    Both sound good and yes the D20 has a more classic crunch sound where the G20 has a modern crunch sound.

    Hi, nicely done comparison! Maybe tweaking the G20 tone knobs a bit may have gotten it closer to the D20 crunch sound? The D20 crunch was more to my liking.

  • @PAHVID
    @PAHVID 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice comparison! I was trying to decide between these two a couple of months ago and if I’d seen this it probably would have pushed me towards the D20. I ended up going with the G20 just to have the built in higher gain sounds if I ever wanted them. I mostly play the G20 in this crunch territory or with pedals into the clean channel and I haven’t regretted the purchase at all. Such a great sounding amp! Definitely a bit tighter gain sound than the D20 but pretty subtle.

    I definitely preferred the G20 in this video. I usually prefer more relaxed mids, and that was the difference to my ears here. Thanks for putting these G20/D20 videos together.

  • @sebastianhusche298

    Cool comparison that made me feel very good about my decision for the G20. I like the G20 crunch more than the D20. Its has more energy and drive. The D20 seems to have a bit more low end rumbling which makes it harder to place in the mix. The high gain race clearly goes to the G20 too. But for cleans and edge of breakup sounds the D20 is definitely the winner to me.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Boys Are Back In Town, I was doing the accompaniment in my head, playing the other parts along with you! I concur with your assessment. The G20 does sound more modern, the D20 feels more old school. They're both great!

    • @BitsOfEternity

      The D20 sounds great, but I get goosebumps when the G20 growls. I have amplified speakers and a subwoofer on my computer speaker setup, and it sounds awesome. I had debated between the two amps - and I've commented on a few of your videos (and in the Revv chat) and I had been debating whether to get a Katana Artist to pair with my Mk II 1x12 100w Katana, but this sounds so good, without a single pedal, I don't think I'll be able to resist the pull of the G20

    I think it would have been helpful if you would've done the comparison using a wider range of gain settings on the G2. You had it fixed at 9 o'clock and didn't try anything lower or higher. It would also have been helpful to vary the tone settings a little bit so we could have heard the variety of crunch tones that might be available

    Hi Shawn . I would like to thank you for such an informative video. I have a question ? . I have live 6 helix and I heard that the Revv amps are great for taking pedals . Do you think the G20 is better choice with the helix ? Since it’s cleaner and tighter than the G20 ? However I play blues and classic rock but I like the tight sound

    On neck pickup the tone is super similar, and on bridge it's indeed tighter/more clear with the g20 and nice vintage crunchy on the d20! I love both, but for versatility g20 would be my pick. I picked the g20 to put against my ac30.. I hope this will be the golden combo :D

    This sounds great! Leaning towards the D20 myself. How would that kind of sound with the D20 work with a drive pedal in front? I would typically use a sound like that as my clean sound (riding the volume control) and smacking it with a drive pedal for leads.

    • @brentbeaudry
      @brentbeaudry 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is exactly what I do. I love the sound I get out of it, and stacking a drive in front of the pull boost or the G2 Revv pedal gives you a ton of versatility. I use an Earthquaker Devices Plumes and G2 in front of my D20, and I get everything from clean all the way to flirting with higher gain with that configuration.

  • @RedRose4711
    @RedRose4711 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    To me that type of crunch sounds heavier then a massively gained up amp, especially with a Les Paul. Great tone/playing Shawn.

      I know what you mean. The way an amp is voiced makes a difference.

  • @emreemre369

    Is there a chance the G 7-40 could cover all this in one amp? Effectively a 3 channel amp and I liked what I heard from it. I can forego the two notes stuff. Cheers! love your demos and playing.

    • @RevvAmps
      @RevvAmps  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't need the Two notes tech & you're fine with the higher wattage, a 7-40 will get you in the territory of both for sure, especially because it uses the same power tubes. The clean channel will be different - but you do get the bonus of accessing 7-40's green crunch channel which is a very unique & fun to play sound. Worth a shot! :)

  • @fuzzysurf1083
    @fuzzysurf1083 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I definitely hear a difference between the amps on the bridge pickup. To my ears, they don't sound too much different on the neck pickup. I hear the "beefiness" in the G20 but I lean toward the D20. Maybe that's because I'm mainly a bedroom player and don't really see myself needing all that girth. That said, I think they're both killer amps.

    Hey Shawn. The good old days of Thin Lizzy - great classic rock tune. Man does the tune take me back. If I had the money, I would use the D20 for crunch and the G20 for solos, you know for that Lukather higher gain sound. Nonetheless, Shawn your playing always so killer. By the way, what amp/pedals did you use on your Demolition tune? Now that is a killer guitar tone..
    Cheers and take care Shawn.

    • @ShawnTubbs
