I wish you well. Having my prostate surgery 5 years ago, now I've just been discharged from the care of the hospital and from now on my GP will take care of me. I am like you very lucky to catch the disease early and have it treated in time. At the age of 71 I am doing regular walking exsercice with my beloved wife, who has given me her utmost support through out the difficult time. I am forever grateful to her for the care and love through out our married life of 48 years! I am very sorry to hear about your parents.
Good job Mike, I had my own scare last Christmas / New Year. I did PSA and follow up tests, fortunately I did not have cancer. I am managing an enlarged prostate which has similar symptoms. For me the indicator was frequent urination. However I carried on for 12 - 18 months without even thinking any thing could be wrong - it sounds stupid I know, but there you go! Gents - please keep an eye open for the symptoms. I was 49 at the time. It is not an old mans illness!
Congratulations on your video, and may you continue well for the rest of your life, praiseworthy awareness video, many like me at 55 do not give much importance to this issue because we do not have symptoms, many out of shame, etc. For this reason, I admire your bravery and I hope the channel's colleagues follow your example and spread the word. I wrote this with a translator, I apologize if something is not understood or does not make sense. A hug from Argentina.
I am about to turn 70. At 54 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer purely by chance by a proactive GP. I had a prostatectomy just like Michael and they got it just before it escaped. 16 years on without any side effects and I am still cancer free having PSAs every year. GUYS listen to Michael get to your doctor and get the PSA done. Thank you Micael for bringing this to the public again as it is so often overlooked.
You comment gives me much hope for my future. They say if you can get past 5 years all clear its a good chance your okay, I dont want to wish my life away but I am already counting the years!

I’m sorry for your loss of parents, you’ve had a difficult 2 years. After your vid at 49 I went for a prostate exam. It was cancer and It had spread to half my prostate and so I had it removed. I had no symptoms! I also had a mass removed from my bladder that mercifully was benign. I’m still incontinent but am told I will regain control of my bladder. Thank you for your original post 2 years ago.
Thanks for making this very informative video. Information is key for early discover and treatment of cancer. I'm glad to hear you've been cancer free for 2 years. I'm 61 years old now and since my late 40's I've been taking both the PSA blood test and the "finger" test every 6 months and so far so good. My doctor says my prostate is great. But I will not let the guard down. I'll keep doing these test every 6 month. Enjoy your heathy life and keep making these excellent watch videos.
Mike, you are amazing. I'm at 56 year old man, it's so important that we look after ourselves and each other. Keep being you! I'm just summoning up the courage to take the back off one of my watches and you've convinced me that I can make my watch better. Let's all take the back off our backsides and accept that sometimes we need an equally intrusive process to stop out balance spring spinning!

What a great message! Thank you! I was diagnosed at age 46 with stage 1. Been on "active surveillance" 3 1/2 years, but know one day I'll have to deal with it. Your video helps.
Well I am pleased you now have the knowledge to be tested. For many the PSA comes back normal which is good but what it important to note is it stays on your record. You have to keep on having PSA every few years or so to keep on top of things, this way equally because you have a "base rate" then any rise would be picked up sooner and acted upon .
Based on your video last year I got a PSA test done (I'm 55) and fortunately it was ok (0.8ug/L). I just booked my second test because, as you say, they don't chase you to come back annually for the test. Just like to say a big thank you for making me aware of what I should be doing. Glad you're still free of it, and all the best for the future. I'll get back to rebuilding a Longines cal 431 :)
Here in Australia we have a free national bowl screening from the age 50 and annual PSA blood testing, however you are correct and testing earlier than the age of 50. Men in general need to get over the fear of getting testing and maintaining they health. So glad you have recovered and you are back on your feet again.
Hi Mike , I just reached down for my "Prostate Follow Up Diary " 2009 PSA 28.2 Diagnosis , and my last PSA Test in 2019 was 0.2 , it is Life changing , I do miss the physical exam ! 😵💫🤣! M Good Health to you . 🙏
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I means a lot to so many, and has answered a few questions of my own. Fantastic news that you are in the clear. I have this disease in my family, losing my father only last year after a 9 year battle 9 (at 89), hampered by Covid. He was really fit otherwise. It's terrible watching his decline in his final 6 weeks after it had spread. Best wishes to you, and thank you again for this video.
