Wozniak crying instead of getting angry just made me so incredibly sad. The guy genuinely has a heart of gold and he is one of the few people in tech I believe when he claims he does what he does for idealistic reasons (And for his own enjoyment because the man would always express his love for creating computers). Despite jobs shitty practices, Wozniak's venture with Apple did turn out for the better for him. He leads a happy life and felt fulfilled. Something I don't think you could claim for Jobs.

What I found most amazing is that Steve Jobs as brilliant as he was, was able to team up with a genius named Wozniak which allowed him to become who he did today. Steve Jobs had some phenomenal luck teaming up with Wozniak who for many may the real reason Apple was able to be formed. Jobs was in the right place with the right person at the right time.

I think the best thing about these videos is showing how human these great people are/were. How they made mistakes, messed up, we’re at times assholes. It’s really inspired, thank you for this work.

Okay, I wanted to explain the "Ron Paul" "Steve Jobs Dad" mix up, because it's a mistake, and while they happen, I think the why of how this happened is interesting.
So, when you Google "Steve Jobs dad" the fourth result (and best picture) is a picture of Ron Paul (no idea why). They also bear a bit of a passing resemblance.
"Alright Simon, but it's RON PAUL... He's a recognisable dude." I hear you cry... Indeed American reader, indeed. But not so much over the pond... Both myself (obviously) and Jack (our producer) are British, and we both produced and watched it, not realising that we had somehow implied that Ron Paul had fathered Steve Jobs (at 20 years old in case you were wondering).
So yeah, that's my long winded apology. We're not exactly the Discovery channel budget-wise, and while we do have a couple of people looking over these videos, sometimes mistakes do slip through :).

Wozniak seems like a genuine nice guy. The way Jobs used him and treated him was horrible.

    • @Locutus
      @Locutus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

The thing with Jobs, was he was extremely ambitious and it's typical of these people to be ruthless.
      Ferengi Rule of Acquisitions:
21 "Never place friendship before profit."
212 "A good lie is easier to believe than the truth."
272: "Always inspect the merchandise before making a deal."
"The less employees know about the cash flow, the smaller the share they can demand." (unknown number)
Wozniak was just too trusting, and shows how people like him get walked over, sadly. But Wozniak strikes me as a happy-go-lucky fella, that despite being told his dog or cat had died, he would still find something to smile and be happy about. Not a bad thing whatsoever.

@Yousef Ghaneemah Lots of documentarians have backed up those claims, and worse. His early Apple employees worked without pay on his promise they'd get stocks, which he later refused to pay them because of his pure greed. Woz tells the story, saying he was disgusted and ended up giving them some of his own.

I think this only came out last year, so probably why it’s not here, but apparently when his daughter Lisa was living with him later on both he and his wife at the time treated her really badly. As in bordering on psychological abuse. I mean, obviously everything you read on the internet you take with a grain of salt, and she could hardly be unbiased after how he treated her mum. But it did sound pretty fucked up.

