Hi Teacher Nick, I wrote the paper 2 today. For Question 2, I totally forgot about the 600-900 word count and wrote about 400... does Cambridge deduct a set number of marks for not following the word count? I wrote a review and included all "necessary" aspects. Thanks!
Hi @gabrielakessler769 - It is not as serious as you imagine. Yes - you will be penalised. It is basically how well did you achieve the task set. The examiner will assess your work overall and not just on your wordcount. My suggestion - put a pin in it! The exam is over and it is not a train smash. Focus on your other exams. You cannot change anything now. I know you might be beating yourself up - don't. This happens more than you realise. Examiners are not monsters - they are teachers and will give you the best mark available. Deep breath - and carry on. You are going to be fine.🤗

Crazy Teacher Nick please help: in p2 q1b should write the reflective commentary in the same way as we did in p1 q1b, but minus the original text. So basically should we structure it like this: 1 paragraph for key conventions, 1 paragraph for (2) structural devices, and 1 paragraph for (2) language devices?

How did I show I addressed the conventions of the text type? What structural features did I use to achieve the task set by the question? What Language devices did I use to achieve the task set by the question? Remember - you only have 60 minutes maximum for this question. If you haven't practised writing this question - you may have to be strategic and limit your 1b. The instruction for 1a is to write no more than 400 words. This is because Cambridge is aware that the average student can only write between 600 and 900 words per hour. This is a guide for 1b. Aim for around 200 - 300+ words within the given 60 minutes. Excuse me Mr Nick, I recently wrote english paper 1 2024 october/november and we were asked to write a diary, however i made the grave mistake of forgetting to include my sign off at the end of the diary using my name, and the diary i wrote was relatively decent. I wanted to know how many marks will be deducted from me from the 10 marks that were offered.
