ESOTSM and Man on the Moon. I agree. The Truman Show not so much. It was surprising having Carrey in a more serious role, but I'd say Truman was more like a watered down version of his then-usual comedic self. Not that I am complaining, but it was just a first step. Man on the Moon was truly something else and ESOTSM was the real completely opposite of Carrey's crazy onscreen persona.

It'd just turn into a hilarious stand up. The academy is probably afraid he'll kill their depressing straight faced awards, and crack everyone up after winning a dramatic role. Or, he pissed a lot of people off during filming, for example man on the moon was straight method acting and he was a shit head off set stuck in Andy's mind. The fans didn't see his backstage acting but he was an asshole to a bunch of academy members and guess who votes for the awards. Jim won't get an academy award but I still love him.

As an Italian, I am proud that Benigni and La Vita è Bella won those Oscars. But to be fair, Jim Carrey not having even been nominated for The Truman Show was a robbery. And it takes a lot of courage to go at the most important ceremony in cinema industry and joke about yourself, knowing that they would actually laugh at you.
Rare example of actual comedic talent, room full of ‘stars’ realizing that he’s got something they could never learn.

Michael Kahn won his third Oscar for best film editing for "Saving Private Ryan" in 1999 and has working with Steven Spielberg since 1977. There's still nothing else quite like it. And thanks to Jim Carrey, who knew to how lighten up beautifully put together.
Jim had every right to be angry about his snub for The Truman Show, but he showed real class and modesty by attending to present this award. Which Michael Kahn richly deserved.
