She is proud. You know why? Because her ethnicity is american-filipino-jewish-african-irish etc.. and yet she only mentioned two: filipino and jewish. 😚 now you do really know that she is proud to be part Filipino and it has a special place in Hailee's heart like she always say.

Because Philippines is not really represented in Hollywood. Hardly, anyone would come out that they are part Filipino until they get to the top and they will talk about so that they even become more popular. But, in the beginning, they tend to keep in the down low. Hollywood still have this certain types of backgrounds they would like to promote and they make sure that you’re marketable in a way. Another thing, Filipino Americans are mainly known here in America as Nurses... anything medical field. Which is also really reputable and good for our image.
She's part African American as well, her family is very very diverse!

Hailee was nominated for an Oscar at age 14. Just a reminder to some of the people who are trying to say that she's only "pinoy-baiting". She doesn't need Filipino fans to achieve success. She keeps saying she's Filipino because she's genuinely proud of it.

It's the Philippines and the Filipino community in America who are benefitting from the fact that Hailee keeps claiming her Filipino heritage. What Hailee is doing is important especially because of the Asian hate crimes that are targeting the Filipino-American community these days.

That's awesome! My Mom is German/Welsh/Euro Spanish American from Kansas and my Dad is 100% Filipino from the island of Cebu. Both of them are Southern Baptist. I think my Dad grew up Catholic & my Mom was a different denomination growing up. We don't celebrate any Jewish holidays, lol.

@@stormborn_25 I think Wongwongwong understands Philippine history and that Filipino/Filipinas are of Spanish descent. I think that his/her point is that even though people of the Philippines are of Spanish descent, most of them still have Asian features. It's like Malaysian/Indonesian & Chinese/Japanese/Korean skin tone, hair, nose, eyes and other facial features mixed with Mexican & Spaniard outward appearances. But then there are some Filipino/Filipinas and mixed race Meztiso who look strictly Hispanic/Spanish. But the vast majority of Filipino/Filipinas?? Have that distinct Asian Filipino look. Not all of them but most of them.

There are a lot of people these days that would criticize Hailee for not being Filipino enough despite of the fact that Hailee has always been proud of her Filipino heritage. Let me all just remind you that most Fil-Ams(who was raised in America) can't speak Tagalog, Bisaya, Ilocano, Bicolano, etc. Having parents who are both Filipinos doesn't guarantee that a person will be indulged more into the Filipino culture and would have the same Filipino mindset as their parents. The truth of the matter is that most Fil-Ams are just as Americanized as Hailee.
My Grandfather on my father's side is half chinese and a muslim while my Grandmother on my mother's side is half Spanish and a christian, and I am a Filipino. Growing up, we celebrated special events.
