I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and I installed the bags inside the coil. They made a big difference in how the truck rides when pulling our 31' travel trailer. Definitely worth the time and money.
I don't even own a 2500 and I still loved this video! I subscribed a while back, mainly because I came across your great Subaru videos, but I always appreciate any video you put up. The one-liners, awesome references, your sense of humor, and great tips are always thoroughly enjoyed! Great work on this "No drill" kit!
I would tie both of those air lines together with a T fitting so that I can use just one valve. If the line should develop a leak, It would be better if they both deflate at the same time instead of having one full while the other one sags. I would put another T fitting in it and connect a small 12 volt compressor w a check valve somewhere in the cab and have the power wires for the compressor running to a switch on the dashboard. The beauty of this is that you can also have a valve in the cab to deflate them from inside. You can also put a PSI gauge in the cab to see what pressure you have.
The only downside to plumbing them both together is it would make the truck very unstable. if all the weight goes to one side, it would deflate that side and inflate the other. almost like tipping a tray of water to one side.
I love people that say this^^^ Clearly they have never tried forcing much air through a 1/4 NPT orifice, its next to impossible to move a very large volume of air quickly through 2 air fittings a tee and 6 feet of tubing. hahaha The Air-Lift brand has Tee install notes lol
I've got a Firestone on my 96 Silverado 454 Extended cab 2 door Dually (2 WD). Mine has the compressor for adding air mounted under the hood and hooked up to the controller with the pressure gauge mounted under the dash (next to the brake controller). This way I can adjust by adding or releasing the air while driving. Never did the install for it but had to get it back to useable running condition when I got it. Great video, well done
GREAT write up as you were a guinea pig for an early kit! Just ordered for my 2015 2500. I have a Superlift 4" coil lift that only raised the rear 1.5" so when I tow or haul I get a LOT of droop. I plan on using a 1.5-2" spacer between the bag and included bracket to compensate for the lift. Also installing remote inflation kit.
Great video. Felt like I was a buddy just hanging out with you on a Friday night helping you install the airbags. Very informative and well produced. Keep up the good work Brian!
I just installed a set today on my 2016 power wagon. You can install the bottom bolt from front to back without cross threading, but holy hell is it tough to line up. It literally took my about an hour just to get one of those bastards in. Time wise, probably a lot shorter just to do what you did. I considered drilling, but I would have had to remove the shock to get that done. I am by no means a mechanic, but after I watched your video it looked fairly simple, which it was, except for the stupid bottom bolts. I found the kit was pretty bad for fitting, but its doable. Thanks for the video!
Tyler Stewart.....When I first started looking at airbags for my trucks, it seemed obvious that putting in a "T' would make air bags so much easier and better. One fill valve. Perfect balance of the vehicle. But one fill isn't all that great. There is no "evil tee" argument. Using the "T" isn't going to ruin the system. It's just that bags work a lot better when they are independent. How much extra work is it to inflate each side separately? Put the Schrader valves right next to each other. It takes very little air to inflate the bags so its really just seconds per side to do the job. It just functions better. Firestone has been manufacturing these systems for decades, and they suggest using seperate bags is preferred. They make on-board inflation systems that are single and dual, so they obviously think its OK to use a single fill, but they do say the system will give maximum functional benefit if separate. Makes sense to me and the benefits far outweigh the very minor drawbacks.
i have an 05 hyundai accent and i tow dodges all the time. I was thinking of putting some of these on. Not for towing the dodges those are really light, but for the occasional chevy that i have to tow. Those chevys are really heavy duty
Even with the drilling, this doesnt seem like a bad install. It seems like every time I get interested in a project you do a video on it. Great video, two thumbs up!!!

@@tylerstewart6011 Even Firestone says it does make the truck unstable and not to use a "T". It's not going to tip your truck over, but it will not perform like individual valves do.

Brian, My name is Tyler and I work for Firestones Tech support line. I would like to help point out just a few items about the video. The installation of the lower bolt should have been installed from front to rear. In "Figure A" of the install guide is shows the bolt installing from front to rear, the reason for that is the rear side of that jounce block is threaded. As you can see the entire bolt that we supplied is not threaded, the neck of the bolt had to of been forced through the treaded side of the jounce block which is why you most likely had an issue. The bolt is designed to go in from the front so that the threads in the rear of the block can guide it through and allow you to run the nut down to hold the brake line on. All of this is discussed in step 4 of the install guide.. If anyone needs photos to better understand the correct installation of the lower bolt please feel free to contact us @ rrtech@fsip.com The second item I would like to cover is the coating on the brackets, I have been pushing for a better coating for some time now and understand that when a customer opens a brand new item they don’t want to see chipped paint. I don't think the finish is garbage it was a packaging issue if you have metal parts banging into each other in a box with no bubble wrap at minimum your paint/prouder coat will get beaten up.
Google brought your excellent video to my electronic fire window. I'll most likely choose a Ram/Cummins 2500 with coil spring rears as my next truck. Seeing your install and review help me choose between factory coils and auto air leveling. One question: Have you lifted your truck on the rack by the frame or only the axle? The Firestone installation manual says not to lift by the frame but if you do, fully deflate the bags. The only concern is if I leave the truck at a shop and the tech decides to lift the truck by the frame possibly damaging the bags. Cheers.
Hey nice job nice video. But now with the extra capacity to ride heavy but level, you need to replace those wimpy looking stock shocks with some nice Bilstiens or some other heavy duty aftermarket brand for more control.
Brian, If i remember correctly etrailer.com put out an installation video for this kit or one similar on an F-250 within the last week or two. Might be helpful to anyone else out there planning or considering airbags. Also, check out elderlyiron's recent video on a 1941 PowerWagon. (Project Commando) Interesting overload spring design on that relic. It was a mini coil spring. Never seen one like it before.
Nice! I'll check those out. etrailer doesn't do firestone- they do airlift with the internal bumpers (nice!), but they don't make one for the coil truck- just leaf. I heart PowerWagons! I want to build one!
Great video, do they make these for 1500's, i got a 2014, just bought a 30' travel trailer and its sagging a bit, also have a 1.5" inch lift on the back, will it work with that or would i have to remove them to stock!? Thanks in advance..
"tough to get the airline in"... It seems to me that you reversed the top plates as that flair out on the bracket seems to be where the air hose was designed to run through so it wouldn't be hindered by the bolts and as it doesn't seem to serve any other purpose. If this is the case it might cause an airbag misalignment which may be why the bag looked cockeyed when it was deflated. No disrespect to your experience or skills intended.
Hey there Brian, How has the air bags held up? Been a few years since you've made the video and I am looking to add them to my 2014 2500 Ram. Still work well?

