Well they will not go off crying as if they are sensible they would not just have a retail outlet on eBay . I am on eBay , we love antiques, and I do the fairs . You cannot just rely on one two of the above I continued through the pandemic , I knew dealers who just did the fairs as such the ploughed through savings . All have pros and cons but baiting the bear o don't believe to be particularly wise unless of course you have the financial back up or other income streams . EBay for me for the last 16yrs have been great no issues only with around 10punters and eBay sided with me on 4 . I get my pay outs monthly do as the demand it's there business not mine ,the fees are peanuts to what I used to pay through auction houses and when I had a high st Shop. Just my opinion

Hi Nic and Andrea. One point.....if eBay does not hear from disgruntled sellers such as yourselves, how are they going to know that there is a problem and what it might be? Well done both of you for sticking with this.

I've been on eBay for coming up to 22 years. This year I'm seriously thinking of leaving. I've effectively turned to other selling platforms and set up my own website. Their fees are going up and but their seller protection is non existent. Their returns policy does not even match UK trading standards. Their is no reason to allow a buyer to use an item, break or ruin it and send it back for a full refund within 30 days. It leaves us open to scammers and people who abuse the system. They ask me to take part in surveys, which I do, but nothing ever changes. If they don't change they will grind to a halt because they cannot have buyers if there are no longer any sellers.

1000% agree look at poshmark and mercari both are 3 days or you own the item for life so buyers have 3 days to inspect and bring issues to light if not after 3 days that buyers OWNS the item for life NO returning it 3 days is more then enough time to test out an item or to decided if its as described yep there is no need to have 30 days to decided if the item is as described or if they don't want it and even though Poshmark and Mercari have those 3 day returns it does not detract buyers from buying from those sites Ebay and Amazon and Bonanza all other platforms need to adapt that RETURN policy id be more for having returns on my listings if that was the case with all the other platforms 3 days or its yours for life

Kudos to you both. I really admire your positive attitude. It’s only positive people like you who actually try to achieve change that will get us anywhere. Too easy to get cynical and give up and walk away. As you say you have a chance and you are taking it to try and do some good. Better than not trying at all. There is a reason you are so successful at your business, and that is because you HAVE this can-do attitude, and you have always worked through bumps in the road before. And actually tried to mend the bumps!

One of the drawbacks I noticed straight away with Whatnot is that it only suits a certain sort of seller, the bubbly, outgoing, confident type that is comfortable in front of a camera and audience. If you're the sort of person who thinks they have a face for radio it'll always be awkward.

An associate who applied to sell was told due to a very high level of applications by sellers, they would have to put her on a waiting list and will be in contact on the near future 😂 They need to advertise it, as other than sellers and resellers Joe public is ignorant to it

It’s a bit like a sellers twitter or tic Tok you have to constantly have shows have followers & get your product cheap so you can sell in bulk unless you specialise in high end designer & you have to b okayed for that . I think some are making it work but it’s early days .

My wife and I sold at collector's fairs for 20 odd years. 2.5 days a month, unwrapping and wrapping several hundred times each month. Petrol costs and stall rents as well. I have kept a record of how much we have taken on Ebay and compared the costs of Ebay with the Stall fees and we are taking twice the amount we would have take at a stall event. Great chat guys. I'm not convinced that eBay will take any action in improving their customer service for sellers. As long as they are hitting their profit targets nothing much will change. But like you, I also believe that eBay truly is the best selling platform and dispite any issues, they have helped me no end in finding buyers for my items, putting money in my pocket! Thankfully eBay runs fairly smoothly for me 95% of the time. I guess I just expect it to work. Just like my boiler. I take it for granted until the day I can't have a hot shower and I have a mini melt down! lol. Its good to air our frustrations though. Thanks for sharing your recent experience with us all.

What gets my goat is buyers that dont collect from depot when they are not in and parcel goes to royal mail depot, they ask for refund sometimes in 3 days , knowing they will get refund within 5 days , but royal mail wont allow refund to sellers for at least 10 working days, i give free post so i also lose that and have to pay fees for the non collected parcel, i feel strongly that buyers should be charged if they dont collect their items, i now block anyone who claims non receipt in few days without waiting reasonable time , as fed up of having their item returned to me at my expense, so much wasted time and money all round as they cant be bothered and probably just changed mind , it is easy to get an item re delivered so why do people do this! Grrr

On the question of an alternative for eBay....or doing these 2 things together. Having a small shop in the shed with limited opening hours, is that possible? It will take time to get know by the public, but as a second basket (with the eggs). I transformed my little warehouse at home in a small Cash&Carry for my B2B customers (small pocket money toys)...no rent, no third-party....is perfect.

