I will never forget visiting London about 12 years ago in 2012 after not having been there since the late 90's and being completely astonished as I came up out of the Tube and onto the street. I'm a 72 year old American living in Oregon Country. I retired at 65 and had never been a big TV Watcher anyway. 20/20 in the covid pandemic got me watching TH-cam for information and looking for anything I could find. I started watching UK and Canadian and Australian news networks. I had always been impressed with the European Press News I heard when I was living in Europe and visiting Europe. It always seemed to have more worldwide information than any American News. It's only been in the last 15 months that I started watching American TH-camrs for news instead of going to the UK in Commonwealth areas for news. I like the fact that I can listen to one side of the argument and then find the other side and see for myself what I think. This has been especially helpful in the political rhetoric that's going on for the elections.

As a child refugee who later became a UK citizen and studied contemporary, 20th/21st Century migration, the solutions are simpler than Western Politicians care to admit. Instead of focusing only on 'how do we stop them', logic would require finding out 'why they are coming'. In the majority of cases, e.g. Africa, Western governments and corporations must take responsibility for selecting, empowering and supporting leaderships that suit Western interests as opposed to that of Africans. People in the West need to know that the majority of peoples in developing nations do not want to leave their 'homeland, family, culture etc, etc', but they too want to grow economically. They too want the same things people in the developed nations hold e.g. peace, security and a voice without fear of persecution; however, when you have an endless succession of corrupt, western supported governments keeping you poor and hungry, it is human nature to want to find a place one can live and prosper in peace and security- the same reasons the Pilgrims left for the New World, which we know as America. The catch-22 part is that in most cases, those who are citizens of developing countries rarely have working visas approved by Western States, consequently, they are forced to choose dangerous, illegal paths-often one way, and risking their lives. These people have carry the hopes of their families, who in many cases have clubbed together the funds to pay illegal agents to take their family member to the West. Imagine how desperate they must be to risk their lives in deserts, jungles and oceans-no social security for them!. Given the dramatic drop in the birth rates of Western Europe which will affect the size of the working population in the near future, a pragmatic approach would be the adoption of a working visa which allows people to come, to work, to leave and to return as economic migrants ultimately plan to return home. In my view, if the US State Dept., EU and UK Foreign Office, put as much effort into supporting truly democratic governments and creating incentives for corporations to pay locals fairly, and to help create wealth in developing countries, the long term effect would be the significant stemming of overall migration to the West. Instead of using Aid and loans from taxpayers to bail out despotic regimes, wouldn't rewarding governments that are transparent, democratic and equitable pay greater dividends to the West, as well as, towards Regional Peace?. I am a great critic of the 'looney left' of the 1990s/2000s in Britain, whom I hold almost solely responsible for the rise of Islam and dominance of Islam in state schools e.g. Bradford, in Britain. When my family and I came to the UK in the early 1970s, Britain was a Christian country, with its own cherished culture and value. I fail to understand why British culture is being eroded by the British themselves in the name of 'inclusivity'. Surely, it is incumbent on the immigrant to fit in with the culture and norms of the 'host country' they have chosen to go to?. We became citizens in mid 1980s, 10 years after being given political refuge in Britain after accepting the political situation back home was unlikely to change and we couldn't travel anywhere as we had Travel Documents, and were under the protection of the British Crown-in effect, we were 'stateless'. Bending over backwards to be inclusive inevitably results in a backlash from the host population towards the immigrant. Hundreds from all over the world go to live in Dubai, and regardless how developed it has become, it continues to hold true to its religious and cultural identity. So if Dubai can welcome the World without losing its identity, why can't Britain ???.

I will never forget visiting London about 12 years ago in 2012 after not having been there since the late 90's and being completely astonished as I came up out of the Tube and onto the street. We had guns when we were younger with less regulations but we didn't see what we see now. Safety is always important but the REAL issue is the pressure from society on our kids via social
media and our diet. I think with all the poison in our food our kids are having hormonal and chemical imbalances. Look at the size of kids now compared to the past. We're not just getting chronic diseases of body but also psychiatric problems.

