Great and honest review again. I'm looking forward to the new Triumph Tiger Sport 660 and how it will stand up and compare in this class of middle weight sport touring bikes!
I purchased my 2022 tracer based on this review, first bike in 20 years and I'm absolutely loving it. Even got the same colour.. Thanks NothingToProve 👍
Thanks for this (as always) honest review, Scott 👍. As I miss my old CBF600 in a modern version (currently riding a 650R), there's no middle class Sports Tourer in the market that really convinces me (all lack some features, and/or make a cheap impression to me). Looking forward to see the Tiger 660 in 2022!
Good review. About the windscreen, I think the buffeting is mostly wind coming up from lower down, about knee-high. Due to the lack of faring there. About the jerky throttle, could be a loose chain or an ECU issue.
This is the one Yamaha still not sold in the US market and I’ve been asking Yamaha North America for years to bring it here, especially after the update. It may have no true competitor, but it’s following the trend began by the Versys 650 over a decade ago. The NC750X is the probably the closest competitor for now, but the upcoming Tiger Sport 660 will be a direct competitor.
Great review as usual, Scott! Excellent comparison chart. Regarding the bike, interesting option, Yamaha achieved a well proportioned machine at least aestethicaly. Sadly not many sport tourings available here in Mexico (inlcuding this one of course), that´s a shame.
I love this guys reviews. Nice, but honest in the important areas. I picked up an older Monster 1100 Evo, where his review put it over the edge vs another 821/1200.
The 2011 Monster 1100 evo is still today my favorite Ducati to ride. Air cooled (the last big Monster before they went liquid cooled and got heavier, so very light for the engine size) and all the electronics that we have today, albeit the first gen, still advanced electronics for the time. This was when Ducati's were still simple and we normal humans could work on them and not have to pay an expensive mechanic to do the maintenance. It is a "riders" bike, period. Not many Ducatis are made to be ridden, this one IS! Enjoy it, take care of it and it will give you miles and miles of smiles 😁👌👍 take care, Scott
Have it from 2020, did over 15K km and this is day to day machine, does its job perfectly, I love playing with it, almost like on bicycle as it goes to maneuvring. Perfect for city riding. Fuel consumption - 3.8 l per 100km, absolutely no complaints, ride smooth, not idela for longer trips on highways and definitely, you will change the windscreen, it SUCKS. Also seat can be more comfy, thinking about changing it. And as you get better driver, you start to think about more powerful engine, meaning you would want to upgrade the bike :) But at the same time you dont want because its lovely thing. BTW - Michelin tires - wow, after 15K I think it s still like new, they last and last.
I love it wish they would make an 850 twin version with the electronics package the tracer 9 gt has. That would be a great stepping stone between the two. I love the tracer 9 gt but it is seriously fast, I might get a new one next year but not getting rid of the 7 lol
Great review and comparison chart is very useful. Looking at 2022 GT model which fixes the windscreen issue. Also I don't push it so the brakes will be fine for me I'm sure. Worth noting that for 2022, brakes are Yamaha branded so maybe they tweaked them as you suggested!
I bought the exact same bike A2 license is plenty strong 175 km/h indicated top speed and most of the torque accelerates the bike beautifully! They cut off fueling at around 7,500 rpm which is plenty for all road applications in my book 😎
Thank you! Greetings from Germany! See if you can go and sit on one cause I'm a bit shorter than you and it was kind of cramped for me. The Tracer9 fit me better. Ride safe, Scott
Strange this bike isn't available in Canada. Everyone loves the CP2 motor and sounds amazing with an exhaust. I talked to a guy that has a tenere 700 today also with a CP2 and exhaust, sounds great.
I see many people saying the new Tiger 660 Sport will be a competitor to the Tracer 7. I think it is a given that it will be miles better. For me the question is how it compares to the BMW 900XR. Hope you can test one soon!
Hi Scott, i am looking for a motorcycle that is not to heavy and with decent handling. 2 up most of the time. Doesn’t need lots of power. I was looking for a tracer 7 gt or v strom 650. Maybe the new tiger 660 sport or the nc750x. Which one would you recommend. I am coming from a super sport 1000cc. Learned the hard way that I don’t need that much power on the road. Especially for 2 up and the speed limits in the Netherlands looking for a good motorcycle.. budget would be around 10k. thanks
As always, pure joy to hear you explain and guide us riders through your reviews. My heart is saying Tracer 7, my mind is saying NC750x just because it has a bit more features (Traction control and ride by wire - 4 riding modes mainly), and it's a tad bit cheaper. Being 163cm (without riding boots) I also prefer the 800mm seat of the Honda, but jeez that Tracer gets my heart racing! What do you think?
@@keithd87 yep. Got me a nice nc750x 2021. Hey, I'm thinking about buying one of these but the tight leg room might be a problem for long trips. For someone of your height isn't it uncomfortable to travel with this one ? thanks
It’s part of why I bought a tracer 9 after my first tracer 7. My knees were fine on the 7 but the 9 especially with the cruise control etc is a better touring bike for me. Hi. Let me ask what do you think about the dynamics compering with the NC 750 x (2021) which you tested a few weeks ago? I shortly tested both, and did not feel a huge difference until 100km/h. Yamaha seems a bit more agile. Both has the same price (Honda with dct). But Honda gives you more for your money. Which do you pick?

