I went to eat Korean bbq and this side dish was SO delicious, I couldn't get enough of it 😂 my friends even laughed at me because I kept eating it. When I find those small anchovies I will surely make this! Thanks for the recipe! (If I remember correctly they didn't add nuts in the restaurant)

we , Indonesian called the tiny anchovies is 'Teri medan', sometimes it's cooked and mixed with 'tempe' , nuts, and chili. you can try indonesian version and you won't be dissapointed with the taste.. yummy!!. for the recipe, you could search 'how to make sambel teri medan' 👍. It's really delicious! btw I'm your fan @maangchi.. 😍😍😍
Yes, this is what I thought too! Also kering tempe (dry tempeh); in my house, we usually put anchovies and peanuts into it so this strongly reminds me of that. Have to try making this one though to compare the taste between my home recipe and maangchi's :D
here in the Philippines, we call it "Dilis". But we usually fry it then dipped in soy sauce or vinegar then eaten like a snack. we sometimes add it on our pan fried vegetables. I already had eaten this sweet crunchy anchovies through a Korean friend's cooking and its a perfect partner for rice as well
I am Canadian but I worked in Cholla Nam Do for a year and I LOVED these sweet anchovies! Thank you for the recipe, I am going to make them here in Vancouver.
I tried making these before but it wasn't Maangchi's recipe and it wasn't really good. Second time making it I followed Maangchi's video and it turned out awesome! Everybody at home loved it. I always refer to your videos when cooking Korean food. I have never made a dish using your recipe that hasn't turned out delicious. I'm a big fan!
Maangchi, my mom also made this peanut anchovies. She add chili cut sideway, we also add shalot to make it more fragrant. My mom made it sticky by adding Indonesia dark soy souce (sweet soy souce) and also palm sugar. I always it as snack.. so she made a lot everytime..
In Indonesia, especially at my home, it called "Teri Balado". We did used anchovies called 'teri nasi/teri medan' and peanuts as well. But the taste is a bit different. Not only sweet-tasted, my mom's recipe have spicy-sweety-salty taste. It's sooooo delicious! You must taste it! And now I miss my Mom in heaven :)
Maangchi!!!! Every episode you put out, you always bring me sooooooo much joy!!! Thank you for letting the world see your amazing personality and recipes!! xxxox from Canada
Oh Maangchi I have to tell you a story. I recently found your show when searching how to make kimchi. I recently tried it from a jar, the jar said spicy. It wasn't. So I found your show when searching how to make it at home. So I got the list of stuff you said you used and went to the Asian store and got it. I only made 1/2 a batch just in case I didn't like it. I accidently did not convert the red pepper flakes to the 1/2 batch. so needless to say it was like eating fire LOL. But it only lasted 3 days after fermenting 36 hours. I was craving the flavor. So I made another batch. and finished off 1/2 of it before it was done fermenting. LOL you have created a monster LOL Next will be the spicy squid
haha, now you will understand why Koreans make a big batch of kimchi! When kimchi ferments, we can make all kinds of delicious dishes such as kimchi jjigae (stew), kimchi stir-fried rice, steamed kimchi, kimchi pancake.... so many! Congratulations!
Filipino style.... fry the dried anchovies untill golden brown and crispy..then serve it hot with rice and dipping sauce nothing special just vinegar to balance and cut that salt from the Dilis or anchovies ;) then paired with tomatoes plus fried tilapya, salted egg, mango, cucumber, boiled eggplant and okra plus pork barbecue nyahahha HAPPY FIESTA..
I can't stop eating these snacks! It is perfect with Korean soy sauce this will be added to my favorites. Thankyou so much for these now I need to make second batch for hubby.
This is my favorite side dish whenever I go to my local korean bbq spot. They make it with jalapeños as well and it is so good. I can't wait to try making it at home. Maangchi you are the best ❤
I miss fried anchovies and peanuts so much since my doctor says I have to avoid it for a long time, when he finds out that my uric acid level is high. But, I like watching this recipe just to see Maangchi's way of frying anchovies and peanuts together. Looks yummy 😊😊
Mangchii.. we, indonesian, we have the similar recipe for the anchovy, the difference is we dont use sesame oil n seed, we use fried red chilli.. n we serve it with veggie in sour soup.. i know how it taste, sooo yuuum..
My mom always using sliced almond for nut. And its really good😊 i think its great alternative for peanut allergy people rather than walnut or something cause walnut isnt crunch and the flavor is too strong
I am a filipino and currently living in the visayas. I never knew that this kind of anchovy could be cooked this way. BTW this is locally called "Dilis" and is widely available in every grocery stores here. Will make this next time my family comes over. There are many korean restaurants here and not one serve this kind of banchan.
You still can make this dish with large size dried anchovies. First remove the guts and heads, then split each anchovy in lengthwise . Then follow the recipe.
Hi maangchi you are such a delight to watch. Thank you for always always putting a smile on my face. may you always have a smile on your face. Thank you
Oh my favorite side dish/main dish but my mom always use a little bit more oil with more 🌶s so a little bit red oily and I can eat just one this side dish with rice or my favorite with porridge it is so yummy.