I'm a 72 year old American living in Oregon Country. I retired at 65 and had never been a big TV Watcher anyway. 20/20 in the covid pandemic got me watching TH-cam for information and looking for anything I could find. I started watching UK and Canadian and Australian news networks. I had always been impressed with the European Press News I heard when I was living in Europe and visiting Europe. It always seemed to have more worldwide information than any American News. It's only been in the last 15 months that I started watching American TH-camrs for news instead of going to the UK in Commonwealth areas for news. I like the fact that I can listen to one side of the argument and then find the other side and see for myself what I think. This has been especially helpful in the political rhetoric that's going on for the elections.

A question about Butler that I have not heard anyone discuss is the following. The shooter showed up with a red dot sight. This is good for at max, about 200 yards. Anyone looking to do what he did would have an optical sight to deal with an unknow range. Only someone who knew ahead of time that he would be able to get close, well isnide a typical security perimeter, would being such a short range configuration. This tells me that he KNEW he would be closer than anyone would assume you could get. That suggest he had some insight into the vulnerabilities of the day, well in advance. Square that circle....

Having worked in a university for a long time in the u.s. I can tell you these schools coddle the students to their own demise. It’s crazy. My Dad used to say “the sooner you learn life is not fair, the better off you’ll be”. So grateful for those words because they are in fact true. I find that young people who have not gone to university are so much more grounded in reality.

As a child refugee who later became a UK citizen and studied contemporary, 20th/21st Century migration, the solutions are simpler than Western Politicians care to admit. Instead of focusing only on 'how do we stop them', logic would require finding out 'why they are coming'. In the majority of cases, e.g. Africa, Western governments and corporations must take responsibility for selecting, empowering and supporting leaderships that suit Western interests as opposed to that of Africans. People in the West need to know that the majority of peoples in developing nations do not want to leave their 'homeland, family, culture etc, etc', but they too want to grow economically. They too want the same things people in the developed nations hold e.g. peace, security and a voice without fear of persecution; however, when you have an endless succession of corrupt, western supported governments keeping you poor and hungry, it is human nature to want to find a place one can live and prosper in peace and security- the same reasons the Pilgrims left for the New World, which we know as America.
The catch-22 part is that in most cases, those who are citizens of developing countries rarely have working visas approved by Western States, consequently, they are forced to choose dangerous, illegal paths-often one way, and risking their lives. These people have carry the hopes of their families, who in many cases have clubbed together the funds to pay illegal agents to take their family member to the West. Imagine how desperate they must be to risk their lives in deserts, jungles and oceans-no social security for them!.
Given the dramatic drop in the birth rates of Western Europe which will affect the size of the working population in the near future, a pragmatic approach would be the adoption of a working visa which allows people to come, to work, to leave and to return as economic migrants ultimately plan to return home.
In my view, if the US State Dept., EU and UK Foreign Office, put as much effort into supporting truly democratic governments and creating incentives for corporations to pay locals fairly, and to help create wealth in developing countries, the long term effect would be the significant stemming of overall migration to the West. Instead of using Aid and loans from taxpayers to bail out despotic regimes, wouldn't rewarding governments that are transparent, democratic and equitable pay greater dividends to the West, as well as, towards Regional Peace?.
I am a great critic of the 'looney left' of the 1990s/2000s in Britain, whom I hold almost solely responsible for the rise of Islam and dominance of Islam in state schools e.g. Bradford, in Britain. When my family and I came to the UK in the early 1970s, Britain was a Christian country, with its own cherished culture and value. I fail to understand why British culture is being eroded by the British themselves in the name of 'inclusivity'. Surely, it is incumbent on the immigrant to fit in with the culture and norms of the 'host country' they have chosen to go to?.
We became citizens in mid 1980s, 10 years after being given political refuge in Britain after accepting the political situation back home was unlikely to change and we couldn't travel anywhere as we had Travel Documents, and were under the protection of the British Crown-in effect, we were 'stateless'. I was 17 when I said the oath to the Queen, and became a British Citizen, and remain grateful 50 years later for the kindness the British Government of the Day and the British People showed us in our time of need. When I hear of immigrants who having lived for over 40 years in the UK do not speak English, I am staggered!; my parents made every effort for us to integrate into British society even when we didn't know how long we would stay and their efforts paid off as we were able to thrive in our new homeland.
Bending over backwards to be inclusive inevitably results in a backlash from the host population towards the immigrant. Hundreds from all over the world go to live in Dubai, and regardless how developed it has become, it continues to hold true to its religious and cultural identity. So if Dubai can welcome the World without losing its identity, why can't Britain ???.
