      For suuuure. Nowadays, podcast is the format I consume the most. And I think she could alternate weekly, one episode with a guest, the other one by herself, maybe with a section to answer questions about the previous episode's topic. Idk, content creation is not my thing lol. But I recommend watching the Made it out Podcast by Mal Glowenke, I really like the structure of her pod.

    Mak is right. A rural town in the middle of the US is much worse than where she was at in a medium sized town near larger cities. When I was in northern MN it was hours to any larger city that would have queer spaces and out queer people. And MN is even a solidly blue state. I would imagine it’s the same in Wyoming. It’s probably not somewhere you’d want to stay long term if you can afford to leave.

    Week 2 of petitioning to get Lucas as a guest on the pod.
    Also, if you want to affirm your queerness in a way that isn't just over the internet (although I believe that that isn't necessarily bad, it's actually one of the best uses for parasocial relationships because it makes you feel less alone even when there is no irl community available), you can also do some things that aren't social at all and are just for yourself. Wear something that feels queer, experiment with makeup, learn about your local queer history (although that one comes with a big warning because unfortunately, happy endings are a rare occurrence), get a haircut, find queer media you enjoy and feel represented by, do the activities on your own. Maybe you have heard that rock climbing is a gay activity and now you go do it and take delight in the thought that you fulfill a cliché. Maybe you do a weekly gay movie night or maybe one whenever you feel like you need it and you don't have to invite anyone else initially. Take up space in non queer contexts if you feel comfortable being out there. Suggest a gay book for your book club; have the conversations that will make you find your people or even realise you already have them; don't be afraid to be the gay one for a while. Truly, being out as queer or even just as the one who speaks about queer topics positively might already attract your people. You don't need to be afraid of the internet, but you also absolutely can find people off of it. You got this.

    Conspiracy theory psychology is actually REALLY interesting. Related to what Alayna said, there's this weird feeling of cognitive dissonance, and in the conspiracy theories help them explain why without having to examine why they feel that cognitive dissonance.

    I would love seeing guests on the new podcast that are from other therapy / advice / relationship podcasts once in a while honestly? I think getting people who also studied the same topics would create such an interesting conversation and also perspective between two people. But I definitely agree that having guests weekly would be draining and take so much out of you! Once a month / biweekly sounds a bit better and less exhausting. Although once a month sounds nice, a special guest that you can bounce ideas from and all sorts of cool things, especially for those who want to learn more about these topics.

    • @megancurtis9502

      Yeah it’s a ton of work to have a podcast that aims to be educational like that. You have to be really well researched yourself in addition to having experts. It sounds like it would occasionally be one of the videos on her channel so I’m not sure if it would even be weekly with or without guests

For guests, I'd reach out to friends, and people you've already done collabs with in the past if you already have a connection and established chemistry with them. If they're too flat-strap for the foreseeable future, they could put you in touch with someone they know, perhaps someone you might already be 'soft mutuals' with but would like to get to know better. You could also reach out to LGBTQ Psychology Canada.

    FYI- Clonopin is EXTREMELY addictive. I'd been prescribed a low dosage for a couple yrs & I became physically dependent & just had the most excruciating time getting off them. So, please weigh the options when considering meds. If I'd known that beforehand, I would've never started taking them. They also prevent you from learning how to tackle the anxiety yourself. But, I do know they are needed in certain circumstances.

    • @Grounded_Gravity
      @Grounded_Gravity 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      For real. I watched Clonopin give my ex memory issues, cognitive impairment, and delusions when she got hooked on it as a way of getting off of kratom (also everyone stay the fuck away from kratom too fr). She was always so cavalier about benzos but tbh by the time she got off of them she had almost completely ruined her life. And the whole thing did contribute to our breakup. I learned from that experience that Benzos shouldn't be taken regularly, otherwise they start to cause cognitive impairment after just a few weeks in addition to being super addictive. Way to get off of the Clonopin, I'm sure it took a LOT of work to accomplish that!

    • @theembersinside1420
      @theembersinside1420 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Grounded_Gravity Thank you! Yes, it was unbelievably hard. It took me many different tries to finally beat it. And yes, the key is to not take them regularly & take it seriously. I'm sorry u had that experience w your ex & I feel bad she had such a rough time too. Its not just illegal stuff that gets u in trouble, thats for sure. I just don't like people being cavalier about it, like u had mentioned. I wanted to speak up in case someone watching this was curious about taking it. Meds are not always the answer or the best course of action in many cases.

    Bring a sister on for each episode that Ashley can't do. We all know Maks sister has good pod chemistry and everyone is dying to see what Alaynas sister looks like.... and bringing her on when Ashley is out would make the next Ashley episode super funny while she razzes you 2 about it. Just an idea.

    No one caught Ashley's "the government is making the frogs gay" when talking about men & conspiracy theories, but it caught me so off guard and it made me laugh and then i choked LMAO

    Good luck and have fun in Europe @ashgavs
    Be sure to take some extra time to visit Amsterdam and Copenhagen while you are there, the level of acceptance and socialism is a real experience.

    I am going to Scotland for my honeymoon at the end of May. I am so sad I am missing Ashley's tour! I'm on the text list, but not for Scotland 😂
    On another note, does anyone else wish they could see Alayna's cinnamon challenge? I know it's from a previous era, but I am just so curious!

    Alayna, thought, what about instead of a podcast you stream, then you can make "segments" from stream. You can have folks on, chat can ask you questions, and what not. You can stream at a time/ date that works for you. I would love to hang in an Alayna stream

    It's not a specifically queer group (though we do have a lot of regulars who happen to be queer), but I've been an organizer for a writing group for three years now and on top of Ashley's point of consistency is key and people will start showing up eventually, I want to add that you also need to be ready for attendance to fluctuate. Every December we go from 10+ people down to around 3, then in January we'll get a spike to the point where we have to spread out to other tables and then it levels back out to 10+ by February. It's normal, it doesn't mean the group is over. It just means you're in a lull and it'll pick up again soon. I also have shifts in who's showing up. I'll have people who will attend every single week for months and then life will just get in the way and they'll stop coming for a while. That's also normal. Some people eventually come back, others don't, but there's always new people showing up. But yeah, consistency is key. I've honestly found that if I have it at the same place on the same day and time at regular intervals people just know we're going to be there and feel more comfortable showing up when they can. It's been a lot more rewarding than I (a highly anxious, agoraphobic) ever thought it would be and have had numerous people tell me how much it means to them that we're here when they need community, and we're just sitting around a table writing in the same space together. If you have even a little bit of an interest in organizing a group for something that you feel is lacking in your life, absolutely do it.

    hey gang love tuning into the pod every week!
    I hate to be that guy but better-help is a company with some questionable practices, especially for a pod that discusses therapy-adjacent content

    Alayna, I don’t know for sure but I think you’d like Spiritually Sassy show (spirituality, psychology and queer sass coming together) and he started just talking about certain subjects before scheduling in guests, so I guess would be useful to check it out?