Ebay woes : refunded buyer in full because delivery attempt 3 times and sat in depot for 1 month uncollected, item eventually returned to me by courier (buyer didn't type flat number) . Ebay charged me final value fees on the uncollected / returned/ refunded item!, he got his postage back too which I disputed.
Called up Ebay twice - conflicting advice from two different people. Asked to escalate, eventually they then refunded me the final value fee (but it was the wrong amount!!!). And after a week refunded my postage (to the wrong Email address!!! which is not tied to my paypal account.)
They have my Paypal account details on my Ebay account why are they refunding payment to another email address?!?
Advisor also said that its ok to send an item to a different address that what Ebay send you!!! - I know from past experience you have to send it to the address provided by Ebay unless seller cancels and reorders with correct address!!
    Shambles!!!!!

Your own website? Does not lean towards generalist reselling. Is much better for niched down sellers such as Edward in Wales with his antique store. High overheads in getting the brand out there and customer visibility via tools such as SEO (another minefield) ......High Street? I think the only viable direct model here is a hybrid e.g. premises for online stock storage but open to public as a local shop. However the major compromise, as mentioned already, is loss of flexibility by being tied to your presence at the store unless you do something not requiring presence such as booth in an antique mall....... Letting others sell on your account, that is the District model I believe. Alternative is selling on consignment, however there is a trade off here i.e. your time listing someones else stuff, next to zero time sourcing and lower ASP versus time spent sourcing and increased profit. I've been trying out a bit of consignment last year but jury out, it's tough selling. say a £20 item and only receiving half after fees. As one of the viewers already mentioned it would be good to set up an ebay seller's pressure group representing sellers needs but for whoever runs that would have to dedicate all their time soley to this.

20:33 Andrea you talked about cancel culture do you think what Fluffy muffin commented that would be considered cancel culture (yet eBay, amazon , even etsy has been known to do this to sellers without notice and no recourse for a decade or 2 now) if eBay does not want be canceled by sellers On social media then THEY need to stop canceling sellers they need to start to give the benefit of the doubt to the seller and make the buyer Prove beyond a reasonable doubt there case not the other way around (where the seller is Guilty until they prove themselves innocent)

Pulled everything off ebay after they did something similar to me. I sell EVERYTHING AT THE LOCAL MARKET. NO MIDDLE MAN. I'm my own boss cash in hand.

I'll always stay as a part time reseller whilst using eBay, there Is no way I can rely on them to not screw me over. Also ebay say small businesses are a priority... then they increase their seller fees. If they take anymore money from their fees, or 'promoted' features which is just another fee as everyone does it just to match other sellers then ebay may as well just take half my earnings

I honestly wouldn't recommend anyone start a business or sell on eBay. Every year it gets worse and worse..

oh and the "100 free listings " thing , for the fees ALL listings should be free , but then you get those who saturate the list with the same item and it becomes very tedious trolling through page after page of the same thing

Ebay no longer allow duplicate listings of the same item and even flag up and remove similar listings and give sellers warning if they list any dulplicates so it has improved a little

so being specific about the vid title goes a long way , for instance being a customer on Ebay is great , until you have a problem , then the process becomes a little complex , but as a seller on ebay , (and without sellers you have nothing ) it seems you have no rights at all , any payment made to you is withheld for up to 30 days ,the fees applied are taken before you see any money at all , the customer can falsley assert "non reciept " or damaged , and they do not have to pay for or return the item , i say pay because any payment is credited back to them !,,,,, i know of several who got burned by customers on Ebay and flat out refuse to do any selling through them again ,,,,, appalling!

Im leaving ebay at the end of this financial year. Etsy is a much better platform for my needs.

Diversify your revenue stream. Sell on other platforms e.g. Vinted for clothes and TechSmart for refurbished mobile phones etc. Don’t be in the position that eBay are your sole source of revenue otherwise they have you by the short & curlies! Ultimately, set up your own reselling website and grow that as you will then not be at anyone’s mercy. Take care & good luck! K x

You should start a TH-cam show, that let seller know what is going on with selling on EBay. Good and bad.

Watching this video.... milking it, stop moaning. If you dont like it, dont watch the videos.
Most of the time your videos are happy and fun but life isnt always happy and fun and bringing issues to Ebays attention is not a bad thing. Most of us appreciate what you are doing. Keep doing it and ignore the criticism.

i'd be "milking it" if ebay caused these kind of issues , they should be investigated by watchdog for their poor standards of customer services, especially to sellers who make them the platform they are.