Although the biographies are limited, they are a great jumping off point for peaking your interest, especially for someone you know little or nothing about (my favorite are people I've never heard of or know little). Whatever his role, Simon does an excellent job of presentation and I look forward to seeing whose next in line for one life at a time. Of course he also betrayed Apple when they loaned him two Macintosh machines when MS was making "office" for the Mac, and reverse engineered the GUI to come up with that awful, shoddy, third-rate Operating System, Windows (wretch), and proceeded to try to DESTROY the Mac. 1. Apple III and Lisa were around the wrong way. Both in the same market, but the Apple III was a much simpler machine released in 1980. The Apple III was the first design at Apple that the marketing department really stepped in. The development time frame for it lead to trying to fit too much into too small of a place as quickly as possible. This lead to 100% hardware failure in the early Apple III's. (In actuality, the shell needed to be build early due to the shells being aluminium cast as a Steve Jobs wanted to not have any fans in the design...). It didn't help that by the time the Apple III was in a good state, the IBM PC, a 16 bit, more capable machine had been released and industries had standardized on it.
The Apple Lisa was first released in 1983, and it was originally to be a replacement for the Apple II, but soon grew rapidly due to feature creep to a 10k USD computer. Part of this was due to the insistance on the revolutionary GUI computer. Steve jobs would ultimately be forced out of that machine's development in 1982, to go and work on a new computer, the Apple Macintosh.
    2. Steve Jobs wasn't ever CEO in the company during the early years. The original CEO, Michael Scott, was CEO from 1977 until 1981 when his poor choices in firing half the team working on the most profitable produce (the Apple II) lead to Mike Markkula becoming CEO till 1983, when Mike retired and John Sculley became CEO. Mike being the early angel investor in Apple. Steve was progressively given less and less power within the company, and according to the stories, for good reason. Steve wanted to funnel the money into the Mac, which was struggling (85% of the companies earnings in early 1985 were the Apple II). Also, every aspect that Steve had worked on or promoted had caused major issues and cost overruns.
According to many people's stories, Sculley was ultimately tasked by the board of the company to keep Steve Jobs contained and they wanted to stick him in "new product development" and out of the Macintosh division, essentially removing any power from Jobs. Jobs tried to perform a coup and remove Sculley. It didn't work, and Jobs ultimately left the company.
    3. Apple's management from when Steve Jobs left caused issues. They pretty much never developed the classic Mac OS that much and while trying to replace it, failed a lot. Tailgent, Copland, Gerswand, ect had left Apple without a stable os to build off, and had waited too long and milked Classic Mac too much, while Microsoft had developed Windows into a stable and useful OS with better features, and had a second series, the NT series, in the works that would go on to power the basis for the OS I am using now (Windows 10). So it's no surprise that Apple was taking to Sun Microsystems and NextStep about merging, specifically because they needed the next OS. Ultimately, Steve Jobs would gain control of the company through this merger, but Rhapsody, the porting of OpenStep to Mac Architecture was one of the main reasons behind the acquisition of NextStep. Oh, wait, Rhapsody was ultimately developed out into OSX.
Steve Jobs actually only came in as a adviser, but ultimately was named interim CEO when the then CEO was fired.

    3 year old Error corrections
    1) NeXt was not a consumer product, they had 1 consumer model, released in limited quantities, but the company catered to the education and business markets
    2) NeXt only shifted to software because the OS was in high demand by competing companies so instead of hardware they figured theyd just license & Sell user copies of the operating system to whoever wanted it.
    3) Apple did not bring Steve Jobs back for his vision, Apple bought NeXt, because the OS interface at that point for the Mac was outdated and not user friendly, NeXt's OS was, so Apple bought it for the OS and got Steve Jobs with it, but he didn't become CEO right away, the company was on the verge of bankruptcy, and the CEO was ousted and jobs was initially the interim and then he became the permanent CEO.
bonus Fact: the current version of Mac OS is actually built on the same NeXt OS, that jobs had sold to Apple it has not changed, things have merely been added and expanded upon since the 90s when jobs sold/merged with/ to Apple.
Bonus Fact 2: the only reason apple is still around is because of Microsoft, when jobs was named interim CEO he reached out to Bill Gates, and in exchange for stock Bill Gates bailed Apple out of debt, just enough that the Apple Steve took over started from scratch and everything apples done since was all Steve Jobs but without Bill Gates Steve Jobs would not have been able to do enough in time to bail Apple out they were legitimately right about to file for bankruptcy when jobs took over.

I love these but I think they would benefit from cutting out more uses of "well" and "they." So for example "steve and wozniak, they went public" could be "steve and wosniak went public" and it would sound a lot better. I haven't really noticed these filler words in the 10 minute videos but they stick out in the 20 minute version.

A Wikileaks document said he was diagnosed in 2004 with HIV-1 on a PCR, STD test. Was negative on all other STD's. Take a look at him at the end. Makes sense. He had an easily treatable neuroendocrine pancreatic tumor, less lethal than other forms of pancreatic cancer. Look into it. I think it's true....
