeah and speaking of The Purge i'd like to see The Purge video games but only if they were treated with love, respect, and care and if they wouldn't be ruined by greed and wokeness like all modern video games have been and still are being
I'm not sure which one of The Purges I've watched. I do know that one of the characters were very stupid and I now I refuse to watch any future film about the purge.

It was at this moment that Critic knew…
…he made one of the best decisions in his life!
😁
I may still have the commentary video of this episode. He mentioned in it that he's calls the leader of the gang Henry during the whole review, only to realize that Henry was the boyfriend character.
Yeah I remember that 🤔.
His name is The polite leader

That exact description could also apply to HBO Velma!

28:43 the one line from the review that lives rent free in my head for whatever reason.
Also the bird by the fountain bit lol
The interesting thing is while Doug hated the first film, he found the sequels to be much better.
I'm sure most people did.
Just like everyone else.
17:11 oddly enough i would'nt be surprised if that were a roundabout way of showing why the purge doesn’t work.

Yes I agree. That video is a good watch.
I’m so glad you guys did this one! It’s been one of my favorite NC reviews for a while!
It's nice to know that Doug enjoys the sequels
19:33 Fun fact, this kid played the antagonistic friend in the Foster's TV Movie: Destination Imagination.

🤣

You need to watch the followup vid on the next three purge movies. It gave a good perspective on his opinion on the purge concept in the later movies.
I wish you guys would do more Nostalgia Critic and Mr. Nightmare reactions, the conversations you both have when you pause the video are great.
40:52 From Dusk Til Dawn had a thing like that with the cross shotgun, not exactly the same, but similar concept. Also damn effective against vampires.
If you wanna see Cree Summer cursing as Penny Gadget review the Nostalgia Critic Inspector Gadget Christmas Movie.
One time both gene kelly and Malcolm MacDowell where at a party. McDowell went to introduce himself gene just looks at him and walks away turns out he was upset because Stanley never paid him for using his song
How the hell did it take me this long to realize that the kid in the movie is Johnny from the Ted series. Oh and the daughter is Tanaya 7 from RPM.
Yay more critc of nostalgia
Lol I like that title better
I want everyone to bear in mind that this is the first movie he's talking about. He is a lot nicer to the sequels.
If America did have the purge, I’d just move to Spain, not as much preservatives in their food, calming schedules, and nice jobs opportunities
Now if you think the actual Pinky and the Brain guest appearing here is a surprise, I suggest you see the Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas review

57:55 idk why but that made me laugh 😅 😅.
@Renegades React i have to say is that the Ghost Rider 2 review from Nostalgia Critic is a sort of sequel to this video.
Kinda awkward that it’s currently 2024. Which means according to this movie, we had at least 2 purges so far lol
It just works...

Do you guys plan to react to dougs review of battlefield earth?

Also, The Purge wouldn’t work well with those who believe in the Ten Commandments, and I’m just pointing that out.
