- Nike ISPA is the sportswear brand's experimental clothing and sneaker line driven by innovation and sustainability. From the Road Warrier to Metamorph poncho, these are intended only to appeal to a niche audience. Does that matter? And should you start wearing jacket-tents?

Conceptually it invokes thought and discussion, but in practice - we already have jackets that fit better and convert into shelter. We also have ponchos that can be used like a tarp to rig a shelter. Having to carry sub-pad tent poles is just wild, IMO. It's been done before, but done better.
I appreciate the Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun so much at 9:08. Thank you Ant!
The ISPA Tabi kicks are super tech but I found them incredibly tough to style with anything on my clothes rail - they go well with your 'Lunacore' fits 😎
I don't wear them too much for pretty much the same reason! Space-themed sportswear only
@@ThisIsAntwon Also Kicks-watch 5:14 is that the Merrell MOAB2 sliders..? If not looking very similar, I picked some up for a song off TK a couple weeks back and they are now my 'House and Yard Winter Shoes' :o
Ponchos transforming into tents have been used by various militaries for over a century. Just google Shelter-half or Plasch-palatka.
Nike you GHOULS, make this available in the US
Americans can't be trusted with the transforming power
It was available in the US for several months on the Nike site. It didn’t sell very quickly but did sell out
this is basically a shelter half but made out of high-performance modern material and such, pretty cool stuff
You should check out the old Nike "Every Stitch Considered" line if their glueless constructed shoes are of any interest.
Just in time for my monthly "buy something expensive that you dont need"
There's always room for another jacket...
😂😂😂😂
I missed the clothing reviews. Hope there will be more of them in the future.
From Gucci x The North Face to ISPA's tent jacket, these products all seem to cater to the idea of camping, without actually serving anyone remotely interested in hiking or camping. It's an odd thing, especially since Nike has a lot of experts in functionality and worked with people like Errolson for ACG. Not that I don't like experimentation - quite the opposite - but this "exercise just doesn't seem to serve an end goal.
I've also bought a few ISPA items in the last years and the quality is always "aspirational, but not there". Their latest vests felt very plastic, the tabi toe sneakers you showed had a very narrow opening to put your feet in and while I hoped ISPA to be the new Errolson type ACG label, it's just not it.
In its current form I think you're right, the Metamorph isn't going to appeal to anyone genuinely wanting to use it for camping (although you can keep it stored in the bag at which point it's a perfectly serviceable 'day-tent'). It feels like a first-gen product, where maybe in future Nike or someone else will iterate or improve on the concept to something that feels more legitimately functional - Nike have shown that it's possible, but it's up to someone else to show that it's practical.
Totally agree on the drifters, they are weirdly hard to get your foot in. That and the difficulty in styling them are their main downsides imo, I think the tabi shape works pretty well.
@@ThisIsAntwon Absolutely. I still wear them regularly and I think with the regular fit borro pants from Maharishi, it works. I'm also very happy that we are still seeing experimentation from a brand like Nike.
The question I'm posing: should such a big company bring out experiments / first drafts for these prices? Frankly, you could make a comparison to Cyberpunk 2077 and how CDPR brought out a "first draft" to the public. We wouldn't want the fashion industry to turn into the gaming industry, because you can't patch a garment (well... you get what I mean haha - sorry Junya Watanabe).
8:40 "I guess i better go" *ad plays
I thought the vid ended lol
Poncho-to-tent reminds me of the the 1992 art piece 'Habitent' by Studio Orta...
Interesting concept. I wonder if introducing tailoring would help. I also think adding more pockets for actual camping gear might bring it more into full “ass-ing” this concept.
The Nike ACG line has def not been doing it for me for a while.
I'm sure if you were willing to increase the complexity of the transformation you could shape it into a more conventional-looking and performing jacket, there is a lot of material to work with after all
It could be cool in a festival setting where you want to plop down somewhere and take a break and chill.
The Drifter Gaiter felt VERY close to something in the "niche innovation" department, but never considered their demographic: cyclists. A lot of cyclists have specific shoes to go with their bike and you couldnt reasonably have your cycling shoes AND the drifter gaiter as someone who might actually WANT to protect their legs while cycling. Little details like that have always made ispa more "wow thats cool" and not "gotta get that"
I'm one of the 50 people who remembers Nike AAE. I still have a couple of the pieces too, the vest and the hoodie.
FINALLY!! Need to keep it coming. ISPA?
