excellent overview, i've only been researching supply chain issues for a few days, but already getting a semi-good handle on it ... we've all known MS and other big player systems are bloated and clunky, yet it's always the trade-off of finding something that's bespoke and nimble, yet also trustworthy and can stay integrated long-term - definitely always a quagmire on the horizon. ty !

Big software vendors are setting up starter packs to reduce implementation time, making it easier to adopt and grow with the solution over time. We see a lot of big players entering the Medium sized market where pure growth is. Big companies are in one way of the other already equipped (with exceptions of course).
Big players are also moving towards flexible integration built-in platforms providing easier integration with the customer ecosystem/best of breed (Oracle Redwood, SAP Design, etc). Have your base platform and single source of truth while being able to integrate best-of-breed platforms on top matching specific needs/technology. There is no one size fit all, companies need to find the type of technology and vendors that fit their purpose/strategy.
Whereas smaller vendors are usually focused on doing a few things very well. In uncertain times, they cannot always bring decades of expertise, proven technology, and financial stability. Not to mention making a 'spaghetti salad' of your IT landscape.

This video sparked memories of the 90’s (let’s see if the fashion comes back). When I started my career in IT Consulting, the ‘best of breed’ approach and middleware integration were the key buzzwords - there were no cloud applications but there were ‘application service providers’ - the nomenclature has changed but the key component that will always be constant but is often overlooked ‘business process engineering’ and ‘operational alignment.’

Big vendors like Oracle and SAP will need to be nimble to avoid becoming roadkill on the highway of change!

Sounds like the 4As ad agencies back in the 2000s when they started to make smaller more nimble spin-offs

I've been telling everyone that companies like odoo are about to destroy the industry.
