I just ordered the y700 2023 version to use for game emulation and I am really glad I did. It is about half the cost and has the micro SD slot. I had watched some other videos and noticed PS2 and Game Cube emulation didn't seem to be much different performance wise , so thanks for the direct comparison to confirm that. Aw yay. I impulse bought a second hand 2023 a few days ago and I'm waiting patiently for it to get to me hopefully next week. I've been a bit gunshy of watching these shootout videos between the two cuz the 2025 clearly has some definite processing power advantages which I'm sure will only improve the gap between them with time. But this video reminded me of the research I did months ago that had left me with the impression that the '23 was still at an advantage on a few fronts. I'm glad I watched this and continue to feel good and excited about getting my new tablet. I'm upgrading from a 12 year old Nexus 7 so this is gonna be sooo sweet. That SD card slot is such a big deal for me, I'm not a hardcore gamer, I want versatility and something I can use for all sorts of things. The storage expansion really is the killer feature decider between the two for me. Plus I've seen some discussion about some of the image post-processing effects baked into the 2025's ROM that make me feel like it's upgrading and pushing the bleeding edge tech envelope just for the sake of it, not because there's anything lacking in the previous gen's abilities. Can't argue with the video decoder speed difference though. I get the value proposition there. Just, not an issue for me. Woo! Thanks for the video.
After getting a redmagic nova, i have caught a bug for emulation again. Im hoping redmagic starts making 8.5-9inch tablets so legion can get some competition. The small tablet space needs more competitors. Im waiting on a few more videos from creators before i make a decision on this, though. Thanks for the hard work and video.
Hi. I bought the 2023 model due to a ton of research between the 2023 and 2024,2025 models. Every conclusion i found indicated the 2023 model to be mostly equal or i should say that the 2023 was equal to better nearly every time. So the number one reason went with the 2023 having the invaluable expandable storage. Whilst I researched gaming, I'm however not a gamer. I speak from a flagship overall performance level i found the 2023 to be the one to go with whilst you still can. Save the money. 2023 is running Android 14 and ZUI 16. Great review! Get the 2023!!!!

I don’t know if that is something I plan on doing, but you can check out my Retroid pocket 5 setup guide as all Android devices will have a very similar emulation setup process.
I got the 2023 for emulation and the SD Card but now because of the screen size I'm playing android games which i couldn't get into on my smaller phone, I wish I got the 2025, I'm not a rom hoarder and don't need a huge collection of retro games I don't play so the SD card is not that important.

I don’t have numbers for battery loss in more average scenarios on hand at the moment.
The truth is that the Y700 2023 has a problem: if you set the screen to 144hz performance mode, some games cannot max the frame rate. You have to adjust it to 120hz to get the max frame rate. like game zzz on video i guess if you set screen to 144hz it will be locked at 48 fps
If that’s true that would explain the weird behavior I had in zzz! I will have to check that out when I get back home on Monday. I will pin a comment with corrections if that’s the case.

2. Does the keyboard/controller suppport works with specific games? Like does keyboard mapping works with an emulator etc
I replied to another comment somewhere but in benchmarking in the performance mode they had a similar battery loss that would end up being about 4 hours battery life in absolute worst case scenario running a demanding game in the performance mode. I don’t have numbers for battery loss in more average scenarios on hand at the moment.
Controller touch mapping works pretty much anywhere as you are just simulating taps and swipes on the screen.
Thanks for replying, would be checking out more content from you❤
The truth is that the Y700 2023 has a problem: if you set the screen to 144hz performance mode, some games cannot max the frame rate.
