When these commercials aired I had 8 grandparents and many other relatives and friends. Now I have 1 grandmother left and no where near as many friends and relatives left. Thanks for helping me to remember the better times. If only for a little while.
Wish I would have appreciated the 80’s while living in them. I WISH I could go back. The world today is completely different place, and it’s an absolutely horrible place to be.
Tell that to the young people who see these commercials and feel they missed out on something really good. I have seen so many comments like that in these threads.@@StandWatie1862
I’m in my late 40’s and I remember all of these. I really miss these days, these were great times and watching this video really fills with warmer loving times. Makes me miss my grandparents. Thank you for this. ❤
In my 50’s now.. and remember these adverts.. Great times with friends and my beloved nan who I miss especially around Christmas.. I’ve tried to tell my kids how good it was back then.. they are not impressed!!
What happened here, what I mean is years ago back in the 1980s and up to probably 1995 they had shown at least over 2000 Christmas commercials and that and now they barely play any Christmas stuff today. I totally Miss 1980s when they used to play all the great Christmas stuff back then, why networks why. Give us back our Christmas stuff like it used to be throughout the 1980s
One of the nicest things about these schools commercials is that the children actually look like children and not overly sexualized like they do today. What happens to these good old days? I was far too young to remember most of this, but they sure had a feel good feeling.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I remember all of these, except the local commercials. These videos take me back to the best times of my life, all my family was still alive and well. So, for a little while I can smile and remember the good times. Doesn't seem to be any good times nowadays. But I lived the 70's and 80's, so I'm very thankful for that.
Oh my gosh, I was just thinking back around Christmas time about that old 7-UP commercial with Santa and the elves. Is it just me or did commercials seem to be more interesting then than they are now? Let's see, December of 1985. I had just turned 8 years old.
I had just turned 9 in 1985, these were better times for commercials and all. The commercials seemed to be more heartwarming then. Have a great rest of your week.
♥ Love these old commercials, it reminded me of the Christmas Toy and the recipes from the TV guide. Christmas in Washinton, do they still do that? Awe, Highway to Heaven... such a good show
I sure do miss these retro commercials. Has anyone but me noticed lately that a great majority of TV commercials these days feature a dog - regardless of whether or not the product being advertised has anything to do with dogs? From cleaning products to insurance and everything in between. It's become a cliche. What's even worse are commercials for prescription drugs showing people walking around in garish work-out clothing having conversations while one of them is walking a dog. Particularly offensive are the ones that show an overweight bald guy strolling around carrying a clipboard and high fiving everyone he meets for no discernible reason.
I want to go back and do it all over ....The 70’s and 80’s were my decades and they were the best years of my life. America was absolutely a different place back then. It was still a treat then to get 25 cents from mom and walk uptown to the gas station to get a Coca-Cola or Pepsi or to the ice cream shop and get a CMP ice cream. We truly did not lock our doors and stayed out till after dark with our bikes and on Halloween we all went trick-or-treating without our parents when we got older at night in the cold and it was great fun.. In the summer we played outside all day and all night, The only way my mom got us home to eat was a big brass bell she had outside the sliding glass doors that she would ring to get our attention to come home for dinner. I remember wonderful 4th of July celebrations going on picnics and then mom took us to the ball park and we laid on blankets to watch the fireworks. And of course Christmas and even though it was tuff for my mom raising us she always made sure we had a great holiday . Even Easter was special in America back then... as we got older we started to go see the movies and we really did have the best movies. Jaws, Close Encounters, , Raiders of the lost Ark, James bond, Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens, Predator, planet of the apes, E.T, The terminator, The goonies, Friday the 13th, Batman, Back to the future . ...To name a few.....The TV show line up on the networks were fabulous ( this was before you got 500 channels like you do today and still nothing on is good) we had Dallas, knots Landing, Falcon crest, little house, The Waltons (No not the store that destroyed America). And every night of the week a network would compete and have for example, Monday night at the movies! Tuesday night at the movies ! and they would show a major movie release. We had real holidays were we all got together and enjoyed each other’s company. We ate dinner every night together and talked not shouted at each other. We had great stores that are all but gone now in 2023 and great movie theaters and of course the MALLS! It was not the 80’s without a Mall. My very first few jobs were at the mall. First Macdonald’s and then The Gap!. Yes sir those days were GREAT! and we were very lucky to have lived them .... today I don’t even see kids outside and everyone is in fear for safety from crazy people.... I don’t recognize America now..God Bless us all ! (If you can even say that anymore). 0:51
Born in 73. I remember these. I sure miss the 80s! I loved and miss my childhood. It was so much simpler and real back then. I'm so glad we didn't have cellphones, and internet!! Social media has ruined our children's minds and life!!