Wanted to see this jacket in action the moment I first saw it on FP, nice one bud!
I mean they need to do stuff like this, interesting pieces like these are what drive people to the brand
You dont need 4 walls for camping if the climate is good, there are no high ammount of mosquitoes and your sleeping bag is rated for the temperature. Ive camped without tent a few times :) its called vivac. Some roof to protect you from humidity is more than enough in chosen situatiobs
I'm a huge fan of ispa despite the fact that the line isn't as performance heavy as it is made out to be.
Kinda reminds me of what PAF does aesthetically, very much influenced by the functionality that we could potentially need in the near future, not necesarilly what we need now
I’m a big fan of this multi-purpose concept for clothes when it’s done right. Though I wonder how many will ever be used as a tent even once.
This also piqued my interest in ISPA, curious what this’ll lead to.
Now I may be weird, but I like the moldy nasty looking ones. Id buy them
you are
Agreed!
Road Warrior Mentioned 🔥 🔥 🔥… too bad I can’t afford it…
I feel you, I assume there are very few on the market now as well. I tried to buy them on release but didn't hit any raffles
@@ThisIsAntwon 😔 some day we will get a 2.0 release and I will just have to eat ice soup for the following week.
This looks like something to wear to a music festival.
How do you like the J1WB-BQ? As someone with a J1B-GT I've been considering it but was put off by it still being a laminate.
The face fabric is really cool, very weighty and structured so it feels like a pretty indestructible jacket. Tbh though if you already have the J1B-GT they're pretty similar, so you might find you'd get more wear out of a different model with a different look/featureset (or at least a different material as you say)
@@ThisIsAntwon Cheers for the response! I thought as much, but appreciate your input. I think I'll save my $$ for some future pants~
Not sure if I am the only one, but I keep having quality issues with ispa shoes, including but not limited to Anglet breaking (isap react low, sense flyknit), insole pierced (ISPA joyride enveloppe)
The little metal poles should poke out the shoulders like wings so they dont hit your legs
Hey Antwon, do you think the Nike Lab ACG alpine jackets will have a comeback at some point?
Almost certainly not, but here's hoping we see another brand/product line execute those sorts of ideas as well as Nikelab ACG was able to
ISPA is GOATED
I think a better test is to walk around the city wearing it while pushing the rest of your gear in a shopping cart or garden cart. Then set up at sunset in a city park. I believe this is the market they wish to reach, but the price point is wrong.
Reminds me of lucy orta's refuge wear
13:54 don't worry me too 😅
Designer bros got inspired by Hogwarts robes i guess lol
The tent and the jacket that nobody asked Nike for. XDXDXDXDXDXD
Love those designs, but not their cost... Where's that infinite money cheat?
dang, bro bought ANOTHER J1
Cool concept but looks really weird as a jacket, surely there is a better way to fold up all that excess material and make it semi-presentable
Is that an Acronym jacket you're wearing at 4:00?
Yes, it's the J-1WB that just dropped recently.
Begging for a 3D print to hold the "door" up
Is that imaginal disk in the background 1:15
I love the ideas, but I think so far, the execution has led to comparitively few good pieces and the prices are very high.
I'm going to make one but try to make it better, BRB going to the walmart fabric section lmao.
Would love to see it!
I honestly think these are amazing but I probably wouldn't end up buying many of them cause money
Homeless, but not penniless.
Vlad the wild camper and his hellhound
I wish I could afford any of this lmao
The tittle and thumbnail looked like bait but you always over deliver with your content. IMO this is cool, lets see how the market answer
death stranding jacket 2
This kind of stuff reminds me of crypto bros. "Researching" and "exploring applications of technology" while solving problems that don't exist and don't actually contribute to any actual scientific discovery
What nike train are you are wearing
Just another trend-driven influencer-targeted concept taken straight out of a catwalk. This is not innovation and definitely not sustainability. It's completely wrong and gets worse the more I think about it. How often you'd wear it? Why is it white if you're supposed to put it on dirt? How do you wash it?
Innovation comes from new and better materials, cheaper ways to manufacture them, more comfortable patterns, hardware that's easier to operate...
Sustainability has to be systemic road to make less goods, of better quality, with no trends, made in fair conditions...
ISPA is just glorified fashion student projects.
Letsss goo
Those shades! 🕶️
P..s. I see an Antwon vid, I immediately press play. That simple 🫶🏼