Keep up the good work. I’m 67. I’ve enjoyed excellent health with no health issues and good fitness. In November last year I had a number of blood tests as part of an annual checkup, after 4 years of no checkups (post covid). PSA detected 9.54. Referred to specialist. More blood tests, MRI, biopsy. Gleason score 3+4. At the end of January I was told that the cancer has spread throughout the prostate but had not spread outside the prostate, and that without treatment I had a life expectancy of about 4 years. I opted for surgery to remove the prostate. I was in surgery a week after the diagnosis. Everything you describe is now very familiar. PSA tests every 3 months (2 tests so far) have shown I have no cancer. I’m now getting physiotherapy which will hopefully improve the incontinence situation. In the last 10 years I’ve had two GPs tell me that PSA tests often give false positive results, and that “most men die with prostate cancer not from prostate cancer”. If anyone gets this advice from their GP DO NOT believe them. Get the PSA test, annually, and follow-up if necessary.
Sorry to read of your diagnosis. Similar numbers to me back in 2022. I have videos on here a few weeks after surgery talking about it all. Continence is a lottery I think. I did non of the pelvic floor exercises as I did 6 weeks of them before hand paranoid I would be continually wetting myself. It did nothing and after the catheter came out it just poured out. I just let myself heal and eventually it started to get better after 4 months or so it was manageable with 2 pads a day and then one week it just stopped, just like that. eventually I had the confidence to not wear a pad and now I only do if I am travelling or in certain situations where I want the assurance. I dribble if I yawn! reach for something, tired so other minor situations. it can feel like a lot but in reality for me its just a few drops. Gp's can be clueless and use out of date data to back up their claims. I have had friends refused a PSA because they are not showing symptoms! It is why I will continue to make as much noise as possible. Men dont have to die of this if they are informed enough times and take action.
What a great and brave, honest video, Mike. Thank you for sharing, buddy. This is coming from another watch enthusiast, no matter what you may find in my channel. Zs
My dad had the operation many years ago. He survived up to the age of 91, but he was incontinent for the rest of his life and he was miserable. I surely hope this will not be my faith. Thanks for making this video. Prevention and catching it early is important, indeed.
Like so many my Prostrate cancer was picked up by being put a Medical trial by my Doctor because my Father had Prostrate cancer . This certainly saved my life , the Surgeon got to it just in time. I had no symptoms other than a PSA of 12. The morale is don’t wait for symptoms. Treatment at the Royal Marsden was fantastic, I had Robotic Surgery.
just had psa test after chris hoy's sad news. good that you are spreading the news about this disease, it's very important. glad you're doing well and good luck. a fellow seiko fan :0)
I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2011 I was only 57, I had an op and 5 months of chemo but 13 years later I’m still here and loving my life. I think it might have been worse for my family than it was for me in a way because they feared the worst whereas I just put myself in the drs hands completely and did what I was told
Hi lovely video mmm I haven’t got prostate cancer but I got diagnosed with a rare blood cancer last September they can’t cure it but can treat it. I just want to say thank you for the update I watch your videos
I've had prostate cancer for 8 years. My PSA is high (~9) but my last biopsy (the 3rd) came back clean (I have a slow-growing tumor type). Not planning on doing anything about it until it gets serious. The mortality is very low (2-3%), and 90 percent of men die with it, but not OF it. If my next biopsy shows something, maybe I'll consider prostatectomy, but I'm in no hurry.
Thanks again for sharing such a personal story. Congrats on being cancer free! Due to my job, I get a full physical and a PSA every year, and I have a regular check ups with Urologist. And yes, my doctor also is a young lady. I’m not sure if I would prefer an old man instead. 🤔. Anyway. Thanks for sharing!
What a great idea this video subject! I am following your channel just for the value of the watches repair lessons and your amazing skill in explaining. Thank you for sharing your cancer story! Very valuable! Thank you for this
Thanks for taking a break from your usual programming to talk about this - especially in such detail. Glad to still have you with us. :) Oh - and F*CK Cancer.
Your watchmaking skills are impressive, but your strength in facing prostate cancer is even more inspiring. Glad you’re sharing the importance of prevention-this time, you're saving more than just watches! Wishing you continued health.
