The Carlin type is new to me. Thank you for this share. Even though I live out of state, I still consider myself a Nevadan from Reno (1960's-1970's education). I learned some geology and gold concepts of Northern California in the Sierra's from my stepfather (from Minnesota-Iowa area). I'm impressed by your education. UNR was the site of one of two "mining concentrations" of studies in the entire country. I loved your video presentation.
My Father in law had a Masters and BA from CU in geology. Found the 2nd largest gold strike in the Davis area in the 80 s. For Homestake . The McLoughlin mine. My Father in laws name was Donald Gustafson. 😎
Great video and explanation of the Cartlin type gold deposit. If you're looking for a great area to tour for geology. You should check out the St George Utah area. This area is dominated by the Pine Valley laccolith (possibly largest on earth). It created iron deposits on its north side, Iron Springs mining district. Silver deposits on the east side, Silver Reef mining district. And Cartlin type gold deposits on its west side, Goldstrike mining district.
13:34 Just a suggestion - In my opinion it would be beneficial to have the mineral's name on screen when you mention it. In this case, the distinction betwen Sericite and Cerussite sent me down a rabbit hole of misinformation before I figured out the correct one haha. I spent two years in mining as a geo in Elko and have learned a lot from this video! Thanks for your hard work putting good info out there.
I'm in the Channeled Scablands, just over the lip from Grand Coulee. Surrounded by all that damned boring basalt. I know there are pockets of other things included here and there, and even apparently some gold deposits worth staking, but not worth keeping not far from me. Any suggestions for finding gold in the basalt? Only things that occur to me are more placer deposits from when the Missoula Floods ripped thru. Looks like I have a bunch of vids to check out, always good to find new interesting content to burn time!
The long story of gold from pre solar system stellar formation to its many happenstance geological processes a limited few of which made it accessible to mining. Thank You for explaining so thoroughly its long complex and fascinating history of just how it was made available to mine.
This stuff is so intriguing. Im no geology major or even own a metal detector yet, my uncle got me into this (but im in fl and he currently in C. Tennessee) I watch a lot of ghost town living vlog and some jeff Williams here/there, but between earthquakes (like the one y'all just had out there) and topography, really intriguing. Appreciate this content.. Thank You. 💯
Curious your take on the Fire Creek deposit? I wish you would have mentioned the decalcification that happens in these deposits and the affect it has on recoveries. As for Carlin style deposits, where else in the world do you believe they exist?
Love the video. Not to be pedantic, but "superconductor" is a specific term referring to zero energy loss, that until now has to be super cooled. Gold might be a "super conductor", but it's not a "superconductor!" Gold's value as a conductor is that it does not corrode like copper or silver (both of which have higher conductivity).
I live in California and I know well not as vast California has huge deserts also is there any chance that these same type deposits that you're talking about I know there's one off the 395 above Mojave but how could California cash in on this
There's an open pit gold mine next to the ghost town of Aurora, Nv (northeast of Bodie, Ca.). Haven't been out there for while so I don't know if it's still active.
Do you have any info on the indigenous copper mines for thousands of years before the euro invasion in Upper Michigan ? Or why lead was not mined by the natives in the wireless area of southwest Wisconsin and northwest Illinois ?
Jeff Williams says Nevada and surrounding areas had an inland sea and was covered in water at one time. Would you agree with him on that Solomon? I love geology and I love gold, silver, and copper! As always thank you for your time and great educational experience.
I was wondering why you were wearing a Wolf Pack shirt after you said you attended UNLV. Thanks for clearing that up. Who owns the gold mines in Nevada? Someone told me several of Nevada's gold mines are owned by companies in Canada.
Cool content. The gold is not in Nv because of geology which is purely acedemic study rather Geological or Geologic proccesses that are discoverd and described via geology. But also.. Astro Physics I do wet and pyro refining
Had to reread the comment a couple times but I think I acknowledge what is meant by the word "processes". Not to sure about the astro physics part tho. Is wet and pyro refining one type of operation or is it 2 different set ups to complete the process.?
ive been trying really hard to get a job at a mine in nevada. I have a geological engineering degree. but it seems very hard to get ones foot in the door.
This is the video I’ve been looking for ! Been wondering for years what happened geologically in Nevada to be gold rich. I live in Western Colorado near Rifle. We are about the same latitude, but no gold. This explains another video I watched recently, about Nevada mining. The video showed the cyanide leaching process and extraction. This is the video th-cam.com/video/fafsQZGEje8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-jFuJVnUgoLH-CTd
California might have more gold, but state regulations & private land make it not cost effective. Nevada & BLM are much more lenient. Arizona? stop in at the best copper museum.
