Also, since his house can't be sold and is worthless, he shouldn't have to pay any property taxes.

Why aren't the tank manufacturers on the hook? They constructed the tanks to specs for underground storage to last the lifetime of the house. It is a sin that an old retired homeowner with limited income has to shoulder the entire cost burden of fixing the environment.

To take that tact you first need to know is if indeed the tank was sold under the guise of guarantee to last the lifetime of the of the house and "who" precisely makes that "lifetime" determination but even further though is who (precisely) the manufacturer was, lots of luck with that.

@@Peter-V_00 Yea they're stuck. The tank manufacturer is long gone.

The state needs to buy the house from these homeowners it is wholly unfair for these families to pay for the remediation they already pay into via taxes.

Always do a oil tank sweep before buying a property! I learned the hard way. Luckily my bill was only $3500

If they removed contaminated soils to the bedrock but are now dealing with the groundwater in the rock fractures, who's to say the contamination isn't a conglomerate of all the old oil tanks in the neighborhood. They should have that system treating the groundwater 24/7 and test the groundwater a couple times a year to determine a trend as well as look into the history of the neighborhood. If they can determine the contamination is from off-site, combined with what they've already done, they can probably close out this case. At least the property won't get any worse.

Bergen County is the worst in the state with contaminated soil. Been on many jobs throughout the county and everyone has contaminated soil

Talk about chasing your own tail, the first thing when dealing with any type of contamination is identifying the "source" and stopping it, otherwise you can't control anything.

For real. The tank has been out of the ground for 6 years at the making of this video, and there is still oil flowing in? This video is now 6 years old, I wonder what the outcome was.

I wonder what the outcome was too. After watching the Tank Masters on YT, underground storage tanks aren't as scary as NJ made them out to be back in the day.

It's 2018 and I'm sure the problem is still there--just ignored.

The UHOT program is a big scam started by Steve Sweeny.
