  • The Dilliards with Maggie Peterson, known as The Darlin Boys with sister Charlene sing" Salty Dog Blues" These three are well known for being on the Andy Griffith show over 40 years ago and they are as fun to watch now as they were then. The Dillards were just inducted into the Bluegrass Hall of fame.
If you love bluegrass music and great performers like these, you can see them perform at The James Garner Center in Troy, N.C. Check out www.bluesgrassintroy.com and see what great bluegrass group you can see next by promoter Jeff Branch and First Bank of N.C.

The absolute best was when earnest t bass grabbed what he thought was Charlene in her wedding dress and it turned out to be Barney in drag.

Just like I Love Lucy, I’ve seen each Andy Griffith episode hundreds of times and they still make me laugh…especially the episode you mentioned. Unfortunately, they don’t make shows like this anymore, but thankfully we have them on reruns or DVD!

The Andy Griffith show has timeless values and talent all rolled up into a show that has never left syndication and for very good reason. Griffith and Knotts were pure magic together in that show. I could spend all of my TV viewing hours on just classic TV.

I'm 70 years old and I get good deals on box sets of entire seasons of classic TV shows at W**-M***. Gunsmoke, Have Gun, Will Travel, The Munsters, Addams Family, The Twilight Zone, etc. I love that I can watch all these old favorites commercial-free. They bring back happy memories of the whole family in the TV room enjoying this G-rated stuff. I even have an episode of Petticoat Junction featuring Dennis Hopper. Oh yeah.

@@MegaSmitty51 I watch all sorts of such old reruns on cable and it is fun to see "big names" when they were first starting. Like Charles Bronson in five "Have Gun Will Travel" episodes as a different character in each. ("Have Gun Will Travel" re-used the same actors quite a bit.) And I just saw Ed Harris in an old "Rockford" episode playing a bad cop. And Leonard Nimoy in the film series "Zombies of the Stratosphere".

Until one day my dad picked up his 1955 Gibson Sunburst and started playing along with them. From that point until today the episodes with the Darlings, and also Bobby Fleet and his band with the beat, are some of my favorite episodes.

That was actually 1 of 3 episodes of AG that would be good Halloween episodes for that show, burying the stuff by the oak tree at night and doing the "incant" with Andy on her right side to get divorced, Barney getting the book on mountain folklore to help Andy get out of the wedding, Barney being the rider in black on the white horse riding east to west to curse the union. Just the whole "magic" tone of the episode. That episode, 3 Wishes for Opie, and of course "The Haunted House" episode are my personal
      "Andy Griffith Halloween" episodes!

They were the best blue grass group on tv and it was the sings they picked and I’ve always decided what songs they would play.

I don't know why I never thought about looking this group up as I'm such a fan. Born in 1970, I was an avid watcher of AG in what would have been, I assume, the first round of reruns on station KPHO TV 5 out of Phoenix in rural central Arizona (Verde Valley). This show was then,my favorite show hands down. AG maintains this place even after nearly 44 years on planet earth and lots of TV viewing. It is also my wife's favorite completely independent of my choice made sometime before we met in high school. I give you this info not to brag or make a narcissistic connection to celebrity. Rather, this information illustrates how, incredible music, small town life, faith in God, clean living, humility, humor and kindness can touch people so profoundly as to seemingly break or render nonexistent sociological or geographic barriers. Good people living happy in faith, friendship, and sincere caring for one another are what will deliver us as both a nation and as inhabitants of a diverse world.

Maggie Peterson was 68 here! 46 years after she did 'Salty Dog Blues" on TAGS, (Mar. 18, 1963) on "The Darlings Are Coming" episode. She celebrated her 76th birthday this past Jan. 10 (2017).

Just can't believe that the lovely Maggie is gone from us. I was just a kid when I watched her on the Andy Griffith Show, and I fell instantly for her. I've been married to one woman since I was 20 years old ... that was 54 years ago! ... and I'm sure glad Maggie pushed me over that edge to a country gal!
