This option has both up and downsides for the public and the Police service. What is missing most in all policing services is the 'public first' ethos which no longer appears to be a key element of how police consider (deliver) their service.

What are you talking about? `Knife bins` are not a "good idea" they are idiotic and condone the criminal possession of offensive weapons in a public place. Spreading awareness about harm caused by knives etc doesnt do anything but promote the further illegal use of knives. If rapping or singing about not using knives was an effective means of prevention then public knife possession would have ended decades ago. As for the dogs that were shot, have you seen how many people have been killed by dogs recently? It is up to the judgement of the police on the front line who are at risk as to whether it is necessary to shoot a dog and It would be in the public interest if they killed a lot more of them.

Direct entry for detectives explains a lot of the poor interactions with plain clothes coppers. Uniformed coppers barely know the law, but these will have absolutely no practical experience of applying everyday laws.
Direct entry DCs are still required to get policing and investigation qualifications. My friend has a law degree and he went through the program, and he said the degree helped him massively - so it’s not all the plain clothed.
Fast track entry, straight in to detective constable because they have a few degrees and education, coppers with years of street wise knowledge and experience dont get there because someone well educated jumps in, that is not prepared to work their way up. Detectives are not higher rank or better paid. Having known some, their work is mostly office based. This is not what many 'street cops' like about the jobs (e.g. fast cars and chases). The reason the government brought in direct entry was because they couldn't fill the detective roles for the fact that nobody within the police wanted to do them.

If someone within the large organisation you work for has committed an error, someone you don't know, have never met etc., would yo comment on camera without knowing the facts of the matter? I suspect not! Why should a "constable" comment on a subject they know nothing about? Holding the police to account has to be done sensibly and correctly, not by random comments on random events. Oh,... and the next time some pratt tells you that police cars exit electroniuc gates "very quickly on blues and twos" just remind them that the gates open very slowly as they do for all other vehicles and if a driver cannot discern a pedestrian in his path and avoid a collision he should not be driving on public roads, even if he is a police constable.

Each constable should be equipped with a set of rules to follow and a set of ethics that are conducive to good policing. You know the sort of thing. Believing that criminals belong in prison. No one is above the law. Cruelty is absolutely a no-no. Sworn constables must act at all times with dignity and fairness. The usual stuff. But when, and it is often, a copper steps out of line and sometimes even goes as far as committing the ultimate crimes, none of them has an opinion. That's wrong. I am always quick to criticise the police when they deserve it, but on this occasion I missed the part in the video where there was any evidence that the DC was corrupt? The police have even fast tracked Inspector grades in the past (not sure if they still do), and it’s not the woman’s fault that she went straight in as a DC, but I’m reality she will likely spend her days carrying out mundane tasks such as trawling through hours of CCTV, paperwork and door knocking.