Thank you, Mike , for the most frank & personal account of prostate cancer I have read. When I was 70 my GP arranged a PSA test although I had no symptoms. It was 4.4 & he sent me for a hospital check which was a DRE (finger!) The specialist said it was normal. In 2018 when I was 76, I started peeing up to (15) times a day but passing not a lot at a time. I saw a Urologist & a new PSA was 4.6 and a DRE was ok. The urologist thought it may be a bladder muscle problem causing urine retention & suggested TURP op. which "reams" the prostate to increase the flow. I had the op. which thank God confirmed no cancer, but the cause was a weak bladder muscle.
I cannot believe it's two years ago that we were exchanging comments and I went for my PSA test, which proved to be OK. But thank you for the update and continuing efforts to spread the word. It does appear to be openly talked about more, between my circle of male gents. I still look forward to all your TH-cam releases, so please keep them coming. 👍
Glad to hear that you’re clear. The first time I had the finger up my behind for the prostate check, I told the doctor next time he could buy me dinner beforehand.
Hello Mike, with Greetings and best wishes from northern Germany. I found your channel a few months ago and got very impressed of what your are doing as a non professional watch-maker. But the reason I write this comment is your cancer desease and how you communicate this to us viewers. Respect on that. Me Myself its nearly the same, not with prostate cancer but also nearly two years ago I got the diagnostic of testicular cancer at age 46. Although it is not the same in the Therapy and in personal consequences, I may have a good understanding in your situation because of my diagnosis nearly same time. That gave me another bound on your channel and I am a real fan of your hobby work. Me, I am without any Diagnosis now two years later and for me this gave me a now view in life and changed my way of living in a special. Go on with what you are doing, especially in talking about risks of cancer! And all the best wishes for your further health! And sorry for my "special english".
Thank you. Your English is good. Sorry to read you have had cancer too. We are all brothers bound by this disease. Its the same emotions and worries. Pleased you are all clear and lets hope it stays that way. Cancer changes you and for me its improved my look on life. Do things now, dont wait enjoy things more. Try not to complain (that is hard!) We don't know what is ahead but have a new appreciation for life.
Thank you for such an honest and positive discussion around prostate cancer. Hopefully a real eye opener for people that leads to an early diagnosis and saving lives.
Hi , like your videos , your advise goes for any type of cancer I myself had some prostate symptoms which proved negative, however it made me very vigilant and I decided to have some other symptoms which mimicked other problems , it turned out to be stomach cancer, like you said the shock and questions all pop up , but there is a lot of help out there...I am now going through chemo ect....hopefully like you I will beat it . All the best , hope all is well , keep up with the kids.
Thank you for sharing your story! I am a prostate cancer survivor and the message needs to get out to all. I have referred your first Video to several men so now I have another to share 👍
Thank you. I think this is now my 3rd video all told and I will do one every year as long as I still have an audience. I hope you are doing well and live without many of the side effects I have.
Thanks for this....the first step to prostate health is talking about it! My first awareness of prostate issues was being with a group of guys at a work retreat, and after a "few" drinks we were sharing our lack of urine flow issues and the need for "Flowmax". I also learned that a DRE (digital rectal exam) is not a high tech procedure. (haha). I had a close call after what started out as a urinary tract infection and was referred to a Urologist who checked my PSA numbers (Total and Free) and subsequently ordered a biopsy. Fortunately the result was negative, but he has continued to monitor me yearly over the past ten years or so. Also, good to have an understanding wife, who is supportive of your up's and down's (no pun intended). Best of luck!
Thanks for the comment. DRE is not perfect by any means but they still do it. Funnily enough 6 weeks after surgery I am summoned back to the surgeon who gives me the good news of clear margins etc and ends the conversation by saying he has to do one more rectal exam! I was not prepared for that. Hopefully that’s the last ever time .
Good job. I’m glad you’re doing well. My last PSA was 0.1 but ask me about all my kidney stone surgeries. Always something. Stay well and this is a good thing you’re doing.
So brave of you Michael. This periodical reminder. I'm aware of the risk now thanks to your alerts and campaign. I'm stepping into 47 and definitely wake up with full bladder at an alarming rate. Be safe. From Qatar.