I am 180cm and found the Tracer 7 more comfy also. NC felt cramped. But NC was all the power I'd need.
I would take Yamaha over Honda in terms of the look, but choosing Honda, we have dct with traction control and storage under the tank for the same price. NO for Yamaha for me. NO traction control for that price is not acceptable
€116 for a Puig screen, but we shouldn't have to buy one. Steel braided lines? Depends on your riding. All the bike comparisons depend upon what you think is most important. Would you buy one? No. Would I? Yes, maybe, the price is right, the spec is right and I'm not impressed with the alternatives.
It's a Nice looking bike with good specs and price. 😄 Only spec I do not like is the maximum added weight for passengers an luggage. Which is the lowest of all middle class allroads. Thats a problem for long rides(multiple days) with 2 Persons and luggage. 😶
@@HardcoreWeeaboo i also prefer NC750x(2021) because they have the same price (with dct) and Honda gives more for your money (slippery clutch, driving modes, dct, lower fuel consumption, luggage comportament etc.) I found the same agility until 100-110 if you accelerate 0 to 100 km/h. I think the max.speed is higher for Yamaha.
Well, this is the second gen and still nothing in the States...so probably not. Yamaha does not think that they can sell and make a profit in North America, which is probably true, the T9 does well, so they figure that the T7 will take sales away from the T9 and they don't want to compete against them selves 🙁
All that money spent and the windscreen is just for show? It's not even good looking, let alone functional. What gives? I just wish BMW could have found a way to put adjustable front forks on this baby, it has just about everything else! Cheers Scott!
Well, when I lived in the States for the first 40 years of my life I didn't know why OEMs did this either but now after living in Europe for the last 10 years, I've learned that smaller bikes or anything "smaller" does not sell well in the States. Americans have a reputation or attitude for "go big or go home" mentality and small capacity bikes and cars just don't sell well in the States. But I still do have this mentality too, BUT my last bike I bought (2 yrs ago) the BMW 900 XR, going from a KTM1290 Super Duke R, so I'm starting to change too or it could be that I'm over 50 now and power is no longer #1 on my list. take care, Scott
Good engineering, but on the cheap, uninspiring on looks. That tail does not look in place. No upside down forks. The kawa 650 looks amazingly more bike, in looks, paint, and components, in comparison.
Yea, so am I. Been trying to ride it for the last two summers! Something always happens to prevent me from getting my hands on the bike. The bike is "crashed" or sold or never comes in, logistics, sigh, oh well. 😢
You could place it in the F750GS range of BMW, both being a twin engine in the mid range of their sports tourer bikes. But the BMW would win in all segments. I wonder how you see that “competition”.
@@stevecoaster2360 some brands are more expensive. But also get more, features that are real desirable when touring. Ok, the weight I agree, it’s much less on the Tracer7, but it’s also a small bike with the cons of less space, less suited for 2up, short wheelbase. In my opinion the Tracer 7 is the perfect starter on a budget commuter 1up bike that needs to carry some stuff in the panniers. But in case of a more experienced, more budget and longer distance touring and upgrade it really falls short.

I just wish BMW could have found a way to put adjustable front forks on this baby, it has just about everything else! Cheers Scott!
Buyer should go for versys or tracer 7 ?
V strom 650
@@alexadrossotoglou1413 vstorm front tire 19 ince. Hard to choose tire for on and off road. For road version should give 17 in

And still not in the US, 😢
Maybe it’s because the tracer 7 is made in France by Yamaha/MBK France and not in Japan.
Another good review. Thanks. Wish this bike was available in USA.
why can't we have tracer 7 in the states. makes me so angry.
But I still do have this mentality too, BUT my last bike I bought (2 yrs ago) the BMW 900 XR, going from a KTM1290 Super Duke R, so I'm starting to change too or it could be that I'm over 50 now and power is no longer #1 on my list.
take care,
Scott
Good engineering, but on the cheap, uninspiring on looks. That tail does not look in place. No upside down forks. The kawa 650 looks amazingly more bike, in looks, paint, and components, in comparison.
Waiting for a ninja 1000sx review
Yea, so am I. Been trying to ride it for the last two summers! Something always happens to prevent me from getting my hands on the bike. The bike is "crashed" or sold or never comes in, logistics, sigh, oh well. 😢
@@NothingToProve Will wait for your review anyway.
@@NothingToProve looks like we have a new contender. Suzuki gsx s1000gt against the Ninja 1000sx

You could place it in the F750GS range of BMW, both being a twin engine in the mid range of their sports tourer bikes. But the BMW would win in all segments. I wonder how you see that “competition”.
Except a big one. Reliabilty. You'd have to have somebody with a Yamaha tow you to the closest BMW dealer.
@@ernieschatz3783 if that would happen, the service is actually a pick up😉
F750 - 30kg heavier & 2,400 euro more for top spec model. It doesn't win there
@@stevecoaster2360 some brands are more expensive.
@@stevecoaster2360 it's £8200 tracer vs £8600 f750gs in the UK and the 750 is 850cc and has rider modes and traction control. It is 224kg though that's not great.
Scott did you fart at 11:05 ?
Hahahahahahahaha. I think I hear it, too. 😃 Made me laugh so much. Thanks to both of you. 😃
He actually pushes it out you can hear the flatulance in his tonal inflection😅😂😊
Euuh you don’t sound German at all 😮
Versys 650,vstrom 650,tiger 800 ,nc750x are rivals and in my opinion better all around bikes..
Do you not realise the triumph tiger 660 exists. This is no comparison the tiger is far superior.
Umm...do you not realize the year that this video was made? LOL! It's ok, easy mistake to make. When I did this video, that bike did not exist as of yet.
take care,
Scott
