Berlin as an international city has some awesome third wave coffee places, outside of these shops however, the situation in Germany is bleak. Owners of 5000€+ coffee gear will typically will - without any shame - brag about how thrifty they are when it comes to buying beans. Someone on the other hand who ejoys hand filtered single origin specialty coffee is ridiculed.