Good to hear you're doing well. Can also highly recommend the recent 'Jon Holmes Says The C-Word' podcast where he is also raising the awareness of prostate cancer
God bless you Mike. I am so inspired by your channel. I’m 49 years old and am fighting colorectal cancer. If I hadn’t advocated for myself I would t have been screened for another year as in Canada regular colonoscopies don’t begin until age 50. It might have been too late then. As it is I was at stage 3c upon diagnosis. If something doesn’t seem right get checked guys!
Sorry to hear that and hope you can get through your treatment and it be a success. To be honest Canada sounds more on the ball than UK. We don’t even get a colonoscopy. Bowel cancer screening I think only happens at 60. I have family history with bowel cancer too…
I can't believe it is two years! I'm glad to hear your latest test was clear and it is very helpful that you talk about the side effects of treatment. Keep up the great work 👍. Duncan

Well done, Mike. I love your approach to this, your honesty and your candor. You’ve made me book an appointment. Keep it up (no pun intended).
Thanks for the video that has reminded me to get my prostate checked again thanks again hope you are doing well keep up the great videos
At 72 your message got through. Adding this for my doctor.
Thank you for talking about this!
You are a top man Mike. All the best and keep well from New Zealand 🇳🇿

Glad to hear that you are doing well, Mike! Thanks for such an important public service announcement. 😃
Mi papá superó el cancer de próstata y hoy tiene 86 años. Siga adelante y que Dios le bendiga.
Good for you mate to speak out
My dad had the operation many years ago. He survived up to the age of 91, but he was incontinent for the rest of his life and he was miserable. I surely hope this will not be my faith. Thanks for making this video. Prevention and catching it early is important, indeed.
I feel your fathers pain. techiques in surgery are getting better plus if you are in the hands of a skilled one who has done it 100s of times.
Thanks for sharing Mike....👍
You are very brave man Mike , wish you good healt .
Desde Madrid ( Spain) Un saludo, me operaron de cáncer hace four years.
@@dord1954 well done. Happy your all clear and for so long
Hi lovely video mmm I haven’t got prostate cancer but I got diagnosed with a rare blood cancer last September they can’t cure it but can treat it. I just want to say thank you for the update I watch your videos
I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Must have been a tough time, pleased the outcome is not a negative one despite you having to live with it.
@@MyRetroWatches thank you 🙏
I've had prostate cancer for 8 years.
Oh - and F*CK Cancer.
Agreed!
Your watchmaking skills are impressive, but your strength in facing prostate cancer is even more inspiring. Glad you’re sharing the importance of prevention-this time, you're saving more than just watches! Wishing you continued health.
thank you for your kind words.
brilliant advice / news mike so important to get checked 🙏
I thank you for taking the time to inform your viewers. It's hugely important! I'll be scheduling a test next week.
Thank you for the advice Mike
Glad you're still in the clear, chap. Good health to us both!
Good PSA Mike! Thanks for
Best wishes to you
Thank you for sharing! Not sure what else to say, other than congratulations on being cancer free at 2 years!!
Thanks so much for the information Mike. I am so glad that you are in good health!
Thanks.
Here's to another year of health! I look forward as always to your next project.
Time moves very quickly.
Glad to hear that you’re clear. The first time I had the finger up my behind for the prostate check, I told the doctor next time he could buy me dinner beforehand.
haha
Well done.
Truly moving delivery of such an important message...and so wonderful to see you happy and healthy! 👍
Thank you for such an honest and positive discussion around prostate cancer. Hopefully a real eye opener for people that leads to an early diagnosis and saving lives.
Thank you. Its the idea, just one person watching this and acting on it makes it worthwhile.
Thank you for this effort. 🏴 🏴 🏴
My grandfather, had a prostate surgery because cáncer, he lived later until 92 years. Be strong.
That is a fantastic outcome and fills me with hope. Its the re-occurrence we all dread.
Thanks! I'm glad that you're still with us. I'm 64 and I see my primary doctor every 3 months. I live in Texas.
Thats fantastic, here in the UK we struggle to even see a doctor.
@@MyRetroWatches I've heard that from other people too. It's pretty sad. I heard a woman in Canada say something similar.
Sorry to hear that
So brave of you Michael.
Duncan