Hey Brian, I've enjoyed your video's for quite some time now, and just subscribed to your channel. Your information is very valuable to me and many others i'm sure. I think you should do a video on a 2003 Dodge 3500 Cummins Clutch replacement, I just happen to know a guy who has such a vehicle. (hint hint wink wink) Its really tough to find a good honest thourogh Machanic, I know this because i used to be one, and have worked for a few shops that were less than honest. I do most of my own wrenching, but can't do the heavy stuff anymore, as my body is much older than my mind :) I think your in Utah, and i'm not that far from you, well worth the drive for me to have piece of mind about the guy working on my truck. BTW, I also have a Subaru that the wifey drives (01 Forester) so your subaru vids are worth thier weight in gold. Thanks for all you do, your needed, and highly appreciated.
so you cant use a goose neck on the 2500's now eathor? i know on the 1500's you cant but really? a 2500 is for towing and working..... but thats with the air tank system if your just having valves your going to fill with an air chuck thats not to bad i guess

Hey there Brian,
How has the air bags held up? Been a few years since you've made the video and I am looking to add them to my 2014 2500 Ram. Still work well?
Great vids! Love the Ram 2500 "how too's" ..Question for you. Can I install the air bags with out having the leaving kit?? Cheers!!
Firestone didn't use primer... Just a thought...
if this fix also to small car? thanks for video..
My comment was deleted, plasma cutter was not needed. You tried installing the lower bolt incorrectly.
make bow hunting videos sounds fun ! Have you ever hunted wild boars ?
does this make your rear coil springs loose and rattling around? In the vid it looked like the spring was totally unloaded.
Nope. The coils are just exotic. You should see the gaps and voids on the Caravan springs. Must be a Chrysler thing.
briansmobile1
Oh alright. It look like the springs stopped uncompressing at some point but the bags were still jacking up.
Great video, very detailed as usual!
love the lisence plate protector. Wish to go there someday. and I did chuckle at the Happy Gilmore Reference. ARE YOU TOO GOOD FOR YOUR HOME, ANSWER ME.
The price should of included some decent packaging from the supplier.
Great video! That little flash light seems really bright for its size could you tell me what brand it is or where you purchased it always looking for a good light thanks have a great day.

Another fantastic video.
Thanks Justin!
Great vid, Brian! Thnx Brother
Nice prime job. Draw an X WITH A RAZOR. Scotch tape and peel. Pulls off zero primer
Scientist have found that people believe anything if you preface it with scientist have found/discovered. They've also found that if you don't use primer.... exactly ZERO primer will come off!
I do most of my own wrenching, but can't do the heavy stuff anymore, as my body is much older than my mind :)
I think your in Utah, and i'm not that far from you, well worth the drive for me to have piece of mind about the guy working on my truck. BTW, I also have a Subaru that the wifey drives (01 Forester) so your subaru vids are worth thier weight in gold.
Thanks for all you do, your needed, and highly appreciated.
do you still have your 01
Geez, I wish I did!
so you cant use a goose neck on the 2500's now eathor? i know on the 1500's you cant but really? a 2500 is for towing and working..... but thats with the air tank system if your just having valves your going to fill with an air chuck thats not to bad i guess
Goosenecks are factory reinforced and easier than ever! I'll have to show that in the next video I do on the truck- should be an Edge install video.
I hate those allen bolts, I bet they will strip in no time at all!
Nice
IR5 Green welding lens safety glasses not clear safety glasses; take care of your eyes dood; you started to blink a lot, at tha end. Good job by tha way.

Yeah you do need primer... :) ...
No wonder it's the paint is coming off you keep slamming them down omg
The UPS guy got to them first. The packaging was poop.... if poop was supernaturally intangible and transparent.... lol Most lift kits have something like hammerite on them or some chip resistant coating. These have something that resembles very thin tree bark.
Firestone, I don't even trust them to do a simple oil change.
They really don't have the reputation they used to. Poor fellas.
technically you didn't drill anything lol
That kit looks like junk if you ask me.