Ya private land doesn’t stop mining it actually helps mining. Look at Utah for instance. Huge amounts of Utah is basically blm land where as only 35% of Utah is private land. But solar farms prefer to use private land in tons of instance rather then using blm land. It’s really absurd in my opinion as I see tons of productive farm land going to be used as solar farms and not be farmed right next to huge swaths of blm land that’s just barren dry flat ground. Using blm land is one way to offset the costs of having so little private land. But ya even solar farms prefer private land. Tons of mining companies like the copper company in Arizona did land swaps to own the land they want to mine. BLM land used to be great for mining but anymore with politics you really need to own land to prevent environmentalists from shutting you down or be less likely to. It’s absurd to think private land is a hindrance to mining when tons of mining operations have been blocked on public lands.
@@koltoncrane3099the constitution states the federal government is not allowed to own land or make a profit. We are no longer a republic. The corporation caps USA with gold fringe flag, does not care about you. Your constitutional rights mean nothing in court. Until people realize the system we live in, we will never be free.
Thanks for watching, and good question! There’s still debate today in the scientific community- so far, we’ve only found true Carlin-Type Deposits in Nevada, but in southern China there are gold deposits that exhibit a lot of the same characteristics as Carlin-Type Deposits, with some key differences. Geologists are still debating whether those deposits in China are true Carlin type deposits, but many fall into the camp of “no” (myself included). In summary, we’ve only found true Carlin-Type Deposits in Nevada, but there’s no reason not to believe that there may be more Carlin-Type Deposits elsewhere in the world waiting to be discovered. If I were to look for other Carlin Type Deposits, a place that sticks out to me is Iran. Iran has similar lithology to a lot of Nevada (lot of sedimentary units from the Tethys Ocean in Iran), the Zagros Fold and Thrust Belt is a classic thin-skinned deformative event (the Roberts mountain thrust in NV that was key to Carlin type mineralization was also a thin skinned event), and Iran experiences active magmatism and tectonism as the Arabian Plate subducts beneath the Iranian Plate (Mt Damavand is one of the highest stratovolcanoes on earth at 18,406’ and it’s right outside of Tehran). Arsenic seems to be a key piece of the Carlin-Type Deposit system, and historically, even since the height of Ancient Persia, Iran has been well-endowed in Arsenic. The very word Arsenic actually comes from Persian- “zar” means “gold” in Persian, but they referred to Orpiment as “zar”, which then was spread to Arabic in the form of “Al-Zarnik” which would eventually spread to English as “Arsenic”. So, Iran’s got a lot of Arsenic, which may also be important. I’m not guaranteeing there is Carlin Type Gold in Iran, but I would think Iran would be my top contender to look for Carlin type deposits outside of Nevada, given its geology and what we know about Carlin-Type Deposits. I could be off my rocker, but these are my thoughts. Of course, the big issue with that is politics…
So you're saying there's gold there eh? My mom lives near Susanville and she says there's gold and geode crystals somewhere there. Do you get into California?
You’re right! Gold itself may not be a superconductor but it is a key component in alloys that are used as superconductors. Such as SrAuSiO3, Gold-Rhenium, Extremely thin Gold Films, and Gold-Silver-Tellurium, to name a few! I should’ve clarified that further in my video. Thanks for watching the video and pointing that out!
Praise the lord for bringing us up in this mineral wealthy land. I read gold can be found lightly, everywhere, even seawater. It's only to extract, gather it economically to make a profit. Volcanoes are found globally, but gold extraction with it isn't mentioned. Maybe it's microscopic also. Yellowstone should be rich with it then. The practice of holding down gold prices reduces the amount produced. The more produced also reduces the price, so maybe it's self balanced.😊
I think places like state parks and monuments are places that most likely have large deposits of gold or other valuable resources there. Like I believe below devil's tower that theres probably a huge deposit of gold down below. And that it has nothing to do with volcanoes or lava.
Excellent video both in content and production quality. I’m a retired Mining Engineer and I learned a lot from this video. Of course, most of my career was in the surface coal mining industry 😅

Very interesting info. Carlin. Yes Round Mountain Big pit mine & Eureka, NV lots of gold there.

We need to hurry up an start mining! Zelesky needs it to pay for his new ski resort in France!
Don't forget the 10% for the big guy.
And a new yacht.
Can you dig gold in navavda .
Good video, but I admit I could not keep up with the graphics. Please slow them down so we can read the notes.
Best of luck on the PhD, it is a long road but worth it! Perseverance is the key to finishing
Gold readily combines with the element tellurium, forming a whole family of gold-telluride minerals.
I got over 40 years of experience with a metal detector.
Would you like to go out sometime I’m in the Reno area quite a bit.
No pretty rocks where I live. Just a liberal topping off drummer loam. Gold, in its own way. Metals are fascinating. Thanks for your presentation.

I just filed a claim on a gold mine near you. I live in Reno
Nice… thanks for watching!