To say I remember a lot of these is to say I'm getting old. Born in '76. I even had Popples and Cabbage Patch Kids. Among others. Today, "family friendly" means nothing. A lot of movies, tv and commercials today are smutty and woke.
If you can find someone to do a digital restoration, i'd love to see this in HD! great collection of classic ads, they sure do warm up the hearts around the holiday season! Happy Holidays and have a very Merry Christmas!
This is December 1986, actually. The Venture toy commercial featured Transformers, including Ultra Magnus and Cyclonus, who both debuted as toys in 1986, for the Transformers movie released in August 1986. Two of the commercials are for shows that did not air until Fall 1986. Alf and Designing Women.
Back when I was a little boy, my little brother wasn’t here yet. My Big Sister, my Dad, my Grandpa, my Grandma, and my Grandpa Doc were all alive and would be for a long time to come.
Lol "An American Tale" was a huge movie when it came out. Me and my sister got the McDonald's toys and glasses from the movie. And that Campbell's nacho cheese was God awfull lol!!!!
Wish I would have appreciated the 80’s while living in them. I WISH I could go back. The world today is completely different place, and it’s an absolutely horrible place to be.
I have a long shot, but it never hurts to ask: I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Japanese-American. I'm looking for a Christmas jingle, which I don't know the name for, but have heard it on two different commercials. In late 1989, Taco Time had a very nice commercial, mostly instrumental, with a nice song. Then, in late 1998, International Jewelers had that same jingle, and the narrator said, "Jingle Bell...Rock!" (no, the song isn't Jingle Bell Rock) You would have to have been living in Seattle in 1989, to have any idea what I'm talking about, but someone here MIGHT know.
I'm just like her. I use butter and lard as well as whole buttermilk in my biscuits. Learned that from my Granny. Now that margarine stuff isn't fit for cockroaches 😂😂😂👍
Do you have access to any Christmas commercials from the Norfolk/Hampton, Virginia area, 1979-1984? I was in a Christmas commercial for Coliseum Mall when I was in 2nd grade, and it ran for a few years. Sure would love to show my kids
I remember 80’s well as teenager working at Sears at Xmas and later young adult starting my career after college, getting married.. Had Lots of family gathering parents, siblings there wives, husbands and little grand kids at my parents home.. Now US and world gone shit and everywhere you look and hear people talking about the rapture church & god returning.. Parents are gone now, none my siblings get together as family anymore. I guess glue held my family together is no more. Suppose we’re really near the end times. So sad😢
This is not 1985. Alf's first airing wasn't until September 22, 1986. Additionally, TV Guide went from Saturday to Friday, Dec 6-12 in 1985 was Friday through Thursday, it would be correct for 1986. the tv starts showing christmas commercials before thanksgiving after thanksgiving before christmas and on christmas you internet trolls think you know everything 🙄

while this was before my time as i was literally months old by this point, but still love watching these
I was 30 years old and in hospital at this time. I recall the television shows and commercials from this year (1985) so well.
SImon & Simon, Designing Women and Knotts Landing my favorite shows.
They can only play them once a year just saving 💰But still sucks they don't have these gems anymore
♥ Love these old commercials, it reminded me of the Christmas Toy and the recipes from the TV guide.
Christmas in Washinton, do they still do that?
Awe, Highway to Heaven... such a good show
deja vu... that 7up commercial brought me back
something i did not know was that the santa claus we all recognize was created as a spokesmodel for coca cola back in the 1930s or even earlier!!
