That's okay. I had to use a "destroylette" a toilet that use propane to burn everything. So, I understand the little kitty's curiosity and concern. Not too different from opening and closing a refrigerator door to try and see if the light stays on when you close it. ha ha ha So cute.

I have forgotten the book but there was this memorable section about "dead hippos" and how bad the smell was. I got one for my cat Simon, and when it starts to go on the clean cycle, the darn cat actually climbs back in to see what's going on and stops the whole thing when he comes out eventually it starts again and then he goes back in...entertainment for hours...smh
Self-cleaning litter boxes are actually very bad. If your cat is sick, it will oftentimes be obvious in their excrements (or lack thereof). If you don't see that, you might miss that your cat is ill for ages.

Your cat has a clean litter box, so you would probably only empty the trash compartment when it's getting full. That plus the fact that the cleaning mechanism moves the excrements and may make it harder to notice oddities make them something I'm rather wary of and advise against. It may very well be possible to be safe while using this item, but I don't think everyone puts enough thought into it. So, whenever I see someone promoting these litter boxes, I leave a comment informing/reminding people of the potential harm :)

I try to buy from local businesses as much as possible. I don't see a lot of advertising in my daily life, the most i see are billboards and posters and usually i just walk right past them. The ones i do look at purposefully are usually about museum expositions, new movies in cinemas and plays in theatres. And honestly, it's absolute bliss. There was a time that i just put up with adds and holy f these things really bombard your brain... Not going back to that. If i need something i'll find out when i miss it. And then i'll do my own research for what's the best purchase for that use. And besides, you can't miss what you don't know about.
My cat had a self cleaning litter box and when it commenced the cleaning cycle he’d would come rushing from wherever he was to watch it in fascination. Sadly he is no longer with us

I have one too, her name is Cassy. I call her Raisin Bread lol She's smart like this cat too. She even thinks she wants to brush her teeth and use the toilet.
My cat looks like this one and would probably react the same way as well. In fact, I had to remove the swinging door on a new litter box because he literally would not use it otherwise.
The first Litter Robot that I bought in 2014 (I'm guessing), I set it up in the hallway and put litter in it for a test. I had about seven or eight cats then, mostly young to middle-aged, and I almost split my sides laughing as they investigated it. Finally, one of the big tomcats jumped in and discovered it was full of cat litter and promptly put it to use. My second one, I had a small tomcat who thought it was a cat cave and jumped in and slept on the clean cat litter, not understanding that he was supposed to use it to poo.
